How do you use F18 to perform SEAD tasks?
FrostLaufeyson replied to FrostLaufeyson's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Does your 65F use pre-known coordinates? Compared with A10C, F18's Maverick is very cumbersome to use. If there is no coordinate known in advance, I think it is difficult to aim in such a short time after the leap. In addition, I have heard people discuss how to execute SEAD in the IADS script. This script sounds very interesting and makes the SEAD task produce more interesting coping strategies. But I haven't encountered this script in the server I play. -

JSOW is easily intercepted by missiles. It floats towards the target, so its speed is very slow. -
How do you use F18 to perform SEAD tasks?
FrostLaufeyson replied to FrostLaufeyson's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Is there an option in the game editor to allow a launch vehicle to have an unlimited number of missiles? If so, I have to consider whether this will happen in the PVE server. Constantly consuming enemy air defense missiles is indeed an interesting and weird method. -
How do you use F18 to perform SEAD tasks?
FrostLaufeyson replied to FrostLaufeyson's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Yes, the DCS air defense system does not intercept bombs. Even a bomb as big as Walleye would remain indifferent. Therefore, after knowing the exact location of the air defense unit, I will choose JDAM to clean up. Although JDAM is a good choice in DCS, I don't think it will be done in reality (Meanwhile, I don't know how to deal with it in reality). So I spent some time studying how to make HARM break through the interception of air defense missiles. When you are at an altitude of 35,000 feet and have a speed of Mach 1, you can penetrate the enemy's air defense circle through ECM. At about 32 nautical miles, the enemy’s missile will be launched. At this time, you can choose PB mode and A/C mode to send the missile into the high altitude. And the missile will have enough energy to rush into the air defense circle. However, HARM’s SP mode and TOO mode cannot have enough speed to rush in. These two modes will only fly horizontally and will not have a high-throw trajectory. Generally speaking, this kind of SEAD tasks requires a team to cooperate with the saturation strike, but I usually play alone in the PVE server. Therefore, when faced with a large number of air defense units, I often feel very helpless. Moreover, in the PVE server, the F10 map allows you to view the coordinates of enemy units. What I am more interested in now is how to perform SEAD tasks when only the approximate coordinates are known. I have seen someone use HARM to find ground targets, then mark them with TPOD, and finally clean them with JSOW. But for units with a long air defense range, JSOW will be intercepted, and JDAM cannot approach it. Even if the coordinates are determined by some method, you may not be able to identify the other party's radar model through RWR (HARM's PB mode requires a target code). -

So is the current SEAD task simulated badly? I do find some weird ways to deal with these AI-controlled dumb air defenses with single hornet -

I know -
In my recent exercises and tests, I found that HARM's PB mode is very fierce. With ECM, F18 can be suppressed to a very close range to launch HARM. SAM is almost powerless and difficult to intercept HARM in PB mode. For short-range missiles, you can even use TGP and GBU-12 to clean up. But air defense systems like the S300 usually have many search radars. HARM's PB mode will make all 4 missiles hit one radar, which is very wasteful. Is there a way to make these 4 missiles search for different targets? Otherwise, you have to hover 4 times, which is very inefficient. We can also discuss other SEAD methods here. I really need to open up my mind.

need track replay IAM weapon accuracy problem
FrostLaufeyson replied to FrostLaufeyson's topic in Weapon Bugs
This problem has troubled me for more than a month. It was not until I posted today that a friend told me that the "Unrestricted SATNAV" option might be the reason. Coincidentally, since I started practicing the J11 bombing skills, I have always set the country of my aircraft to China. After I bought F18 at the beginning of last month, I began to practice various weapons of F18, and I haven't changed the country option. Meanwhile, my default mission settings did not check the "Unrestricted SATNAV" option. So I tried various methods and asked many people to try to solve this problem. I previously turned on dynamic pause and acceleration in the air to reduce the calibration time of JDAM. I thought these were potential reasons. So I later tried to take off and then drop the bomb after calibration on the ground, but it was useless. Now I know what happened after I understand the function of the "unrestricted satnav" option. After three rounds of testing, I have determined that it is the root cause. I never thought DCS would simulate this. -
I don't know for any strange reason that my JDAM can never hit the target accurately in the task edited by myself, and the accuracy is not even as high as that of the MK82 thrown by CCIP. The TV guidance of SLAM-ER also has this problem. And JSOW-C has no similar problems. These situations will only happen in my single-player editing missions. In multiplayer games, these weapons are all accurate and can hit with a 100% probability. So I wonder which options in task editing cause these problems. I hope this problem can be solved so that I can practice weapons in my customized tasks. The picture below shows the 8 JDAMs I dropped after specifying a single coordinate. They were scattered in abnormal positions. This never happens in multiplayer games.

