Nice explanation. I already discovered that you need to trim a little forward or else you takeoff nose high. I also found you need to trim as soon as you land or all sorts can happen once you are down!
-
Sounds good. Will try everything that has been mentioned so far.

Above sounds perfect. You can hover up to maybe 8km away, you don't get a launch symbol as you are out of range, but you can flick the the fire mode to manual then you can launch from as far away as you like. I got a good strike against a tank from 8km away. It's quite handy if you really need to take out a SAM from a distance.

Thanks for the info. It all seems over complicated. I can't imagine a real pilot having to do all this trimming every time he accelerates and slows to a new hover point. We don't have the situation awareness, the G-forces or the control systems a real pilot has so they should have made it a little more forgiving. I can live with it, although it is a little frustrating.

That exactly what I do. I seem to have the nose about 5 degrees to the left of the flight path, with the bubble off to the right. I trim it with right rudder, reset trim and everything is ok. The hard part is once you slow down, you start to get a yaw to the right because the pedals are centred with with right rudder. I think it would be better the trim reset only trims the stick and not the rudder. I am sure this happens when I have the autopilot blue lights on, well, 3 of them anyway. I have still to mess around with the AP, maybe thats what I'm doing wrong.

I guess the physics are pretty complex for this beast. S=UT+1/AT2 probably doesn't cover it all!! Maybe Kamov can put a Tornado GR4 tail fin on it to hold her steady!

I am trying different techniques but so far I am still experimenting. I saw the "display controls" option and have still to enable it, that might help. I will keep experimenting with when to reset the trim. Like you said, once you are at speed or crawling before hover, it isn't really a problem. My next question is why do you need to put a big boot of rudder in as you speed up, with contra-rotating rotors, I thought they would cancel the yaw motion out much more than it seems to in the game.

Trimming reset problems So I have pretty much mastered the slow speeds and hovers of the chopper. I can manually hover on the spot, fly sideways, backwards, land on various buildings etc with no problems. When I start to fly faster, around 100kts + then I always seem to be having to use a fair amount of right rudder to keep the bubble centered otherwise I'm skidding. I know how to use the trim reset (I think!) and find it second nature now, but what I noticed is, becuase I use a lot of rudder to keep the nose straight, when I reset the trim ( normally to reset the amount of movemnet require for pitch), it also resets the foot pedals for rudder. That means if you have a fair amount of rudder in the hold it straight and you quickly reset the trim as you increase speed, then when you recentre the joystick and bring the nose up to level flight, when you start to centre the rudder, your nose swings the wrong way. You then have to try and look at the pedals and make then centred then hit trim quickly to have then centred without any input on the joystick..... does that make any sense??? Sounds like I'm gibbering away! I'm using a CH pro throttle mini joystick x-axis for rudder.

You should seatch for Wags tutorials on youtube. Try search for black shark note 6 power on weapons system - Switch laser on - Switch uncage sensor - O key master arm on - Switch select pylon - S key or Y (try S, I press Z because I have German keyboard) lock target - map sensor head to throttle and lock button fire - release weapon mapped to button reset weapons system - backspace "Switch" means a switch in cockpit, won't even try to explain which one, youtube shows you. Press C at anytime to get cannon. Try that for starters, very rough guide, I'm still learning it.

Would love to see any version of the A10 and Apache. Not bothered about any fast air though, keep it low and slow for now!

Tool tip fonts hard to read when playing
Dr_Watson replied to Stingray's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
This sound like a similar problem people are experiencing with the PMDG MD11. Hard to read buttons and tool tips due to a really blurry font. As far as I know it was on ATI cards only. I have a 8800GT so I have no problems at all but maybe the MD11 problem can help you solve this. MD11 forum is on avsim I think. Maybe they are complete un-related though. -
I have had some strange control problems too. Sometimes things work in the instant action, then in a training mission they don't. What I found was there is a option in the gameplay that says something about "use these settings in all missions" and now everything is fine. Just a shot in the dark.

PC hardware upgrade priority for Black Shark??
Dr_Watson replied to V1Rotate's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
You must be one of the very few running a 6600 at stock speeds. You can clock it to around 3.1Ghz easily and you have a free performance boost right there! -
VG points from you and DVST!

