I was wrestling with a similar problem for days. Countless freezes and crashes, sometimes shutting my PC down completely. Initially I thought it was because I’d moved my DCS folder to a new drive and had made some sort of error during the transfer process. I even went for a completely clean install of DCS and ran at vanilla settings. Still got freezes. That led me to conclude it wasn’t the sim. In the end I updated my MB BIOS and that cured it. Not a single crash or freeze in 2 days. I have a ROG Strix Z790-F gaming WiFi MB.

That’s interesting. I’ve not noticed that thus far, I had problems with centering using the Pi Tools XR and quad views, but switching back to mbuccia cured that, although you do need to have the headset on and centred when DCS starts or you could have centering issues ( spent several frustrating days sorting that one out last year). Just spent a day chasing VR settings in DCS. I had it running extremely well but foolishly didn’t note my settings. Schoolboy error. I moved my install to a new larger drive and had problems with continual crashes in VR so started tweaking the settings. Sorting the pagefile solved the crashes and the I spent the next 2 days trying to regain the clarity I recalled that I had in VR. Eventually I got back to where I was. Not sure what others have experienced but with shadows set to anything but flat the whole experience for me is one of blurry and shimmering ground textures. With flat enabled the ground textures are incredibly sharp. I too followed the tally mouse settings, he produces some excellent stuff. Not a hope in hell I could 90FPS using the settings in his video. I can only assume it’s the 5090 that’s allowing that as I have a more powerful CPU but with a 4090 and a Pimax Crystal. I was using MSAA x2, but am now in the DLAA and DLSS camp. Using his settings and running at 120hz capped to 60 was very stable but the ground textures with shadows to default setting doesn’t do it for me. Switching to flat just makes the whole VR experience more enjoyable. I recalled that when I switched to flat shadows the first time in VR it was a bit of a eureka moment. I use quad VR and Pimax XR with settings at native res and 150% in QV, I run the Crystal at 72Hz. Generally no stutters unless flying over very large cities like Cairo or the Marianas map at low level. The latter was particularly bad using my old MSAA setting but has improved noticeably with DLAA and DLSS.

I too had been suffering similar woes after transferring my DCS install to a new hard drive. I'd spent a couple of days trying to figure out what was wrong and stumbled upon this thread. I definitely had the same crashing problems. Tried uninstalling Tacview but it didn't cure it. For me it was the pagefile size on the new drive. In retrospect I think I'd been labouring with a pagefile that was too small for years. But this thread was the catalyst for my own personal lightbulb moment. Cheers Paul

Which VR headset do you primarily use for playing DCS?
PaulXKRS replied to NineLine's topic in Virtual Reality
Pimax Crystal, Pimax XR, quadviews FR with eyetracking. Native res supersmapled to 120%. -
Disable or uninstall OXRTK if you are using quad views and uncheck Track the eyes position in DCS if you have eye tracking enabling in your headset ( I use a Pimax Crystal).

I recommend leaving the eye tracking in DCS off. Use the Pimax eye tracking. I found that enabling the eye tracking in DCS reduces image sharpness. Yes, definitely. This was news to me as well, although if you used quad views before then I think you had to zero OXRTK settings as part of the set up process. Every day is a school day in VR...

Installation of FC (Flaming Cliffs) 2024 is not being recognised
PaulXKRS replied to IcerCRO's topic in General Bugs
Yep, exactly the same problem here. I have a bunch of FC3 planes but the module is greyed out and won’t install, or if it is installing I cant see it and the next time I start up I get the same thing. 5 modules awaiting installation but nothing in the files to install window on the launcher. -
Great piece of work. Does what it says on the can

