Legion, Try max zoom and get closer for better gunnery. You can also turn on I-Pac for a second or two just prior to firing. However, I don't usually do that because it is a bit clunky for me. I end up fighting with the plane if I am not exactly lined up. I just pull all the way to fire position with the trigger once I am on target. Caldera

Dporter, Not useless, both mostly work. You just have to fly with no clouds. Which is just a bit underwhelming considering how beautiful the clouds really are. I have shown in some pictures that even with Light Clouds the textures are off. So it seems like a base game graphic issue to me. I am sure that ED is working on it, but probably it is much more complicated than just changing a few lines of code. How are the mirrors working with the clouds? I always have mine off. Caldera

missing info TGP Zoom Out and Other Weird Stuff
Caldera replied to Caldera's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Hey Guys, Quote: Another weirdness that I have seen. I have been getting NO SPI messages randomly (the white box bottom right corner). I am positive that I had a SPI just prior, but not true as the SPI evaporated and I get a NO SPI message. There is no SPI anywhere at the point and I have to create one again. This seems to be related to when I have the CDU in Mark, where the SPI and the TGP are sitting on the mark point. Then I switch to Flight Plan or maybe vice versa. I will keep looking into it. However, this is not specifically give a NO SPI message, but the message is similar and the SPI does not actually vanish. Caldera -
aircraft suddenly pitches up when crossing runway threshold
Caldera replied to prof_laser's topic in Bugs and Problems
This happened to me once. I had thought maybe it was wake turbulence at first, but the pitch up got to be extreme and made it impossible to land. Caldera -
Hey All, Back on the AGM-65L. This can be one annoying weapon to use. I have been practicing with it again and as you probably know it has an unusual quirk. The laser will automatically shut itself off. This makes it a terrible weapon for self lasing against stuff like short range SAMs or other things that can shoot back from distance. To make matters worse, when the laser shuts itself off to turn it back on there seems to be some kind of a cool down built in. The laser can not just be turned right back on and has period of time after it automatically shuts off until it can be manually turned back on. As far as this cool down goes, with the AGM-65L not selected this cool down does not exist. Turning the laser off then back on when the missile is well on its way to impact, but it still has this weird cool down where the laser can not be turned back on right away. Is there a timer somewhere that can be adjusted? This is a glitch that has simply been around a long time right? Nealius, I am having no problems being on target if I can keep the laser on. Catweedle, Not just MP. Caldera

missing info TGP Zoom Out and Other Weird Stuff
Caldera replied to Caldera's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Hey Guys, Quote: Another weirdness, so say I lay down a Mark Point and make it SPI and then slave the TGP to it. Clearly I can see that the Mark Point, the SPI, and the TGP diamond all stacked at the same position on the TAD. As soon as I try to slew the TGP it pops off. It moves to a position that is close enough that I can still see the TGP diamond on the TAD, but it is way off the Mark Point. I have to slew it back using the TAD as a reference. This process seems to go on for a while when it happens. Well... This one I figured out. It is a result of the SPI being placed on a Mark Point that is physically in some pretty rugged mountains. (EX: Caucasus) Yurgon, Quote: The spiraling TGP sounds familiar, when it reaches the Gimbal limits. However, it should not boresight itself. Do you have a track or a video of that? I do not have a track. It does appear to be about the same effect as reaching Gymbal limits when TGP reaches timeout and resets. But, it always occurs when I am zooming out and about maximum. Bam... Quote: When you have a steerpoint with no elevation data, it's not a valid SPI. So if you slew the TGP above the horizon or anything else reverts the SPI Generator to STPT, you'll get the NO SPI message. I do not recall actually slewing the TGP when it happens. It seems that I just get a "message" flashing on the HUD. I will pay attention to that. Typically, my SPI is locked to a Mark Point, if not to a waypoint in the mission plan. Occasionally, I use a TGP SPI. I do try to mark them all due to idiosyncrasies with TGP. That way, I can quickly pop back to my target if the TGP gets weird or gymbal faults.. How do you make a Mark Point that has no elevation data? How do you make a steerpoint that has no elevation data? I am definitely missing something here. Fred, I will try that. I am not sure of the mode that I am in when it happens. I normally select INR when I am rolling out and only select INR-P (on purpose --> sometimes I HOTAS fumble) if I am making an attack using the laser. The TGP will often automatically switch to INR-A. I will pay more attention to the mode that it happens in. Caldera -
Hey All, These things have happened to me enough to become noticeable and annoying. Sometimes if I zoom the TGP all the way out it will weird out into some kind of spiral and the automatically reset to bore sight. Typically when it does happen I am in Wide Mode, but it has happened in Narrow. This happens with no Gimbal Fault present as I would be staring at the TGP at the time it happens and of course notice that. Another weirdness that I have seen. I have been getting NO SPI messages randomly (the white box bottom right corner). I am positive that I had a SPI just prior, but not true as the SPI evaporated and I get a NO SPI message. There is no SPI anywhere at the point and I have to create one again. I had thought that the A-10C must always have a SPI and if none is created it would default to the steer point? Another weirdness, so say I lay down a Mark Point and make it SPI and then slave the TGP to it. Any of this sound familiar to anyone else? Caldera

