  1. Nealius, I agree and I do use that mod. It helps a little, but it's still is not as visible as the real ship. Thanks for pointing that out though. I had forgotten to.
  2. So this is been something that has been bothering me since the carrier came out. It's not specific to the super carrier, it happens on the forrestal as well. But the landing area is just too blended into the rest of the deck with regard to the paint. It's pretty much impossible to pick out the ladder lines and centerline until you're in close. And from what I can tell it's not a matter of gamma, because gamma just makes everything brighter and then washes out the landing area in the brightness. I thought it was just me until I watched Nasty try his approaches to the super carrier in the following video. My recommendation is that the deck needs to be repainted so as to not make it so washed out. Nasty's debrief is at 18:40. All that said, I do always want to say thank you guys for a wonderful simulator and even more awesome module.
  3. Something that has bothered me for a while is the fact that when you are hooking up to the catapult in the f-18, as the launch bar is dropping into the shuttle the aircraft acts as though it's going over a bump, and the whole plane drops a couple inches. In reality it's just the launch bar sliding up and over the shuttle while pivoting on the nose gear. The actual tires don't go over a bump, and from the cockpit you can't even tell it's happened. Now when the airplane is taken into tension, and the shuttle is moved forward, yes the airplane is correctly nudged forward. But I think the current way the aircraft bounces when simply dropping into the shuttle is incorrect.
  4. The way the carrier is set up now the catapult crew waits about 3 seconds after an aircraft leaves the deck to lower the JBDs and to begin moving into position for the next launch. It would be much more realistic if the crew and the JBDs began to reset when the aircraft was about halfway down the catapult stroke. Refer to how quickly the crew begins to reset: https://youtu.be/cWOpDItw1iI
  5. I think you might be confusing wind over deck with the weather conditions. You could set up the carrier for 40 knots, with completely calm wind and have 40 knots of wind over the deck. But the seas would be completely calm. In order for the swells to create a pitching deck, the atmospheric wind needs to be about 40 knots plus.
  6. My first real attempt at a DCS video. Put together some stuff from a few flights during pitching deck. https://youtu.be/zjVM3Cwhhgw
  7. Put together a short vid of some pitching deck ops.
  8. I've made a few missions in which I try to get AI to land on the carrier, refuel, and launch again. I use the waypoint option to Land and Refuel/Rearm with anywhere from 1-15 minutes to give them time to do their business. I also have waypoints set for after they are to refuel. However, the jets just trap and go park. Is this a bug, or am I doing something incorrect?

    LRLS Question

So, if anyone wants to "backdate" their Supercarrier and turn off the LRLS, I discovered how. Open the specific supercarrier .lau file in ..../DCS World/Core Mods/tech/USS Nimitz/Database and change the LRLS line to false. Here is a test I did without the LRLS. It's a lot more intense when you get visual reference tothe ship only a few seconds out:
  10. Am I the only one who got excited about the sparks from the tail hook in the first shot? I didn't know if that was new in the update but I've never seen them before.

  12. I guess I did leave out the Skipper. LoL. Yeah, I suppose he has a bit of a say in the matter.
  13. My pleasure. It's a good question. I should also note that barricade traps are almost always reserved for airplanes that have limited or no bolter capability, e.g. damaged landing gear, critically low fuel. If the plane can climb away ok after an attempted trap, they will almost always avoid barricades due to the associated dangers with it.
  14. IRL there would be a lot of people looking at the situation and figuring out the best course of action. Questions they would consider: Is a divert field available? How much gas does the aircraft have? What is aircraft's waveoff / bolter capability? Is the aircraft structurally sound? Is the aircraft capable of flying a stable approach? What is the condition of the ship (pitching deck, night, fog, etc.)? Will a barricade trap endanger the crew? Is the situation life threatening? And many others. Depending on the answers to those questions, the airboss, cag lso and pilot will make a decision on what the best course of action is. But if they decide to bring the plane aboard, it will be straight in with at least a 3 mile final. Hope that helps.
  15. I was told that they are shims to prevent the cat track from becoming warped or changing shape, but that was 3rd hand info.

    LA Lights

I wanted to put on the wish list that the landing area lights simply remain on at all times. I've run into numerous instances during daylight operations where the weather is poor enough to restrict visibility but it's not quite case two or three so the landing area lights remain off. This can make seeing the actual landing area somewhat difficult as you're rolling into the groove. Even the sun being in the wrong position can wash out the paint on the deck marking the landing area. I think simply leaving the lights on at all times would remedy the situation.

Not if you're in the clouds! LOL.

    LRLS Question

Copy that. Thanks for your help, dude. Much appreciated. I'm very quickly getting addicted to this SIM.

    LRLS Question

Ahhhh, I see. How do you get to it?

    LRLS Question

Thanks for the reply, Northstar. I was afraid of that. What I'm trying to do is make night traps under ziplip as realistic as possible. Even with an overcast layer and reduced visability, I can still see the LRLS like 5 miles out. Also, I'm not aware of the Airboss station as I'm still a SuperNoob. What is that?

    LRLS Question

Hi, all. I'm a recent convert from FSX and am loving this simulator. My question is, the Long Range Lineup System is not always used on actual carriers. Is there a way to disable it?
