Does this post get updated if/when a fix is available? Just wanna make sure following this thread will be beneficial^^ Thanks!

Ever since the update, the mirrors in the Su25 and Su27 (these are the ones I tried as of yet), are partly fuzzy with a "border" running through the mirror where the other side looks normal / sharp. I've tried checking the Steam files (I'm on stable), clearing any (shader) caches (in the dcs profile folder). Nothing helps. Here are some screenshots (with red lines showing the border):

Yeah, I too was thinking that maybe DCS might allow for better MFD export configuration; but I'm not sure if/how one could utilize these. When I enable one of my MFDs the "windowPlacement" stays the same as before, and the new "monitors" variable has 2 entries (for 2 monitors) windowPlacement = { ["y"] = 0, ["x"] = 0, ["w"] = 4240, ["h"] = 1440, } -- added with DCS 2.8 and auto-generated: monitors = { [1] = { ["rcMonitor"] = { ["top"] = 0, ["right"] = 3440, ["left"] = 0, ["bottom"] = 1440, }, ["dwFlags"] = 1, ["rcWork"] = { ["top"] = 0, ["right"] = 3440, ["left"] = 0, ["bottom"] = 1400, }, }, [2] = { ["rcMonitor"] = { ["top"] = 0, ["right"] = 4240, ["left"] = 3440, ["bottom"] = 600, }, ["dwFlags"] = 0, ["rcWork"] = { ["top"] = 0, ["right"] = 4240, ["left"] = 3440, ["bottom"] = 600, }, }, } The values from the 2nd are from the 800x600 MFD display. But this is currently configured inside the "monitorsetup" LUAs. I haven't figured out how to use these new variables for or instead of the multimonitor LUA...

Can anyone tell me what these new settings do? Before 2.8.1 windowPlacement = { ["y"] = 0, ["x"] = 0, ["w"] = 3440, ["h"] = 1440, } After the update: windowPlacement = { ["y"] = 0, ["x"] = 0, ["w"] = 3440, ["h"] = 1440, } monitors = { [1] = { ["rcMonitor"] = { ["top"] = 0, ["right"] = 3440, ["left"] = 0, ["bottom"] = 1440, }, ["dwFlags"] = 1, ["rcWork"] = { ["top"] = 0, ["right"] = 3440, ["left"] = 0, ["bottom"] = 1400, }, }, } I ask, because I have different files for how many MFDs I'm running. So, if this code is needed or better yet: if I can use it for something specific, I'd like to know Thanks!

Yep, that's what I'm aiming for. Maybe it's still a bit too sharp (picture is still a bit grainy), but I'm getting there^^

I know this is the wrong thread... but here are some more comparison shots of default summer textures + default trees vs. default summer textures + better trees. DEFAULT BETTER DEFAULT BETTER DEFAULT BETTER DEFAULT BETTER

I use his trees now too; less flickering and way less pop-in. Just look at those super-low-poly trees from default (top left): And here's better trees v6 (medium): True, the colors now are different, but quite ok (not enough variation imho, but maybe that's coming in v7 or so^^)

I did, yeah. I have never been a fan of Reshade; it just changes the overal feel of games too much imho. But after seeing this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGxgD9GNVNw) and the crisp textures and clarity (like lifting a veil), I had to try it. So I've tinkered a bit with the settings (I didn't want to change the "warmth/colors" too much). I'm currently using my "optimal" profile, in where I follow the "less is more" approach. Not even setting clarity too much (as it makes the textures too crisp to look at). FakeHDR is also not really working (I have an 1000nits HDR monitor and know what it shoud look like^^). I've included my 3 profiles, BUT: everyone has to find his own settings! The good thing is: one can adjust the sliders and plugins on-the-fly ingame, which is a huge help setting it up. Good question! I've updated the prices and included taxes; now the differences are really apparent! If I go the Virpil and not the WinWing route, I'll probably use their pedals. With WinWing, I'm gonna buy the Crosswind I guess. But I have to admit: I didn't yet watch/read any reviews of any of those pedals. Cheers!
-
That's gtk! I really have to be mindful about the width... Hm... don't you use the Joystick "brake axis" for that? Like WinWing F-16, Virpil Mongoos or Constellation (I'm gonna buy one of these in the near future). They have a brake lever like the MiG-29. Thanks! I'll give them a closer look
-
Thanks for all your input! Greatly appreciated! I guess I'll have to try it. I don't have a lot of space, but hopefully the dimensions are indicated on the product pages^^ Thrustmaster TPR 530€ MFG Crosswind 337€ VIRPIL ACE Collection Flight Rudder Pedals 420€ VKB T-RUDDER PEDALS MK.IV 215€ Slaw Device RX Viper V2 Rudder Pedals 600€ (incl. VAT, excl. shipping) Quite honestly, VKB's price looks okay'ish; 500 just for pedals... seems wild. But maybe it's a buy-once-cry-once kinda thing...

