  1. Make sure that you don't have motion smoothing enabled at all on the input tab.
  2. Would love to be wrong though! I think meta have ruined us with 300 quid subsidised headsets, as shown by the 1500 for the quest pro. It would be nice if it came in closer to 600 but who knows....
  3. Percentage CPU load is an incorrect metric to use because it's over the total number of cores, you have 6 cores, DCS uses approximately 2.5 of them and then there's additional overheads like windows that makes up your 60%. You will find that DCS will be loading 1 core up to 100% pretty much constantly and the others will be just working away. The more cores you have, the more the CPU utilisation goes down with the current engine, when the new engine is launched and more threading is enabled then CPU usage will rise. What is important for DCS is single core performance, compare the 8600k to 11600k and make a judgement. Generally higher clock speeds are better but the 5800x3D has proved that it's not the only metric that matters, at 4.45Ghz it's as fast as the 12900k at 5+Ghz. Additionally newer CPU architecture has higher throughput so my old 4.7Ghz i5 2500k would be much slower than my 4.45Ghz x3D.
  4. I think I've read around the ballpark figure of $900 which means it will be at least 1500 quid overe here
  5. I find the G2 incredibly comfortable, I don't know how it compares to the index weight wise though, but they're both of fairly similar design/makeup. The new shiftall meganex looks to be super lightweight but I don't think a release date has been announced yet.
  6. My dad trained me up on the lathe at around 12 years old, he let me loose on the miller around 15. I had all the time in the world and having a workshop at home was amazing, I spent hours on end making aluminium swarfe and broken milling cutters I mostly made bicycle parts and the miller was so worn out with about 1/2" backlash in the lead screws you had to lock the gib down solid so that it was almost impossible to traverse the bed! Character building, I think that's what my dad called it I'm 20 years off retirement currently (although the state the country over here it's going it's probably going to be 30) and I can hopefully have time and space to tinker.
  7. Everyone needs fancy elongated pockets! Good work, I miss not having access to a miller or the time to use it
  8. One thing I have observed, is that obviously the complexity of the scene shown on the display affects the performance loss; trees seems to be a real killer. It might be worthwhile setting up a mission with both comparative airframes side by side so that they can both focus on the same scenery. I did try a test in the A10 and I found that in certain scenes the TGP loss was only about 0.5ms, whereas if I slewed it over some trees it suddenly jumped to ~2ms loss; have to compare apples to apples
  9. It needs to be recentred pretty quickly, I recall reading that you have 0.5s to return to centre but to me it feels a little less than that. Perhaps eneable to controls overlay (lalt + enter I think?) so it will give some indication of where the sim thinks the stick should be
  10. If the collective is high enough then the wheels will go light and skid. Once up to taxi speed drop the collective enough to just keep forward momentum and you should be able to steer/brake without any problems. Seems to work ok for me, I can make it light and skiddy as you describe but then with finer collective I can also brake hard enough to compress the front stut
  11. Some comparison screenshots from BS3. Caucasus cold start instant action->load->auto start (time accelerated because of time!)->VR zoom on the shkval with it both caged and uncaged. Screenshots taken at 256, 512 and 1024 display resolution settings. G2 running 60Hz at 3128x3060 - recommended default openxr resolution for 12gb GPU. Side by side at 256 resolution of caged vs uncaged, there is a 1.5ms difference between the two which equates to 7fps (~10%) loss Side by side at 1024 resolution of caged vs uncaged, there is a 2.4ms difference between the two which equates to 15fps (~20%) loss Obviously the higher resolution does look better and takes more resources but it seems much higher than it was in 2.7, I don't have 2.7 installed currently so can't test directly. This perceived loss of performance may well be 2.8 related with the new lighting rather than BS3 specifically, testing BS2 back to back in both would perhaps be more conclusive as to whether it's module or version specific. Will attach all of the testing screenshots on a seperate post.
  12. In SP missions where there is no slot choice (instant action etc) then it's an instant texture load, if there is a slot choice then it takes about 3-5 seconds to fully load the textures. In MP I've seen it take 10-12 seconds. Spec is in signature running with high texture settings.
  13. I'm seeing a fairly significant frametime hit simply by uncaging the shkval, typically around 1.5-2ms, this is a much larger hit that the TGP on the A10C or BS2 on 2.7. Reducing display resolution to 256 does improve things somewhat (about 0.8ms hit) but I've not had a chance to do more thorough testing. Once I have done I'll post up some results to see if the correspond to other people's results
  14. Are you engaging and holding trim throughout the whole manoeuvre? I understand that whilst it's entirely feasible to simply press and release trim once stabilised it's better practise to hold it constantly. Also you have a fraction of a second after releasing trim to return your physical stick to centre otherwise you will accrue compound cyclic input. This might be the cause of your sudden pitching.
  15. Check HAGS is off, in the past I've tested with it on (coincidentally with 3600/3070) and found that HAGS world cause steamvr to blue screen the G2. Also worth trying openxr, it's lighter on VRAM load which will help with the 3070 quite a bit.
  16. Interestingly enough, I couldn't repeat this behaviour last night, perhaps it was just a glitch with my throttle?
  17. Does the BS3 match hotas control positions? I've noticed that when doing a cold start my physical collective is at zero but the virtual one is at around 30% as an estimate. When the hydraulics come online and the cyclic centres itself the collective stays in the same place unless you physically reset it. Makes for exciting start if running an auto start with time acceleration on
  18. I've seen this on BS3 this afternoon, not got a track but can grab one if needed?
  19. Note that the CPU time shown by fpsvr/openxr is only the time taken for the CPU to render the frame before it's pushed to the GPU. Other things in the background will thrash the CPU to within an inch of it's life which will bottleneck the current setup. I rather think that in the current climate, a 9th gen Intel is going to lacking soon when paired with a 4090. That said with the move to the new engine it will likely be a better match up
  20. Your CPU won't currently be significantly bottlenecking your GPU as you're working the GPU so hard. As the GPU frametimes come down towards you CPU frametimes then it will start to become a bottleneck. Some missions will always cause slowdown due to the CPU but if you're generally holding 11ms (90fps) then you will probably be ok. That said, the faster throughput of a newer CPU (intel 13th/ryzen 7xxx) will let a 4090 properly spread it's wings.
  21. Another +1 for implementation for BS3 Can we take an existing BS2 profile and copy it to BS3?
  22. I was fortunate, BS3 upgrade purchased and paid for instantly, downloaded in about 3 minutes I think Looking forward to getting into the cockpit a little later!
  23. If I use reprojection then I get a single spot of the ka50 abris that wobbles, regardless of shadows travelling over or not, it's quite odd. The reprojection in openxr isn't as mature or refined as either steamvr or oculus at this current time so chances are you simply didn't have the artifacting in the quest. Now you do, it sticks out like a sore thumb
