Opening audio file stopped working (Set triggers)
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to Bojanglez's topic in Mission Editor Bugs
Not to diminish your issue, but it works for me. So I doubt it is trivially broke. I assume it is not coming up on another screen or off screen? Are all the other UI buttons still active? (i.e. not blocked by a modal dialog?) -
That would be so nice to have. Like undo. And drag-select.

solved Very Strang Internet Behavior
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to [HOUNDS] CptTrips's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Holy Jeebus. I think I fixed it. With the QoS hint I started googling on “QoS settings, Gaming, Internet, Lenovo” and found a Tom’s Hardware forum post describing exactly what I was seeing with a Lenovo. This is a very new Lenovo gaming rig. Turns out they have some fancy software running in the background to do various stuff. Bring that up and there is a setting for something they call “Network Boost” and redirects all bandwidth on your machine to a running game to maximize your gaming experience. Gee thanks. I turned that off and now I am not seeing the problem. Going to test more but it looks like that is the issue. I have plenty of bandwidth. I’ll keep that off for now. If I need it I can enable it when gaming and not needing to stream the screen. Looks like I might could add Discord to the list so it will get a share. Dang that was stressful. I thought I was going crazy. Sorry for blaming DCS. I was wrong. I’ll leave up my embarrassment in case someone else has a similar problem they can find this via search. Thanks for helping brainstorm all. Now with DCS and ME running for 35 min, no problemo! -

So I was talking with an IT whiz friend of mine and he thinks there is some QoS thing somewhere causing this. I never heard of it so it is not something I did, but maybe it is something my provider is doing? I couldn't see anything about QoS in the router admin tabs. I'll have to call them. The thing I noticed ( I said it had to run a minute or two) is that immediately on startup it was getting worse. And a minute or two later it was way down to min. He said that is exactly the behavior you would see with QoS. *All my TV, phone, and internet are through the same provider. He said they will often throttle a PC to maintain best quality to TV and phone. So I'll research that more. Though possibly other people could be having this problem with their provider too and not realize this is what it is. Fingers crossed. Maybe my embarrassment will serve a greater good. -

OK. Put a hold on this. No other application I could run was doing this. Just DCS. I redownloaded Battlefield 4 and ran it MP and it is doing something similar though. Like my ISP is seeing the game traffic and reserving all the bandwidth for it and nothing left over for Discord screen share? That's what I get for only have one game on my machine. I need to research this more on my end. Sorry. -

CPU and mem sitting at about 34% usage. My testing now (to reduce variables) is using a fresh install of Non-Steam beta. No mods. No modules except what came with it. No mods to the missionscripting.lua. Fresh from factory. Don't know what that last stuff is so I expect the answer is no. Thanks. -

I noted a few above this should be moved. I found it with the editor but it is reproducible in Instant Action or even just sitting on the main screen for a minute or two. I'm not a heavy MP player but I have been playing MP some with the squad and some coop with a couple of friends. While doing voice over Discord. It was playable, but cratered once I attempted to share a screen through Discord. That is what started my troubleshooting. I hadn't realized it until I tried to screen share. -

This probably should be moved. It will do it even just sitting on the front screen if I leave it a minute or two. It's not a mem or cpu issue. each running about 34%. ***While its in that state getting 8\2 my phone speed test on the wifi is getting 130/20 so I think something is happening at the machine level not the router. But kill DCS and it's fine again. Running MT Did a fully file integrity check on steam and it still does it. Downloaded a non-steam copy of 2.9 beta. Still same problem. -

You guys are going to think I’m crazy. I’ve had been trying to discord stream my screen to show someone some ME stuff and the FPS was horrible. I ran an internet speed test and it was horrible. I rebooted. Ran speed test everything wonderful. Started DCS, went to mission editor, then tabbed over and checked. Bad. Worked some more and checked again. Worse. Killed the DCS process and checked. Dandy. 125 up 25 dwn. Any time I check when DCS is not running 120ish\20ish. It’s very repeatable for me. I am not having the problem with any other software. I can open VS Code, VS Studio, Inkscape, Libre Office, Blender all simultaneously and internet is perfect. BTW, I tried it with Defender firewall off, same result. And the cable router firewall. No effect. Video showing what I see. Second I kill DCS, all fine. Log attached. https://youtu.be/zkxlrRmIQDM?si=ArI6COIKMW39my0i [Edit] My DCS is Steam based. Wired ethernet. Windows 11. etc. Oh and not seeing it with just the Dedicated Server running. dcs.log dcs.log.old -
Thanks. Glad I could help. In general it seems 1. Something beats nothing obviously. I even had a situation where a marker tyre I had forgot to set to neutral owner was capturing a FARP when no other units in range. Quite unexpected. 2. Armor beats infantry 3. Armed beats unarmed 4. Count doesn't seem to matter. one infantry against 10 infantry is still evenly contested. Some surprising edge cases.. Unarmed static shipping containers and canvas tents seem to have magical powers that defend against even armed infantry. An orca whale static will capture a FARP. I guess that IS a killer whale after all. Or even an aggressive cow set to a coalition.

