  1. Hiob, Thanks! I tried that and nothing changed, except it got me to thinking. I went back into the Saved Games/.../Config/autoexec.cfg file and made / unmade a change. I changed this line: options.graphics.maxfps = 60 (I had edited this line to limit FPS to 60 before when using my old monitor) to options.graphics.maxfps = 180 Now I get as high as the low 70's FPS in the cockpit view bouncing down into the 60's to high 50's. It approaches 100 FPS when viewing only the sky. I am still not clear why it was maxing out at 50 FPS with the previous setting, but clearly DCS has an interaction. I will goof around with this some more. Caldera
  2. Hey all, A few notes: I have limited DCS frame rates to 60 FPS almost from day one playing the game. The NVidia card is set up to allow DCS complete control of parameters. The FPS numbers come from DCS. I have recently upgraded my monitor. The old one is a 27 inch 2560x1440 HD and the new one is a 32 inch 3440x1440 curved UWHD. The new one is capable of 144Hz and 4ms. It is running in display port mode. I have a second monitor, it is a 12inch 1920x1080p and runs in HDMI. I use this monitor for the MFCD's (A-10C). With my old monitor set up I would max out at 60 FPS bouncing down to the 50 FPS occasionally in the cockpit view. So some weird stuff when I first hooked up the new monitor that I do not understand. First time In DCS with no changes to anything else, it was max'd at 30 FPS. Turning everything to low or off it was still at 30 FPS. Cockpit view or clear sky view it was max'd at 30 FPS. I changed the refresh rate of the monitor from 60Hz to 144Hz. Cockpit view was then max'd at 40 FPS bouncing down to 30 FPS occasionally in the cockpit view. It was max'd at 40 FPS. I turned on G-Sync. Now It was max'd at 50Hz bouncing down to the 40 FPS occasionally in the cockpit view. From there I started turning stuff up in the SYSTEM tab. I have now gotten to the level that you can see below. I am still tweaking. The max frame rate is still 50 FPS. Nothing so far has degraded the FPS performance. The monitor is amazing and I love it. It is max'd at 50 FPS. Why 50 FPS? DCS SYSTEM: Task Manager with no DCS: Task Manager in DCS on runway hot Caucasus: My PC specs are in my signature. Video card is in the low to middle range of performance. I would be looking to upgrade my video card, but with COVID-19 still lingering the scalpers are operating at full strength. But it still has some capacity left, typically running at 70-80%. I would like to improve my FPS however. CPU is in the middle range of performance and not overclocked. It looks to be just fine if not over kill for DCS. The utilization spikes occasionally go to almost 20%, otherwise 12-14% is the normal. Memory Usage is also at about 80%. I am not sure what "Heavy Missions" actually means, but so far so good. I may want to upgrade to 32GB in the future. Comments or suggestions? Thanks in advance, Caldera
  3. Hey All, I was wondering if this happens to anyone else? Maybe it is my set up? I have my throttle(s) set up so that I have an idle detent. So that means that both engines go to idle at the detent and then the throttle handle can still move farther aft. There is about an inch of movement in the throw of the throttles between the detent and full stroke rearward. This part of the axis is tuned to be at zero output. If I start a mission hot on the runway. Then both engines will spool up to 65% every single time. This is with the throttles past the detent. As soon as I advance the throttle to the detent and just a hair more then both engines immediately go to idle. At any other time pulling the throttles to or past the detent they always go to idle. I have checked my throttle output before I have started missions and it is at zero. So something else is going on? This is my set up under MISC: Caldera
  4. Typically, I seem to find myself sniping with the mavericks mostly at AAA or SAM's and using other weapons for groups etc... That is the wrong use for space stabilization for sure and that is more than likely my issue. I just need more practice. Caldera
  5. Hey All, A question for the more experience pilots. I am trying to figure out when best to use this feature. The view in the MAV window is not really clear enough really to accurately distinguish targets at any sort of range. If the targets are not in the open I just as often I hit a tree or a building or a whatever. With that in mind, moving in close enough to be of greater accuracy it kind of the removes a huge advantage of using the maverick in the first place, which is stand off. I might as well do a guns attack. Or in other words, sniping from a safe range or stabbing with a dagger. How would you pick the circumstance to effectively use this feature? Why not just use the TGP, slave the maverick, and be incredibly accurate at maximum range or at just about any range? Thanks in advance, Caldera