What is the main difference between litening pod and atflir
FrostLaufeyson replied to MivwTaupos's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
LITENING: Relatively speaking, you can see ground targets more clearly. Two stations to put. ATFLIR: When moving the cursor, the coordinates in the TOO mode of the weapon are automatically changed (LITENING needs to depress TDC). You can move the cursor in AREA tracking mode (LITENING can't do it), so you can capture moving targets more easily. Only one station to put(at the ventral side of the aircraft). Overall, I prefer ATFLIR. Although its image is more blurred, it is much more convenient to operate than LITENING. I suggest you try both pods and draw your own conclusions. -
DTC for DCS - new version 7.2.0 - Apache added
FrostLaufeyson replied to SFJackBauer's topic in DCS Modding
I hope this mod can support F18 as soon as possible. Every time you drive F18, you need to set a lot of parameters for the radar, which is too painful. -
To be precise, when I use the Xbox One S controller, I press Alt+Tab to switch to another window and switch back to DCS in any way (either by clicking the mouse or switching back by Alt+Tab). There is a random probability to trigger this problem. Because the Trigger button of my controller is bound to the throttle of the aircraft, when using and releasing the Trigger button under normal circumstances, the throttle should stay at half the position. When the controller is not connected, switching windows won't trigger this problem. All the aircraft I own have this problem (including FC3, F18, A10), so it shouldn't be related to the aircraft. This bug is very annoying. When I configure the aircraft on the ground, I may need to consult the PDF manual. When I switch back to DCS, my aircraft will randomly trigger this half-throttle bug, causing my aircraft to taxi out. When I cruise at a certain speed in the air and want to switch windows to communicate with other chat tools, switching back will also trigger this bug. The Steam version of DCS will open the Steam built-in window when Shift+Tab is used to open the in-game chat box. At this time, closing the built-in window will 100% trigger this bug. Again, this problem occurs only when the controller is used.

1. The influence of SIZE option and RCS option on AIM-120. Would it be more conducive to 120 hit fighters if you choose SML? 2. The data link gives the altitude information of the enemy aircraft. Is there a way for the radar to automatically adjust the elevation angle of the radar antenna after I press TDC based on this altitude information? 3. How to set radar parameters in BVR to make me more conducive to PVP battles? Generally speaking, I will use TWS mode, HI PRF, 2Bar*40°, and select Auto after locking. Are there any other ideas that I can learn from? 4. What is the practical use of the AZ/EL page during the flight? I know its basic functions, but I don't know how to use it flexibly. 5. Coordinate transfer and conversion. Can I put the coordinates of Waypoints and Markpoints into the coordinates of the PP mode of the GPS weapon? 6. What can the two F18s transmit to each other? As far as I know, I can see the attack points of my teammates on the ground through the helmet. Similarly, the SA page can also see the target attack points. During air combat, you can see the dotted line when teammates lock the enemy aircrafts. But I would like to know whether the coordinates of Waypoints and Markpoints can be directly transmitted to the other's aircraft instead of manually inputting them through voice communication. And can the wingman guide my 120? 7. What information can be transmitted between F18 and other types of aircraft? As far as I know, aircrafts with Link-16 can share data links. It can also be used with other aircraft for Buddy Lasing. I don't know the rest at all. 8. What image quality options will affect the visual distance of air targets and ground targets? How to set the image quality to help see the target clearly, especially when the dog fights to see the target position in time, instead of staring at that position and suddenly losing sight of the target? In fact, I want to ask more than these questions, but I couldn't think of them all at once. DCS has brought me countless knowledge and doubts, and it also opened my eyes. If there are any questions, I would like to ask if any Youtuber can explain some advanced skills. Yesterday I saw someone use HARM’s TOO mode to search for radar, then guide the pod over, use Mark to create multiple Markpoints, and finally use JSOW to attack. This is something I have never thought about since playing for nearly two months. The manual will only teach you how to do one thing, but it will not teach you how to do one thing efficiently. So I really want to know where else I can learn these interesting tips.

ATFLIR + Maverick Workflow Question on a Moving Target
FrostLaufeyson replied to Hawkeye91's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
As far as I know, it seems that A10C can do what you want, but 18 can't. However, I don’t have A10C, so I want to know if this is an 18 problem as well, or if it’s an annoying feature -
It's a pity that there is no storm in the game. I really want to see the spectacular clouds (like a bunch of people drilling into a tornado in 2042) Thanks for your answer

Off topic, what role does this "MAP" mode play in reality? I find it useless in the game for me (because I can't see what is on it, let alone find an airport)

How do you clean up the tank fleet efficiently?
FrostLaufeyson replied to FrostLaufeyson's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
The way the 65F is used is different from what I expected, but I think I should be able to attack 4 tanks in a single dive after practicing a few more times. -
How do you clean up the tank fleet efficiently?
FrostLaufeyson replied to FrostLaufeyson's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
I just want to know if there is any way that the F18 can destroy as many targets as possible in a single dive. In other words, how can you pour your weapons on the enemy in the shortest time However, it seems that these things can be shown off by A10C. I just want to know how far F18 can do. -
In the previous discount, I bought the F18. Compared with the FC3, it really has many interesting ground weapons, and I have basically learned them all. Since I often conduct air-to-ground attacks on PVE servers, now I want to know some common countermeasures. Regardless of the cost, using JSOW-C with LITENING can strike 8 ground targets in one round, which is very efficient. But for moving targets, I have to use laser guided weapons, usually GBU-12 (because it can also carry 8 at a time), but I can only hit one ground target per round. I also tried to use AGM-65F to attack four moving tanks at once, but after LITENING locked the target, 65F could no longer adjust the camera. The power of cluster bombs in DCS does not seem to be strong enough, and F18 does not have terminal sensitive bombs, so I am reluctant to use cluster bombs. If MK-20 or CBU-99 is your answer, then I will try to practice.

Need help about Helios and Spacedesk
FrostLaufeyson replied to FrostLaufeyson's topic in DCS Modding
I solved it I should search on the github first https://github.com/HeliosVirtualCockpit/Helios/issues/217 -
I used my iPad as a secondary screen and used Spacedesk for projection. When I was using Helios, something went wrong. It's wired that when I touched the mfcd button (with my finger), it will become a double click instead of single click. In addition, when I don't use Helios, there's no problem with all this. A poke of my finger corresponds to a single click. I want to know if anyone has encountered the same situation or has any solution

The chat function is quite uncomfortable
FrostLaufeyson replied to FrostLaufeyson's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Indeed, this is like a communication tool homework written by a college student, which only contains the most basic functions