@Mustang Are those the only two files need (as linked by HawaiianRyan? There seems to be quite some optional stuff in the autoexec; also, the terrainoptions41.lua seems "old" (or too new; I'm still on 2.7) as they don't match quite significantly with the original file... Maybe you could clear up what you changed to get higher view distance?

If anyone is interested: I've made videos for all seasons for comparison: Default textures this + Hangars textures Max graphical settings, without Blur and DOF. Here's the Link: I've also made some pictures: https://stumpfl.lima-city.de/pictures/vergleich/index.php?dir=DCS+-+Textures I gotta say: playing the game with these textures is awesome! So much more detailed! The only negative thing I can say is, that all seasons look a bit too much alike and summer isn't "colorful" enough. Not green enough and no yellow wheat or corn fields. That's why I use the default summer textures. I do have to say though: the semi-winter textures (either as autumn or spring) look fantastic!! Cheers!

How to display owned modules only in bottom main menu?
dlder replied to bofhlusr's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
How do you get those module names? I've tried searching for "declare_plugin", which works for some/most, but for instance the Apache is listed as "AH-64D BLK.II AI"... Hm, I think I got it: search for "self_ID" -
Well, it's not that hard to use the prefered files from each texture pack, but "overall palette", that really is what I'm concerned about. Thanks for your opinion. This is the way!

So, hear me out: I've been using the Z-rudder for everything. DCS jets, Arma3 and other "shooters", Mech-Games and so on and so forth. And I've never felt that something was missing. So why use pedals? They ain't cheap, it's another piece of hardware only to be used for FlightSimming and it seems kinda inconvenient - I suppose - to have your feet in a fixed position all the time. I get why it would be really helpful for helicopters, right? But does anyone ever use the rudder when flying a jet? What for? (taxiing is a given) I guess, never having had any rudders, I just can't think of anything I would need them for. The problem is, a lot of the better HOTAS don't seem to feature the Z-Axis anymore... so I kinda need pedals. That's why I really wanna know how to "properly use them in a jet". Thanks for your input

Maybe a stupid question but: can/should this awesome texture pack be combined with CGTC (Caucasus Ground Textures Compilation) and/or Terrain Matching Caucasus Hanger Textures? I ask, because CGTC has some more edits then this, and TMCH has others as well... So, does anyone know how well they work together? Thanks!
-
Absolutely! Though I was under the impression that the AI does use TWS? Like when fighting against F-14, it'll fire the missile way back and you'll only get a missile warning when it's too late (if you're not defending beforehand, that is). But yeah, getting a feeling for what each missile is capable of (MAR and such), that's really just practice. The Amraam just looses so little energy at high altitudes; that's why I like to "sneak in" from a low, cranked position: it negates the range advantage of the enemy (mostly). This works very well against 1 or 2 targets. But not 4 it seems; you'll just get overrun, as the enemy does have an energy advantage over you. Though having Wingman, which can divert some enemies does help a lot; can't be grouped together though, or you'll just all get showered with missiles
-
update: did it! Finally! I did wait for my Wingman, but after start I immediately flew away of the F16 to gain height and speed, while my Wingman were taking off. Then I turned 90° into the mountains, still gaining height and trying to get the enemy on my radar, cranking at about 50°. I also sent my Wingman to engage the enemy -> this meant I've split my forces, attacking the F16 from 2 different directions AND from different heights (me being at about 11k and my Wingman presumably at around 5k. This worked pretty good! Only the 2nd 2-ship grp (the F16 were split too) even shot at me. Nevertheless, I was the only one surviving... And that RWR range trick worked pretty well! I always thought a missile would be too fast for that, but it is usefull if it's not shot at close range, where the speed difference isn't that high anymore (diving down and away you get 1.2-1.4 easy).
-
Thanks! So you'd not wait for your wingman to taxii and start with you, but to attack 4 F-16 alone? Jesus, that sound scary AF. Nice tip with the RWR; is it really that precise to tell if the missile isn't closing in anylonger? I've gotta test this in a trainings mission, because in Tacview I can see that I always play it too safe and loose valuable time in where my Wingman get slaughtered. And that's my biggest problem, I think: they usually kill none. They are only good for distracting the enemy. Great video btw; some new information even!