Just a quick check. You did turn the events on for DCS in the HF8 software. They are all off by default. -
HF8 haptic gaming pad dcs not working
PaulXKRS replied to Swiss-Sim's topic in Controller & Assignment Bugs
What an absolute PITA this was to get running. 7 hours….. exported the game file to my DCs saved games. Shut down the HF8 software. Started DCS. In cockpit. Alt tab to my saved games folder. Opened the HF8 software Imported the file back into the HF8software. Started a take off, about a 3rd of the way down the vibration kicked in. No idea if it was file import export or starting the HF8 software from within the cockpit but it’s now working… Why do they make this stuff so difficult…. Ok. Forget the file importing and exporting. You need to start the sim first then start the NLR software, then open the DCS settings from the within the HF8 program. I started it when i was in the cockpit. It really was as simple as that. Guys, Looking for some advice here. I use JoyPr0 to assign settings to all my aircraft in DCS. The default install setting is C:\users\yourname\saved Games\DCS. All the config settings are in the Config\Input folder within the DCS folder…Except 2 DCS_AJS37 and DCS_F4E. Both of these folders sit in the root saved games folder, for some reason. Will a refresh update these folders as well or do I need to do something different? Thanks Paul

Yes, I sort of stumbled upon that by accident. Interestingly VR necksafer is now working again, previously I had to disable it because the hanger that loads with the main menu was upside down. Not sure if that is related to the change, but good to get Necksafer back again, makes looking at the side panels in the cockpit so much easier.

Guys, I've read that few people are having a problem with the in game toolkit not appearing. I'm running the stable version and using the MT shortcut for DCS. I also use Open Composite. Open up Open composite. Click on configure. You should see your DCS icon in there, probably sitting under Open Composite. Right click on the icon and select 'Use Default Runtime' That's it. You should now be able to use the tool in game to tweak settings again. Cheers Paul

Guys, I've had DCS installed for may years but have never really had the time delve into the depths of learning an aircraft in detail. Initial forays into VR were less than satisfying. Fast forward a couple of years and I now have a Reverb G2 and a newly purchased RTX 4090, then multithreading came along plus XR Composite. here we go... I've been tweaking again. Almost a fulltime hobby when it comes to VR settings. Had a few issues with the multithreading exe. This is what I discovered after much tweaking and fiddling. Set the WMR pixel density setting to 150% Set the open XR settings to 100% no sharpening, sharpening set to CAS. Motion reprojection set to on and capped at 45 FPS in the in game open XR menu Open Composite off Native XR default line added to the DCS.exe MT shortcut. DCS settings in game pretty much as per the gamersbynight web page. I assumed that setting the pixel density to 150% would kill the frame rate. Nope, not a bit. No change at all . My processor is an i7-10700k @ 3.80GHz Next problem was XR Neck safer, could not get it to work. Steps I took. Use Native OpenXR. Reactivate XRNS Open XR API layer in the XRNS program ( this was deactivated to avoid the upside-down VR menus, but it looks like that is resolved and or fixed by using native OpenXR). Start XRNS before WMR (not sure if this important or not, still need to try the alternatives) Into WMR and hit the dcds.exe mt shortcut. 46 FPS all day long in the free flight missions, even flying low over the Marianas Islands. the gamechanger for me was the 150% setting in WMR. Everything in the cockpit is now laser sharp and crystal clear. Right, I'm off to kick the tyres and light the fires. Cheers Paul

OpenXR Guide - Deprecated - This time for real (▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿)
PaulXKRS replied to nikoel's topic in Virtual Reality
This has been a complete game changer for me. A few niggles to start with but a fresh install cured those problems. The difference has been jaw dropping. I have a win 10 machine with an i7-10700k processor running at 3.8Ghz, 32GB of Ram and an RTX3080 graphics card. Reverb G2. The Marianas was a no go for me as the frame rate dropped too much, other areas were ok, but Syria was also challenging and that was running at 0.7 render scale with MR on and moderate settings in the graphics. Now I'm getting between 30 and 45 FPS with most settings on high and 100% render in OXRTK with NIS upscaling and MR running by default. Which. if I understand all this wizardry correctly, is an in-headset equivalent of 60-90 in the headset... Unbelievable difference. Kudos to all involved. Cheers Paul
