https://gitlab.com/znixian/OpenOVR/-/tree/openxr#system-wide-installation That should be the installation link. Basically save it to a folder and run the executable AppGPU is the time taken by the gpu to render the image, this is calculated to FPS with 1000/appGPU (in ms) = FPS. Therefore 1000/11.1ms=90 FPS, 1000/16.6ms=60 FPS and so on so forth. The openxr toolkit overlay will show you the appGPU frametime and you should be able to check that it correlates with the FPS counter.
-
That's massively out of date, switch to the global install version. You need to compare your appGPU frametimes.

OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)

I don't think so, because all of the tools we use are external to Microsoft, they're not actually part of Windows or WMR. -
Check your appGPU frametimes and see if they correlate with your FPS. There was some reporting of AMD gpus locking themselves to 45fps for no apparent reason in openxr. This was with reprojection disabled. Try running the G2 at 60hz and see if you get a different number

It's an alternative method of sharpening to the one applied by FSR, it's still an AMD tech. https://gpuopen.com/fidelityfx-cas/ -

Update to openxr toolkit, not tested all functionality yet as I'm working away from home. New experimental turbo mode has been added, this can increase performance in certain circumstances. I've seen up to 15fps increase at times. Only works without reprojection. Also CAS sharpening so you don't need to enable FSR to sharpen. https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/ -
A Z-depth offset would be incredibly useful if it's possible to implement without breaking everything else

Another thing I've noticed is that the cockpit glass reflections appear to be incredibly low resolution, the edges look like a staircase. Not sure if this is intentional but I'd rather go without

Cyclic Force Trim Mod for Virpil VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base
edmuss replied to CrashMeTwice's topic in VIRPIL Controls
Sorry for the slight hijack! I think I've got a workable mechanical solution for the deflection/return to trimmed centre My warthog is setup with a 75mm extension, a custom base plate (it's a centre stick and needs to fit between my thighs) and a collar that clamps onto the handle fixing ring to facilitate fitting of things via M5 tapped holes. The two rod mechanisms can be locked to a set length and work in unison to hold the stick on both axes, in one (trimmed) position. The locks have the ability to deflect a small amount and should return the stick back to it's trimmed position. Inside of the lock body is a shuttle (red) and cam (yellow) that locks onto the through rod. The shuttle is sprung to a central position within the body (with an end cap on the open end - not modelled it yet) with a pair of compression springs that the through rod passes through. The shuttle is locked to the through rod by the cam which has a compression spring concentric to the pull cable, when the cable is pulled the cam releases the rod and it's free to be set to a trimmed position. With the sprung movement on the shuttle the stick should have approximately +/- 5° of movement whilst still holding trim and being able to return to centre. The cables will be pulled via a bike brake lever mounted to the top of the extension, the lever will be vertical and sitting alongside the warthog pinky paddle. The cable will be split 2-1 and independantly tensioned to ensure that both locks release at the same time Nowhere near as nice as your all singing, all dancing design but hopefully should work quite nicely as a mechanical analogue I've submitted the drawings for the body and shuttle to be machined in delrin, the through rod, cam and end plate I'll make but hand in aluminum.- 35 replies

I've gotten back to up to a pretty realiable 13ms frametime which is keeping me above the 60hz refresh rate. G2 running @60Hz, openxr toolkit set to 2600 wide resolution, FFR quality/wide, MSAAx2, high textures, high shadows, medium visibility. I think clouds are either low or standard but I'm rarely up in them so not an issue for me. No reprojection. Terrain shadows off and low water (from high but I'm still unsure if this is a a major part of the losses) have been the sacrifices to keep the rest of it medium/high. I can just about hold 60 FPS over Beirut with occasional dips down to high 50s which is ok, anywhere else is pretty solid 60fps and perfectly smooth.

The ultraleap software relies on the contrasting outline of the hands being defined, if it can't cleanly detect the outline against an IR reflecting surface then it'll struggle to keep all the fingers tracked. I had all sorts of issues until I covered my desk with the self adhesive foam sheet, that simple change resulted in almost perfect tracking.
-
In addition to all of the above, my abris is telling me that my ground speed is 450kmh, I'm fairly certain that's incorrect Also the HUD selector switch can't be operated with leap motion any more and for some reason the shark keeps getting NVG fitted instead of the normal HMS.
-
Generally if you're getting the hand closing up it's because of occlusion, some of the fingers can't be seen by the sensor and it thinks the hand is closed into a fist. The other possibility could be IR reflecting surfaces behind where your putting you hand. In the visualiser, look for bright white reflective surfaces, if you have any you want to get rid of them ideally. I find closed cell foam sheet works very well.

