Are the Cougar MFD's worth it?
airdog replied to DocSigma's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Negative......I have 2 monitors...main is a1920x1200 24 inch the 2nd is a 18.5@1366x768. The smaller one displays the mfd's thru the DCS interface and all the helios gauges are displayed in the areas left blank. The cougar mfd's are velcroed to the monitor bezel. The helios program lets you build the cockpit however you want based on your monitor setup. Better pic here though the cougars are on the bezel not the screen now -
Are the Cougar MFD's worth it?
airdog replied to DocSigma's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This is my rig below and why the MFD's, a second screen and HELIOS is worth the investment -
Sounds like you have huge axis mapping issues that need to sorted out in the options screen. Go to your axis commands tab in the control options and make sure you do not have multiple axis's mapped to other axis's. Do you have any idea what trim is or how to trim out your aircraft?? You adjust trim to maintain level flight as or actually any attitude you want. Your aircraft attitude changes with any change of speed and requires constant trimming. If any of this does not make sense to you please let me know and I will give you my home address because your best bet at this point would be for you to send me your warthog hotas as it would be put to better use by me.

And there is nothing like flipping a switch that you dont have to chase cause your friggin head wont quit moving with your Track Ir....Cockpit things just are much smoother and quicker without Track IR...but Track IR is a must for outside views and target tracking.

Well not for the forum but you do register in the store when purchasing the software. Though right now it is free to use because it's beta...just go to the SCsimulations store and purchase it like you would any other product but the price is listed as $0.00 currently. You will get a download link and a license emailed to you eventually...it is not instantaneous.

True the MFD's are exported by the ED A10 software but if you do not have the Cougar MFD's the Helios software has the MFD bezel with Clickable/Touch buttons that you would use and then import the MFD images inside those bezels.
-
This is really an incredible piece of software even in it's beta form. I made all the panels in the Helios software with very little instruction. It will be so worth the money when it is released.

Beta 1 required the boost pumps to be on for the APU to run. ED fixed that to make it more like the real aircraft that has its own DC power pump for the APU...ie no boost pump required.
-
I had the APU thing happen once but it was pilot error. I tried to start the engine before the APU was up and running at full speed. This action caused the APU to hang at the RPM it was at when I engaged the starter for the engine. Once I deselected the enginge start the APU ran up to normal RPM and all was well again. I wonder if that is what happened to your wingie.

Quick question...does the A10's fuselage tanks contain bladders for the fuel?? On the F18 for example the 4 fuselage tanks have bladders, if a bladder springs a leak and leaks into the cavity between the bladder and the fuselage it drains out of a fuel vent on the bottom of the aircraft...whichever vent it comes out of lets you know what tank is leaking and needs the bladder changed. Is this what the vent in the picture above is for on the A10 or is it actually the vent for the wing tanks?
-
The vent valves main purpose is to allow air/fuel to escape when the tanks are full of fuel and the fuel expands due to weather conditions..ie heat. This prevents the wings from undue internal pressure which could cause a rupture or increase the likelyhood of fuel leaks. I'm not sure about the A10 but alot of larger aircraft that have fuel in the wings use this vent system to move air from the left wing to the right wing and vice-versa...this is for when the aircraft enters a turn the fuel that moves to the outer part of the wing tank cause higher pressure so to relieve that pressure in that particular tank it is ported to the other wing tank throught the vent system. The vent valve is a self contained pressure actuated valve and cannot be selected by any switches to open or close.

You are pushing the weapons release button too early...dont push it until you get the "man rel" cue on the lower left of the hud or when the vanishing circle in the reticle starts moving from the max hash mark. These 2 actions happen at the same time so you can use either or.

Multi-monitor set-up guide & help (unofficial)
airdog replied to MadTommy's topic in Multi-Display Bugs
Well I just tested my theory and it failed miserably but I'll explain it below. When I set up my monitiors in the Nvidia CP any monitor above or left of the monitor labled #1 is given a negative value as far as the X and Y coordinates go. So I just assumed that the .lua files would see that. I was wrong an I apologize putting out info that was wrong. I should have tested my theory before assuming that it would work. My setup has the MFD's below the main monitor so I didn't have any experience with the right and left setup. I was able to make it work by designating the left monitor as #1 in the Nvidia CP but that opened up a monitor shuffle everytime I was out of the sim....not worth it. I apologize to all again for my mistake. -

I put that link in my post also...all we can do is hope ;)

The below line (line 31 in the .lua file) in the options.lua has to be modified to match what you name the other file...mine happens to be "mmbetamfd" but it can be whatever you want to name it. The other mods in the option.lua can be done from the ingame GUI. ["multiMonitorSetup"] = "mmbetamfd",

Below is my .lua file that is referred to from the options.lua file and is the one that outputs to the second screen. Please refer to this thread to learn how to set it up according to your monitors because unless you have a 1920x1200 main monitor and a 1366x768 secondary monitor my files below will not work for you. You have to make the adjustments according to your monitor setup. If you need help let us know the resolutions of your monitors..how they are configured (side by side or on top of eachother) and I can get you the numbers you need to make it work. But you really need to read the above thread I linked to to understand what is going on. Below is my options lua

The gbu38 is a gps guided bomb the mk82air is a true dumb bomb that requires proper employment to get good hits......really bad comparison in this case.
