DCS: Marianas World War II

Very good to hear. DCS WWII stuff will always likely be a instant buy for me. -
DCS: Marianas World War II
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to NineLine's topic in DCS: Marianas World War II
Disappointed we saw even less warbird footage in the 2025 vid than we did 2024. Nothing WWII related mentioned in the QA I heard. No news on the F6F or Corsair. Nothing new added, seemed like ED wanted to start de-emphasizing them. Still on track? Abandoned? Delayed? Forgotten? Seemed to show the micro-clips of them in the 2025 section not in the "In development" section. Seemed to suggest targeted for 2025. Can any update be given? -
Or, and I'm just spit-balling here, improve the process to get needed aircraft into players hands at a more reasonable cadence, AND provide meaningful and timely progress reports and current best guess estimates to the waiting customer base to maintain interest and hope for the future. I know, crazy talk.

Building a plane model in DCS shouldn't take over twice as long as WWII lasted itself.

Some solution needs to be found. Waiting a decade per plane is just silly.

I think they should make it easier for mods to make some mid-fidelity WWII planes to fill all the vast gaping holes without having to wait decades for ED. No radars or other electronic systems. They don't have to exhaustively model every nut and bolt and hydraulic hose in the wheel well. That isn't really necessary to me. Good readable cockpit (doesn't need to be clicky), Good flight model. That's all I need. But yeah, I was disappointed at how little I saw in the 2025 vid for WWII. They showed even less than 2024. We are going backwards. They can't make a Zero because they don't have every last government stamped design document personally signed by Yamamoto, but they can go make an F-35 based on rumors they heard around the bar at the O'Club? SMDH.

Box select tool for mission editor
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to Zakky2k's topic in DCS Core Wish List
See, I was going to say that but resisted. FYI, I do believe the DCS web-based Mission Editor beta might allow that function. I'll have to go check them out again. -
Box select tool for mission editor
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to Zakky2k's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Nice improvement. Sadly it misses a chance at becoming a true super power. I want to drag select a set of stuff in one miz and copy\paste it into another miz of the same map. I was kinda hoping that would just magically be included. Maybe next patch. -
Confused about fusing
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to [HOUNDS] CptTrips's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
OK figured it was a bug. Sadly that is the default setting if a noob doesn't touch anything so that is not a edge case. It's the default case. lol. Luckily for my I use a delay anyway because I drop at point blank alt to hit something so I need a sec to exit he blast. -
I was trying to practice dive bombing in the Spit. I was using the default bomb fusing options for the 250 lbs eggs. I was seeing puffs of smoke from the impacts, but no detonation. Tried dropping from alts ranging from 8k to 100ft. I found I had to have at least a 1 sec delay on the nose fuse for the bombs to detonate. I was assuming 0 sec delay meant detonate on impact. Does it instead mean disable the bomb? Or is this a bug?

FLAK does not engage enemy air units
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to Red_Camarada's topic in Bugs and Problems
In what way is it broken? I'm currently using flak in a mission and not seeing any problem, but my mission is mid-day. Are you referring to twilight conditions? I've noticed all the optically targeting AD engaging at about 1/2 range in low vis. Here is a test. Both fighters and bombers are working for me. Using both Flak 41 and 18. I tested in both SP and local server. test flak.miz test flak 2.miz -
If you could have 1 WW2 attack plane module, what would it be?

What Maps / Terrains are recommend for playing WW2 Warbirds?
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to v2tec's topic in DCS: The Channel
DSC WWII has not been shown a lot of love by ED. It will always be a secondary market to their modern jet and rotary wing content. That said, there are upcoming releases for Mag3's Corsair (Including a CV and WWWII PAC AI assets) and also a ED F6F. There is talk of ED having additional WWII assets for PTO, but it is unclear if that is going to be added to the existing WWII assets pack or a separate one. No idea on timeline on those. Hoping between now and summer 25. but who knows. No ETA has been announced as far as I know. I'm hoping DCS WWII get get a bit of a re-birth at that point. If you want to dabble in some WWII now, I'd look at some of Reflected Simulations SP campaigns to get some practice and have some fun while you are waiting. That will probably entail The campaign, the warbird the campaign was made for, probably Normandy 2.0, and probably current WWII asset pack. But pick the campaign first and get the minimum of what the campaign needs. His campaigns get very good reviews and its a good way to get your stick time in while waiting for more WWII activity to pickup. There are also a couple of servers like Project Overlord and Wolfpack you might want to try out too, but you'd probably enjoy it more after getting some practice with a campaign first, IMHO.. $0.02. -