Not being rude....but what is the point of the demo? You obviously have to put a lot of resources into the demo to get it working, debugged, distributed etc. We are going to buy the game no matter what we think of the demo. The demo may be full of bugs (remember lockon) in which case we will buy the game because obviously the game could not be released in the state the demo was in, or, the demo is a belter and we love, so we buy the game.....I just think it's a waste of time. The flight sim community is tiny in comparison to other communities. We will buy the game no matter what state it is as this is the first of its kind for a very long time. I doubt Joe Bloggs off the street is gonna come across a demo of a game he has not heard of and think , this looks cool, I think I will buy it. Edit...Maybe I answer my own question. Maybe it is fairly easy to do a demo and will just give us a taster of what the full game has to offer, just a bloomin teasing us then I guess!!!

DCS Multiplayer and Aircraft "Jumpiness"
Dr_Watson replied to ericinexile's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Sound good. I too love Il2 online on HL..smooth as silk. Have seen a few warping planes but that was on a server with 60 players! Lockon can be good some nights and rubbish others which is a shame. -
mmm, says its a private vid, am I doing something wrong?

Hi I have not played Lockon FC for a while now but after watching youtube videos from Wags, I thought that since BS is coming out soon, I should get back in FC to get warmed up for some A2G action. After a couple of mission on HL, I was getting very frustrated with the damaged modeling on the AI ground units, especially with the 30mm cannon. I had a couple of ZSU23 tracking me as I attacked a convoy. From a short range, I gave 2 second burst onto the ZSU, I would imagine about 20-30% of the shells struck the vehicle directly, the rest within a few meters. The ZSU continued firing at me and showed no sign of battle damage at all. It seems to be that you need to have a direct hit for a constant number of seconds before the target is killed. This simply isn’t very realistic at all. A short burst of 30mm on a target would certainly render the “soft” radar useless so you should be safer from return fire. The rockets have a similar effect and are even harder to get a kill with as you can not aim as accurately and score an absoloute direct hit as easily you can with the 30mm. How is the damage model in BS? I hope it is a big improvement as the whole sim is based around ground attack. I think this is an important point, it could make or break the sim for me. Maybe I am wrong in many points, do correct me, I haven’t been in Lockon for maybe a year but now I am enjoying it again since my PC can run it nicely now. Cheers Iain

DCS: Black Shark - Q&A **READ FIRST!**
Dr_Watson replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Exactly my thoughts too...u saved me the hassle of typing them. The E8500 will give great results anyway if you pair it along with a 4870 for example. If it doesn't then we are all doomed! I guess the time gap bewteen a new module that is optimised for a quad will be long enough to warrant going for a dual just now. It also depends if a quad really makes that much difference in the future but we will see at the time. An upgrade wouldn't be a big hassle anyway. -
DCS: Black Shark - Q&A **READ FIRST!**
Dr_Watson replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I have a question about multicore CPU's, particularly dual v's quad. My father is about to order a new PC. I will visit him in Scotland at Xmas to set it up. Lets say he wants to optimize the CPU for BS. His budget allows him to buy an E8500 and run it around 3.6Ghz or he can opt for a Q6700 or similar and clock it up maybe to 3Ghz. Which one should he buy? Will BS utilise the quad cores now or in the distance future. I am guessing the higher speed E8500 will be better, it will also give better results in IL2 1946 and FS9 which are the other 2 games he plays. Sorry if this has been asked before, I have trolled thru the forum but kind find clear answwer to this. Cheers Iain -
I managed to work it out by looking at the pre-made co-op missions. The problem I have now is once you set an aircraft, and waypoints etc, how do you then give the second, seperate flight for the other client, the exact same waypoints etc. Can anybody help me there. The other problem I have is when placing statc objects on the ground to practise some bombing. When you place a static B52 for example, is ther a way to place another 3 or 4 without always having to select the country, object type etc. Like in IL2, you can hold control and place them at will. I also dont see an option to go into a 3D view so you can carefully place object where you want. Is this possible in Lockon like it is in IL2. Thanks for any help.

Lock On: Flaming Cliffs Distribution Option Polling
Dr_Watson replied to Wags's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
So what would happen to those that don't have Paypal accounts - we never get the addon? Anything but Paypal, that service has messed me around so many times I have gave up with it (along with alot of other people I know). Visa all the way.