A10C engine catches fire for no reason
Caldera replied to Seabiscuit1985's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Hey all, No fires but... The left engine seems to just shut off randomly. Master Warning --> L Gen --> L Oil Press --> Etc Etc Etc... This has happened, out of the blue, 3 or 4 times. The engine will not restart. Anyone else? Caldera -
Hey All, Version 2.7.3.8494 No changes from the previous version that I can notice Mostly Cloudy Light Scattered Clouds This picture below is perhaps the telling tale. It is in CCD mode with Light Scattered Clouds. Notice the shading of the ground vehicles where one is mostly is clear and dark while the others that are close by are washed out and faint. On just about any setting with more clouds the CCD mode is just about useless. Now, compare this CCD picture to other pictures that I have taken on Mostly Cloudy above. For example; this picture below in WHOT with Mostly Cloudy. Notice how the SA-6 is dark (bright white) and is well defined to the terrain, but the SA-13 just to the left of it is washed out and faint. This is true for both the CCD and the WHOT pictures. ED really has not responded other than BigNewy stating that he let the team know. Is this a glitch or is it working as intended? Caldera

Thanks guys, This It looks like you're zoomed too far in on the TGP That was my problem. I had the TGP zoomed in to max on Narrow. Caldera

Thanks, What about the 4th and 5th pictures where just the diamond appears and not FOV dotted lines. Caldera

Hey All, I am boggled a bit on this one... So with the HMD as SOI then DMS Right Long is to Slave TGP to HMD. But it gets weird... HMD SOI - Start of test range mission --> Use of DMS RL I get the TGP dotted box that I can slew. I can see the box move with the HMD as well as the the TGP. TGP SOI - Find and mark my target HMD SOI - Use of DMS RL Now I get just a diamond, the TGP is looking at MRK A and it is the SPI. I can not slew the diamond. HMD SOI - Use of DMS RL then use of TMS UL This will put another diamond down and it becomes the SPI. From this point on anytime I try to move the TGP with the HMD by using DMS RL it will just put down another diamond and make it SPI. If I make the TGP SOI and slew it I can see the TGP image changing but the HMD does not reflect this and I have no idea where the TGP is actually looking. One of the main utilities of the HMD just went down the toilet with some other stuff... My question: How do I get back to the mode where I just get the slewable dotted diamond box as in the first picture? Caldera

Thanks Guys I got it! This - You have to use the STATUS button under the Preset Selector Switch and the programmed channel freq will show for a few seconds. If you cycle the Preset Selector switch after pushing STATUS you can see all the frequencies per channel in that allotted time. And This I'd also add that while you're figuring out presets and other functions, it's a good idea to be in a multiplayer server and have SRS running with an overlay. That way you can get immediate feedback as to what you're doing, such as what frequency you're on, whether you're listening to guard, etc. Caldera

Hey All. Well... I am stuck and I need advice. I am trying to figure out how to set the UHF (AN/ARC-164) presets. I am sorry but I can not find a tutorial. Any referral to a tutorial? The Manual (page 430) LOAD PRESET Cover Lifting this cover reveals an orange button labeled LOAD To load a frequency to a preset channel, you simply 1. Dial in the frequency manually 2. Select the preset channel you wish to assign the frequency to 3. Press the LOAD button. The Problem Simply, it don't work. I am missing something no doubt. Questions: What position should the UHF Radio Frequency Mode Selector Switch be in to load a frequency? What position should the UHF Radio Frequency Mode Selector Switch be in to use a preset frequency? After loading a frequency should the UHF Radio Preset Channel Selector Switch actually do anything? What position should the UHF Radio Function Selector Switch be in? Is the UHF Radio Manual Frequency Dials (Indicator) supposed to change? I do notice that with the UHF Radio Preset Channel Selector Switch in the Preset position, the UHF indicator on the front dash changes. Instead of the displaying the UHF frequency it displays the preset channel. But, the UHF Radio Manual Frequency Dials never change to indicate the preset frequency. Is this the only indication that I get? Caldera