Clarity improved for me, the new ka50 cockpit looks lovely Performance has dropped, I can run high settings and still pull >60fps to keep above refresh rate if I turn off terrain shadows and MSAA. Oddly enough turning anisotropic filtering from 16 to off gave me close to 3ms uplift, I've never seen a performance hit before with AF. Perhaps it's interacting badly with the new clouds and textures?

Cyclic Force Trim Mod for Virpil VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base
edmuss replied to CrashMeTwice's topic in VIRPIL Controls
Ah if only I had the space for my own miller! I have to make do with a vice and hand tools at home. I can use the pillar drill and lathes at work but we don't have a manual mill anymore, only a 2.5 axis CNC which I can't use, I can get bits made though. I've got to spend a little more time in solidworks to finalise the design but the idea of still having some movement from the locked centered position world be nice if I can make it work; I have a couple of ideas to flesh out but will share them once a bit more developed. The locking cam design I've decided on isn't going to be anywhere near the strength of a magnetic door lock so it will be perfectly feasible to push through it if required, just a case of muscle memory to remember to do it correctly.- 35 replies

Yeah I've noticed a few changes, I hadn't noticed the thumb though, good spot! I got really grumpy that they'd removed the option to not use pointers until I found the options squirrelled away in the VR tab under the hand controllers section! The pointers are far more usable now as well, I was able to test getting button press pretty reliably. I still prefer to use the hands to flick and press stuff though All in all some nice improvements, I pity they're not even mentioned in the patch notes or documented anywhere though

AMD 5800X3D, the new King for flight simulators?
edmuss replied to maxsin72's topic in Virtual Reality
On a new build I would go Ryzen 7xxx with the ability to drop an X3D cpu in later when they're available if needed. As long as AMD support the AM5 platform as they have done the AM4 then you should have a fairly good future proof machine to build upon. Bear in mind that this is the DCS VR forum so the typical machine requirements are huge, in 2D pancake (on a monitor) the GPU requirements are nowhere near as high. -
Cyclic Force Trim Mod for Virpil VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base
edmuss replied to CrashMeTwice's topic in VIRPIL Controls
That's awesome, effectively it's a force feedback cyclic What I'm attempting will hold in one central position but won't give the ability to deflect the stick unless you pull the lever again. Well I could design something that would emulate it but it would complicate the design and I might have to call on the CNC machinist at work for a favour- 35 replies

Cyclic Force Trim Mod for Virpil VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base
edmuss replied to CrashMeTwice's topic in VIRPIL Controls
Would this automatically return to the trimmed centre when deflected or does it just lock the stick in position when the force trim is released? I'm actually in the process of developing a sprung mechanical lock that will hold my WH stick in any given position but release with a lever pull, combined with a switch onto a leo bodnar board it should act nicely. No where near as well done as yours though- 35 replies

I understand than in order to get the quest to use openxr via open composite you need to force it to use steamvr. Then you'll be able to use both openxr toolkit and xrnecksafer. I think it's something like " --force_steamvr" as a command switch on the executable. Note that I use neither quest or necksafer so hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong

OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)

No it doesn't, auto does not enable reprojection for DCS. What you're seeing is the 45hz vsync, it will be smooth facing forwards and for head rotations but not for translating objects (sliding sideways relative to one another). -

How have you turned reprojection on? If you've set it to default then it will be off (that setting is intended for use with MSFS only currently), use always on in the openxr tools desktop app in you want to use reprojection. Better yet leave the desktop app alone and control everything from the in-game toolkit menus. -

I was also sceptical about the benefit that the CPU would make to the GPU, I was expecting none to write home about as my CPU times have always been less than my GPU times. I saw uplift even with a thoroughly saturated GPU that was running at 100% load constantly. I would anticipate that it will still improve the frametimes of the 4090 although not by the same percentages that I saw with the 3070. I guess you might get a ms or so less perhaps? Turn the controllers off? I think there is some binding/emulation functionality of the controllers within openxr but I've never used it. The only time I turn my controllers on is if I want to play half life alyx.
