It seems every time there is an update I either lose the settings for my Hotas in various modules I have or the controls are allocated to different devices. It peeves me that I have to re-assign controls, regardless of the fact I have saved them as profiles for each aircraft I have. :helpsmilie:

Thanks everyone. I have them on the same drive which is quickly running out of space. I don't suppose I can move it to another drive can I? I'm guessing some work on the registry would be required.

The thread title says it all really. Can I delete the release 2.5 if I have the 2.5 Beta with no ill effects? Are there pitfalls to avoid or folders to save to one side?
-
...do we need to have the release version or will the auto updates bring us up to date? If, as I fear, we have to download the "Release" version, is there a safe process whereby module licences don't get lost or lose an activation? I certainly cannot find anything on the website to help on this.

No point in either as neither of them carried missiles as I remember and were guns, guns, guns. Given that we have BVR aircraft around why bother? You may as well stick them in IL-2!

I make sure the keys I can program are available (eg, I don't have a RWin button on my Logitech keyboard) and once they are assigned for use in the sim then I use the SST to set it all up. I use an X-45 by the way.

Dummies Guide for the “MonitorSetup.lua“
Griffin-185th replied to PeterP's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
Is this file hacked? I tried running it and got endless Paypal screens coming up. I've deleted the program and files. -
Up to speed now with Win 7, 64 bit. I still only have 4GB of RAM (more on the way) but it works a treat. Had my first look at the Mustang...drool. What a beautiful plane (not as smart as the Spitfire though :smilewink:).
-
Thanks again for your support. The memory fix doesn't work so I may have to bite the bullet and go 64 bit. What a pain.
-
Thank you all for your responses. I'm trying the increaseuserva trick and will let you know if I do not succeed. I would love to put 64 bit on my system, but I have so much stuff on the 32 bit that I'd be here forever reinstalling programs and downloading 64 bit versions. The latter leads me to another question ( I know it's in the wrong forum but hey, I'm on a roll :smilewink:), I have the 32 bit DCS products. How do I get the 64 bit without coughing up more cash?

I have recently installed Windows 8 Pro (32bit) as well as buying the P51 module in the sales fro the website. When trying to start any module the mission (mostly training ones) screen appears. On pressing to commit the loading screens appear. I get to "loading ground units" then the loading bar resets and then progresses about 2/5ths of the way along before DCS stops working. I get the Windows error box telling me this. The sim then goes back to the mission page at which point I exit. Crash logs attached. Help! Griffin-185th Crash Logs.rar

When you get bored of destroying tanks...
Griffin-185th replied to Sickdog's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
When I saw the first pic, I thought you had done a mod for a low level embarkation gate for the A-10 then I saw the rest.:D Neat flying though. It would have been good to see some sparks. :music_whistling: -
Boatswitch. Or any 3 position switch for that matter
Griffin-185th replied to bloomstomb's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I don't know what stick you have, so my advice for X-45 users may not be for you. I use the Aux 1, 2 and 3 switches for this. I apply a macro so the equivalent keypress is only as long as it needs to be. I found this out the hard way when I loaded the A-10 profile before entering the sim and Windows desktop went bananas with the constantly repeated keypress  I hope this is useful to someone. -
Cant get Clearance to Taxi to Runway
Griffin-185th replied to tbodrero's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
It would be good if the ATC advised something like "Hog 11 cleared to taxi runway 31. Hold short" like you get in Falcon. A small but useful amendment I think. -
Warrior X, your start up guide is superb. Good work sir.

Cant get Clearance to Taxi to Runway
Griffin-185th replied to tbodrero's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I haven't once had permission to take off. I've had my permission to start engines and permission to taxi to the runway, but once there I get the repeated message that they're unable to give take off clearance. Once I've cursed the atc a few times I take off. Ah the joys of AI. :-) -
@ Grimes: Nice response sir. On topic, I love flying the valleys of the Balkans in F4 AF and would welcome the opportunity of doing the PPCAS missions in a-10C. Would that be too similar to what we already have? +1 for the Afghan theatre though.

I certainly was not in any way decrying the efforts of the developers of this sim. It is clearly a superior product that took a lot of time to create and cudos to ED for that. I do stand by the point that if you sell a product the purchaser shouldexpect get everything that is displayed on the package. Software development has nothing to do with it. This is purely marketing. I have enjoyed this debate though as it shows the depth of feeling and ultimate support for this sim and a willingness to spend more money to get the results of EDs efforts.

While as a Beta tester I'm a happy man knowing the Nevada map will be a freebie, it saddens me to think anything else will cost us. I know it costs money to develop this stuff, but if talented public modders are preparing Afganistan and maybe others for free distribution, why can't ED do the same and help keep the sim fresh? In particular it strikes me as a poor move from ED that though Nevada was included in the original beta, that the retail release doesn't have it, even though the cost is the same. Not a particularly fair move methinks.

Thanks for the pointers gents. Most appreciated.

I want to modify one of the skins for our virtual squadron but can't find a template to work from. Anyone know where they are in the sim folders. Also, are they in a Photoshoppable format or is there a trick to modding them?

Directory of Screenshots and Missions
Griffin-185th replied to STP Dragon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Problem is that when I press the screenshot button and I get that bit of a stutter as it saves it, the file goes off into the ether. My screenshot folder is empty. Nor do I have a DCS A-10C folder in my user directory. Is this right? -
Need An Idiots Guide For the Mission Editor
Griffin-185th replied to GAJ52's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
OK I used CamStudio to record the video lesson and Handbrake to reduce the video to YouTube size. Both are free software.
