Fine... in a training scenario. In War scenario - like 99% of the missions we fly, surely the ability to kill twice as much armour would outweigh the cost of buying some new lasers? I seriously doubt a laser costs as much as a MBT.
-
I don't understand why I have to buy lockon AND flaming cliffs 3. I already bought several DCS world modules. Why should I have to buy 2 games to play one of them? This is dodgy.

It works perfectly for me. I think you are doing it wrong, you don't need to go back to the internet / server list, just click "connect to IP" from LAN.
-
Workaround: When you first start DCS world multiplayer, click CANCEL instead of CONNECT. Then change the source in the top right from "INTERNET" to "HISTORY" (or "LAN"). Then Click "login" in top right. You can now connect by IP to your favourite server. Explanation: It's crashing when it tries to refresh the master list of servers (don't know why but I'm going to say poor programming). Doing the above means it doesnt refresh the master list of servers.

He's not asking how to do it, he's asking WHY we have to do it.

Whenever I am in your server if I tab out to join teamspeak I get disconnected. Doesn't happen on other servers. Doesnt seem to happen if I am ground commander.
-
I think this happens to me as well. it would be nice to have some feedback from the team/ testers
-
Never mind, it was because of the expanded viewdistance mod
-
Hi, Anyone any idea how to fix this error? Objects clip seems screwed up so when it is close to the camera parts of it are not drawn. Affects all vehicles (A10, SU25, ground vehicles in external view) and also the ground plane when seen from cockpit
-
This happens a lot in multiplayer
-
Seconded. Definitely happens a lot more often in the newest update 1.2

Radio Patch for DCS v1.1.1.1 v1

Anyone tell me how to install in DCS world? -
...because it was implicit in the nature of a thread about flight simulators. At short range. Not capable of realistic combined arms. Wrong, my old X4 940 running at stock can handle arma2 at full (10k)view distance (in singleplayer it can even handle every setting except antialiasing on max) Wrong again. Vegetation is rendered to the full distance, grass is drawn at a low lod/ blended in to terrain to give impression of grass at distance. They made an "army specific game" around doom back in the day... Nah. It just looks pretty at close range. It can't handle the view distance required for realistic combined arms sims while looking pretty. Developers of engines make big claims. Without seeing this engine running at a suitable viewdistance then I can't believe you. The cryengine isn't magic. It can't force GPUs to draw more triangles than they are capable of. It can't keep that complexity AND draw out to even 10km, let alone flight simulator distances.
-
You haven't demonstrated that. Show some video of it running with a large draw distance *With units visible in the distance*. In previous games using this family of engine if draws the background at a low lod but enemies are not drawn until within a certain range. I simply don't believe it can draw large distances with enemies visible and remain playable unlike say, the engine used in Arma3, or DCS. -Edit- If it's not capable of flight simulation then what on earth was the point of bringing it up? Waste of time.
-
realistic armour penetration and damage modelling is the most important imo
-
As I said, it looks pretty but the draw distance limitation in the engine stands. It can't and doesnt draw things as far as needed for a flight sim or even as far as arma. The whole thing is designed to pop things up.

More hints for OP: When looking for SAM threats, think about the layout of the blobs you are seeing on the TGP. If there are 3 or 4 in a widely spaced line, closest to your own troops, they are almost definitely a line of tanks. Short range IR SAM or AAA defence usually sits a few hundred metres behind them, a single shilka, sa9 or sa13 usually. Further back from the front line, or off to the side is usually artillery, which again have their own distinctive layout of a line of artillery and another line of smaller blobs, the ammunition vehicles and command post. Further back still are the medium to long range sams. Again single units or a distinctive group depending on what they are (EG BUK has at least 3 vehicle, TOR 2) Another tip is to watch the TAD for friendly SPIs when they call on the radio that they are engaging or detected AAA/ SAM. You can hook their spi and slave the TGP to have a look. Also, when you hear a missile launch, if it wasn't from friendly airplane then look at the direction from the Missile Warning System and see if you can look out the cockpit to where it came from, and identify the general launch area. You can then get your TGP over there to have a closer look.

Ugh, we don't want any cryengine shenanigans. It doesn't draw enemies more than a few hundred feet away until you zoom in on them. It looks pretty but its no use for realistic games.

Radio Patch for DCS v1.1.1.1 v1
Gisen replied to Speed's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Dcs world Does this work/ is this needed in DCS world? If so is it installed the same way? Thanks! -
I'm sorry, but it is entirely on topic. The OP wanted to know pros and cons of buying trackir. I told him/her one con, a fairly large one IMO. And it is also necessary, accurate and verifiable. There is plenty of evidence of what they did, even DCS have stated that they were pressured into only supporting trackir.
-
The problem with TrackIR is that naturalpoint is a dodgy, anticompetitive company who use shady business practices (E.G. trying to force games companies to ONLY support their brand of head tracking and to actively suppress others). If it wasn't for that I'd have bought trackIR. Freetrack with wii remote is better if you have the patience to set it up properly.
-
Still I would also like to have direct support of freetrack and other control options in DCS, or at the very least not the current "block everything that isn't trackIR" which is at best anticompetitive and at worst illegal depending on country. The funny thing is that I was going to buy a trackIR until they pulled this nonsense.