TGP FLIR broken since yesterday's beta patch?
Caldera replied to Migo's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Hey All, I noticed that blown up vehicles, bomb craters and bullet strikes on the ground still have pretty close to their original contrast. I was playing on Marianas yesterday near Tinian Int Airport at the older airstrip. There is allot of tress in that area shading overgrown runways. Using WHot, the live vehicles had some but very little contrast to the trees and were difficult to find. But... The dead vehicles were bright white and I could spot them with ease. Caldera -
Hey all, It clearly has to do with the clouds. This sequence is from Light Clouds 1. Caldera

BigNewy, As you suggested I removed Mods. Then I deleted FXO and then did a slow (long) repair. These pictures are after. Caucasus near Batumi Ver 2.7.3.8494 Clouds BHOT WHOT CCD If you are not aware the MAV MFCD is just as hosed. LOOK HERE Caldera

TGP FLIR broken since yesterday's beta patch?
Caldera replied to Migo's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Faelwolf, I think I had that bug forever. Are you talking about the one that if you periodically deleted the FXO folder it got fixed for a time? My TGP would simply grey out or black out. If it is that problem, then if went away suddenly when I changed a ref. That is until 2.7.2.8165 ref. All, As of today using ref 2.7.3.8494 nothing has changed for me. I tried deleting FXO and setting chimney smoke to zero. There was no change. The TGP is just about useless at all times, especially on the new Marianas map. I could not really distinguish any thing on one of the islands except what might have been trees. Tonight, In my squadron I am the only one to have this problem. The A-10 game is busted... Has ED been made aware of this issue? Caldera -
TGP FLIR broken since yesterday's beta patch?
Caldera replied to Migo's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
OK... WHOT TGP This is a SA-6 or SA-13??? A T-55 is directly behind at fairly close range. BHOT TGP MAV BHOT closer MAV closer Missile should be long gone. And I should be pulling off target. Pick out any of the 15 or so T90's, T55's, two tracked SAMS plus a AAA gun. Caldera -

TGP FLIR broken since yesterday's beta patch?
Caldera replied to Migo's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
I have this problem only since 2.7.2.8165 version. The TGP is more blurry with not much to any at all FLIR definition. It seemed much worse on the Caucasus map than on the Persian Gulf map. The Caucasus map was set for broken clouds. On the Caucasus, when I first noticed an issue, a column of T-90's blended in on WHOT and BHOT. CCD was just about useless. I tried adjusting the BHOT gain and video parameters until I got good definition with the background to the T-90's. I noticed at the same time that a column of T-55's just behind the T-90's were still camouflaged to a great degree. Then with the same TGP video settings I switched to CCD and WHOT. Both CCD and WHOT were completely useless. The best I have gotten so far is simply turning up the gain to at least 6. The images are still crappy. This a bug or working as intended? Caldera -

Caldera replied to AvroLanc's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Frederf, Best I can recall, it is called Gyroscopic Force of Translation. For the INS gyro that I had experience with there was actually two gyros. One on the vertical and one on the horizontal axis. The gyros never really changed plane nor axis and neither did the gymbal within the housing, at least by very much. The gymbal had a very limited range of movement. The relative movement/position between the housing and the gymbal is what was detected. What happened is that as the gyros attempted to progress forces were applied to the gymbal to correct this movement/position. This did two things. First it re-algned the gymbal with in the housing. Second, the overall (would be) progression was basically a totalized sum of all these forces required to hold the gyros in that position. So the calculated physical position was derived from a calculated value based on the totalized sums of all the forces required to hold the gyros essentially stable from a designated alignment location. This was a Naval application, so occasionally that actual position was corrected (via GPS) as there was some error in the process. The curvature of the Earth and the ships low velocity allowed this type of application. Sometimes I think about the massive gyro that we would call a jet engine. I would wonder how the damn aircraft is able to maneuver like they do. Caldera -
Taz, Did you happen to notice which one missed? I how found that pickling at max range almost always results in a miss. Caldera