Ok, so this might be a weird call for help: I've flown the 29A and 29S quite a while now and am currently on this campaign: "Winter Sun" https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/472188/ (I have Google-converted the text to English) Anyway, even though I had quite a few - usually succesful^^ - fights against Amraams, I just cannot figure out how to do mission 6. I've tried over 30 times now, with various AI skill level settings, going in high or low, with or without ECM, doing various cranking manouvers, but the 4x F-16s just always get me and my Wingman! I can usually down 1-2, while my Wingman don't manage even 1 kill. Could someone better skilled then my please fly this mission and put a video up on youtube or something? I just wanna know how it could be done. Yes, I know, 4v4 shouldn't be impossible; with R-77 actually quite doable, but I'm just unable to beat this particular mission I have included the translated campaign and just the mission itself. Thanks Winter Sun (English-Google).7z WS_fc3_29c_06_ru.7z

So... this is really weird. It's a mission with ground targets for a different group (Su-34s). Me and 3 wingman are flying the Mig-29S with A2A weapons and task "Fighter Sweep". There are 4x F-16 incoming. Whenever I send "engage bandits", all my wingman will divert, fly down to the enemy ground targets (bunch of APCs) and strafe them with their guns. All while I'm engaging the F-16s and they get shot down bei Amraams. WTF? I now have even disabled the APCs and enable them at the same time as the Su-34s (which is after the F-16 are destroyed), 2 of my wingman (#3 and #4) are still going after some static planes at the enemy airfield; at least that's my guess. What is wrong (with the AI)?? Doesn't Fighter Sweep and "Bandits" tell them in no uncertain terms to engage enemy Jets? I don't have the time to assign a specific target to each wingman and tell him to "engage my target"; not with the enemies ECM, as I can only STT them rather close. I really don't know what else I can do...

As I just wanted to start a thread just like this, so let me +1 this! "Extreme" is not really extreme. I only have a 1080Ti and can max everything out. Trees, even at quite a low altitude (low enough that the low poly/meshes are quite noticable!), the trees look like green globs or even 2D sprites like back in the good old Doom days. Ground textures too are way too low-detailed for flying with strike aircraft! I don't even wanna mention helicopters of god forbid using vehicles. Especially considering the freakish raw performance of the 4090, you really should give the players the option for all the quality and most importantly LOD settings! Maybe like a submenu right under the "View Distance", where everyone still can select the preset, but people with higher end PCs can open that menu and have all the sliders available. I don't know how your LOD system works (I guess usually you'd have 3 kinds of detail levels for objects?). So add sliders where one can set the distance - in meters - for every such setting (which are already in the lua files I'd imagine). TREES Near <slider> Normal <slider> Far <slider> SMOKE Near <slider> Normal <slider> Far <slider> ... Thanks for your consideration!

Wrong aircraft in the Su-25A campaign 'Revanche'
dlder replied to dlder's topic in Flaming Cliffs Bugs & Problems
Jesus, don't get your knickers in a twist... I just found it very weird to fly the "T" in the trainings, that's all. And that training missions in a campaign don't add anything. Yep, lazy. I'm talking about the training missions. Not the campaign itself. And that just really does seem like lengthening the campaign with zero value. Don't get me wrong, ED really should add training missions for all their aircraft and systems (like when they add a new feature on a plane, add a trainings mission highlighting that stuff). Take the F-15C for instance: you can get an awesome training "campaign" via Userfiles; something like that should've been included in DCS though. But doing a "her is a target, destroy it anywhichway"... that takes about 5min in the editor; especially considering those missions are copy/pasted each time.