  8. Dragan, Thanks for the advice. I will try that out. For my part I have come to the conclusion not to drop them near the upper end of their range. These days I try to drop them 2/3 to the center as my first pickle. I have way fewer misses when I do that. Dropping from the upper end they still miss even with the laser on. I believe that they just fall short. The CCRP calculation must be off. Caldera
  9. Zin, From what I can figure out and please let me know where I miss. Chuck's Guide page 138. The TF-34 has, of course, two rotors. The High Pressure (HP) Rotor drives the compressor. It has 14 compressor stages and 2 turbine stages, rotating some where near 17000 rpm at full power. It is attached to the outer shaft. The Low Pressure (LP) Rotor has 4 turbine stages and rotates about 7000 rpm at full power.. It is attached to the center shaft and drives the Fan through a reduction gear. Both rotors are free wheeling and the rpm of each is directly proportional to fuel burn rate. The compressor does produce super heated air. In my experience, it could be 800 to 900 F and 200 psia or more. The compressor itself may consume as much as 65% of the total horse power produced by the the HP turbine. I do not know if the the engine has Inlet Guide Vanes (IGV) or Variable Stator Vanes (VSV). Those would be present to increase compressor efficiency, but increase weight. With the fan out front, probably not? The combustor has 18 annular fuel nozzles (cans). Indicated - The rpm of the HP rotor is the core speed Indicated - The rpm of the LP rotor is the proportional to the Fan speed The rpm's are expressed as percentages of maximum rpm for the purpose of cross aircraft pilot simplicity? In this engine, the HP rotor essentially functions as a gas generator. The Interstage Turbine Temperature (ITT) is essentially the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) for the engine. That means the the 4 LP rotor turbine wheels are going to consume a vast majority of the energy contained the high velocity high temperature gas exhausting from the HP rotor. In doing so, converting that energy into driving the fan. In my opinion, the 4 turbine stages would be designed to be quite efficient. And that would be extremely relevant to the overall fuel economy. It is my guess, that the fan is producing the vast majority of thrust from this engine. As you say, at least 80%. Frederf, Thank you! My goal was to find the most efficient endurance. Basically, the Maximum Range on the charts above. Do you happen to have those numbers? Zin and I have had engine discussions before. Have you ever looked into or performed testing to determine the "simulated" engine thrust? I can only think of doing some kind of acceleration test. Caldera

Basically what I remember is: In air --> double the speed --> square the power required (airplane) In water --> double the speed --> cube the power required (submarine) That kind of what you are saying? Fuel Flow Rate = Engine Power If I get it right then, I should ignore the linear change in the throttle setting and pay attention to the fuel flow rate changes which are not linear? And...   12. Iralite, I am not willing to charge, but I will help you if I can. Attached is the lua file that I use. I have placed both the right and the left MFCDs on my second monitor. This file is placed: C:\Users\%name%\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\config\MonitorSetup\CENTER+MFDs.lua If you do not use Open Beta then place it in the DCS folder. DO THIS STEP FIRST. It is critical that you set the RESOLUTION first. If you don't you may end up with the OK button off screen unable to put it back to normal. Like I did the first time. The RESOLUTION setting is Width x Height. You can type in the values. My upper screen is 2560 x 1440 and my lower screen is 1920 x 1080 so for total resolution I use 2560 x 2520 (1440 + 1080 = 2520) Yours should be 2560 x 1440 and 1024 x 768 so your total resolution would be 2560 x 2208 (1440 + 768 = 2208) if you use my file and stack the screens as I have shown below. You will need to edit some variables in my lua file. I use notepad++. Basically, I have set up variables to make it simple. The variables look like this: -- All variables are in pixels local TOP = 60 -- Top Margin local mainW = 2560 -- Width of the center monitor local mainH = 1440 -- Height of the center monitor local MFD = 960 -- Size MFCD local OSet = -10 -- Offset bottom screen horizontal position Pos-Right Neg-Left You would mostly likely only need to edit local TOP = 60, local MFD = 960 and local