WWII updates in the coming patch?
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to Cool-Hand's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Well, I get they they are up to their armpits in alligators right now. I get that things have to take their turn and you can't do everything at once and resources are finite. There are, however, two modules that will eventually be ready for EA. The Corsair and the F6F. I'm sure ED realizes at that time these back-burner questions about support will come to fore front when they try to sell two new modules. They will be difficult to ignore if they want sales. So I expect them to have formed a clearer vision of their path in WW2 support that can be communicated to players at that time. It would bound to be unhelpful to modules sales if they had no believable answers and start showing some proof. If you want me to buy two new WW2 modules, you'll have to be able to show me ED is going to turn a new leaf on giving WWII genre at least a consistent portion of the overall development time and a clear specific roadmap ahead might look like. WW2 doesn't need to be at the top of ED's priorities, but it does need to feel like a first-class citizen of the franchise as much as rotary at least. -
How to make AI ground units "see" each other
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to MantaMax's topic in Mission Editor
I haven't tried this, not sure if it fits your needs, but might be worth looking at. : https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3338671/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR3exlDipExKknwFUDT1eOn0ymNEESMost_RdILD6MNabdxxh6oZnlANr8s_aem_1G8u7GRH0xDgvHTKuPrYsA -
If there are future new assets to be added for the Pacific, it would be a good time to review and normalize a lot of this.
-
Although it could be argued the separating imparts the info that there is a significant difference in range between the two groups and one group uses time or alt set fused exploding shells and the other group doesn't. The difference in not meaningless, but whatever. $0.02.
-
OK. Not worth arguing over. In that case, my suggestion would be listing them all under (whatever) the same in the Asset Pack unit listing I quoted from. Just to make consistent with what they see in the ME. $0.02.
-
Minor nit-pick. In the WWII Asset Pack Unit List these are listed as : AAA M45 Quadmount QF 3.7-inch AA gun 37 mm gun M1 AA guns 8.8 cm Flak Gun 41 Bofors 40 mm gun - Free 8.8 cm Flak Gun 18 - Free 8.8 cm Flak Gun 36 8.8 cm Flak Gun 37 2 cm Flak 30/38 Which seems correct to me. In the ME they are all listed as "AAA". If I understand correctly those have different meanings.

I was all excited. Sadly it is not a secret addition that slipped in. You can set it, built still launches as AI. nullnull null null

WWII TOE? Convoys? Recon\ Assault Columns?
[HOUNDS] CptTrips posted a topic in DCS: WWII Assets Pack
Over in the modern world someone had put together a great resource for how to configure reasonably realistic unit combinations for various formation types. Anyone seen something similar for WWII? In particular, I was wondering what a Supply convoy, recon column, heavy assault column should look like. (Of course constrained by what we have available.) Like a supply convoy. Trucks I got. I worked that part out for myself. Would it have armor at the front? Or rear? Or both? Or nothing? Or jeeps? Would it bring any kind of AA along with it? Do we have something close to what they might have used for air defense in a column? Or would they simply hope for air cover? Always learning. Thanks in advance, CptTrips- 1 reply

Is Late Activation/Group Activate broken?
[HOUNDS] CptTrips replied to Mikkall's topic in Mission Editor Bugs
"All (or Part) of Coalition in Zone" (Can't remember if I heard problems about that recently. Sounds familiar.) As a test can you refactor that? I don't have it open, but is there a simpler one like "GroupInZone" and just specify it? That would separate whether it is the activate or the condition.