@Grimes I had seen some behaviors in the past that made me suspect there is a hierarchy. There is some kind of GetThreatLevel API that returns a number or something isn't there? I suspect they are getting that number and doing rock-paper-scissors. I made a test with FARPs. ME ownership neutral with various combinations of units in the capture range (ROE Hold fire so they don't immediately die). Here is what I saw. Test miz attached. Blue vs Red = winner ---------------------- tank vs tank = contested tank vs infantry = Blue tank vs truck = Blue truck no enemy = Blue infantry no enemy = Blue scout HMMWV vs lots infantry = Blue infantry vs more infantry = contested additional test not in screenshot: truck vs static container = contested infantry vs static container = contested static container no enemy = Blue truck vs static FARP Tent = contested infantry vs static FARP Tent = contested FARP Test vs no enemy = Blue truck vs static Bunker 2 = Red infantry vs static Bunker 2 = Red null capture_test.miz

correct as is RLWR Not Dispensing Programmed Chaff?
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to [HOUNDS] CptTrips's topic in Bugs and Problems
Fair enough, though I don't recall having all that much warning with that Osa I stumbled across. I guess it seemed that if it knew a radar was tracking me, and knew a missile was launched, and knew the launch was on the same heading as the tracking radar, then it didn't seem unreasonable to think that if the CWMS was set to auto that it would drop chaff. Oh well. War is Hell. As I said, now that I know it won't, fine. I don't appear to have been the only one to misunderstand that. As Admiki said, I learn something new every day. -
correct as is RLWR Not Dispensing Programmed Chaff?
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to [HOUNDS] CptTrips's topic in Bugs and Problems
I don't disagree, yet the option for auto flares was provided. The pilot can decide to enable it or not depending on his evaluation of cost\benefit. If I were a pilot, I'd want the option for chaff even if I decided to usually not enable it. When I fly with my boys, I generally keep CMWS on auto in transit in case something surprises me on my route I wasn't expecting. (Oh crap moment.) Once I near the BP I turn it to bypass to not get activated by my wingmen yeeting Hellfires. I like the option. Now that I know it won't auto dispense chaff, fine. I was just thinking CMWS had my back while I was trying to evade. Then the consensus was that it was intended to work, I just didn't have some setting right, so I wanted to know if that was true. It's all good. -
correct as is RLWR Not Dispensing Programmed Chaff?
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to [HOUNDS] CptTrips's topic in Bugs and Problems
Well, the exact same argument could be made for auto dispensing flares. You should already know where possible IR threats are and plan you attack so you are never in their threat envelop. And infantry should always have sufficient cover they don't need a helmet. Oh well. But in war, stuff happens. CMWS are for those "oh crap" moments when everything didn't go according to your set-piece plan. I'm not saying you mis-implemented the representation, just if I were a pilot, I'd like to have the option to configure auto chaff for the same kind of unforeseen situations that auto flares might be handy. Like when I first started looking into this I was crossing some mountains on the Cyprus terrain and found a Osa that had been tucked into a valley that hid it from my reconnoiter. It wasn't a SAM from 50km away but a SA-8 launching from 3km. In the moment I was busy looking for some cover to get small behind and was assuming it was dropping chaff as I heard it dropping flares. Only once I was frying to a crisp did I notice it hadn't dropped a single chaff. But Boeing,,,er Hughes didn't ask my opinion. Thanks for the info tho. -

[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to [HOUNDS] CptTrips's topic in Bugs and Problems
It's a complex system. I thought it should as well at first. Seems like an odd design choice (Boeing not ED). It would be interesting to understand the reasoning. I guess they figure radar missiles are far enough away you should have time to manually dispense. But at least I wasn't the only one confused. Apparently a ton of other people thought the same. -

[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to [HOUNDS] CptTrips's topic in Bugs and Problems
OK, thanks. That makes what I've seen make sense now. I was expecting something like that to be the answer but everyone was just telling me it should work, I was just doing it wrong so I wanted to make sure there wasn't a way to do it I was missing. -

[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to [HOUNDS] CptTrips's topic in Bugs and Problems
I just ran the same test again and kept CWMS on auto. Same result. I didn't record it because everything else was the exact same steps except for leaving CWMS on auto. I can if it would be helpful. Either I am missing some other piece of information or it is bugged. I can believe either. -
correct as is RLWR Not Dispensing Programmed Chaff?
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to [HOUNDS] CptTrips's topic in Bugs and Problems
Thanks. I was told that CMWS only controls flares and that RLWR controls the chaff dispensing. I usually left it on and had the same behavior. I turned it off for this test to avoid confusion. BTW, I can manually dispense the chaff program so I know the stores are ready to drop, they are just not dropping automatically. Just to double check, I'll try again with CWMS on auto. -

[HOUNDS] CptTrips posted a topic in Bugs and Problems
I had assumed this was just a training issue, but all the obvious stuff people told me to do has not seemed to have an effect. I checked RLWR was enabled. I have chaff armed. I have chaff set to program. I setup a test miz with a single SA-8. I am never seeing chaff automatically dispensed when a radar missile is launched at me. Am I missing something else?