OSet = -10. Change the 60 to a 10 Change the 960 to 748 To adjust the horizontal position of the MFCD's change the -10 Where a more negative number moves them left and a more positive number moves them right. You just have to experiment with it. Exit and restart DCS each time you need to make an edit. My DCS SYSTEM screen looks like this: It is critical that you set up your monitor locations in windows so that DCS knows where they are. This is how mine is set-up. The 2 monitor is my main screen (2560 x 1440) and the 1 monitor is the MFCD screen (1920 x 1080}. It is a little more complicated, but the mouse works correctly if I move it down the center of the upper screen to the lower screen. This is exactly how these monitors sit on my desk. Good Luck!   14. Hey All, I know that this has most likely been hashed out and beaten into many dead horse dog food bags. For that I apologize, the forum search function annoys me to no end. But... As per usual, I am missing something. I ran tests today trying to determine endurance. The altitude was 13800 and I used True Airspeed allowing speed stabilization before I recorded data. The fuel and fan gauges are analog so forgive a bit of in-accuracy. The results I got: Fan Fuel Speed 83 25.0 364 Maximum 80 22.0 348 75 17.0 314 70 13.7 287 65 11.5 263 60 9.0 228 55 NA NA I could not maintain level flight on autopilot as the AOA continued to increase The problem that I have is that if I compare aircraft speed to fan speed then the chart comes out pretty darn linear. And if I compare fuel flow rate and aircraft speed that comes out pretty darn linear. This is from Code7700.com/aero_range_performance OK.... So drag equals thrust if velocity (aircraft speed) stays constant. From the diagrams above, the drag is increasing faster than the velocity past the Minimum Drag point. From my testing, why would a linear change in fan speed (thrust) result in a linear change in speed? Does the efficiency of the fan increase with RPM? Does the A-10 only operate at or near the Maximum Range point? Caldera

  19. OK So more testing... Each drop is from the the exact same profile. The mission starts with the aircraft at 10000ft. I turn on the the autopilot and select a GBU-38, then I wait to drop. The range window is from 4.1 to 1.0 miles. I made one run at various ranges. Only one range drop actually shacked the target that at 1.1 range. The rest were just good misses. Often missing by about 25ft. If all the bombs were hitting in the same spot then the same vehicles would be killed each time. Target Range 1.1 SHACK! Range 1.8 Range 2.5 Very near miss! Range 3.3 Range 4.0 What the Heck! Caldera

  21. Hey all, Still missing the part about the "bank steer bar". This refers to the LSB? Obviously this is not cross track error as I think this through a bit more. That deals with the projected course line versus a fixed position, but still kind of sort of. Let me ask this then. If the LSB only responds to bank, not direction, then why do I see the LSB line up in the very center of the ADI as I cross the center line of the localizer at a 90 degree angle with wings level? Another question I have. In the mission builder on the Nellis map there is a diagram representing the localizer at the end of runway 21L. On the end of this diagram that is away from the runway it has the ILS frequency and another number that I had guessed was the heading of the localizer. That number at Nellis is 22. What or why is that? Caldera
  22. Hey, I have attached a short mission track of my weapons test range. The varied targets are space at 25 feet near the center and 50 feet farther out. The bombs I am testing are GBU-38's. The first pass I layed down mark points on each of the 6 tanks. The second pass I tried to release 6 bombs, but maybe only got 4 off the rails. I forget to check DSMS after this run. But you can see me stepping through the targets one at a time, trying to release one JDAM on each tank. Notice the dispersion of the craters for the initial bomb strikes in the TGP. There are two that missed completely. This is what I got: null The numbers in the vehicle names are distance from center. So TNK-75 is the third one out or 75 feet from center.   24. Hey Guys, I got it to work and I made a few landings in the fog. Still a bit baffling to me how the dang thing works. Maybe I am too used to the fish finder in my boat that uses cross track error. The LSB will not work correctly unless I set the course to 210. Why would any setting on an aircraft have any effect of the detected direction of Localizer signal? The ground TACAN is a radial transmission at 1 degree intervals correct? But the Localizer transmits to a fixed direction with left and right components. MMSP? Caldera
