MiG-21 used plain water for AB?!!
Maulkin replied to Vekkinho's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Well you certainly cannot 'crack' water into their individual atoms of hydrogen and water by simply heating it up. All you do is transform water into water vapour and that is it. It is not enough to break the covalent bonds between the atoms or we would have been doing that long ago to create an incredibly cheap fuel source. -
Lockon feud: 25T pilots call A10 pilots a noobs
Maulkin replied to mcnab's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
How about insane firepower with multiple gunpods and guided munitions? How about the anti-radiation missles that the A-10 is without? How about the Su-25 and Su-25T speed? It can almost attain Mach 1. By the time the A-10 reaches the target area the Su-25 has already been there and back and the pilots are in the barracks drinking vodka. :D -
I have spoken with RL fighter pilots and much to my surprise, they told me that it was not a good idea to engage a assault helicopter because you only had one chance to engage the helicopter, which would be a bad target due to the fact it would be close to the ground making it difficult to get a good radar lock, and does not generate alot of heat (compared to another jet) so an IR lock would not be optimal. If you attacked and missed then you would be giving that helicopter, which can turn on a dime, your six which would make a great target for a heatseeker against the sky.

Is this template available somewhere? I noticed there is a link on LockOnFiles.com but the link is broken, and I also saw a Su25 template in Goon's folder on the FTP site but the archive is broken. :(

You link appears to be broken... does anyone have a mirror?

Yay I figured it out. It is yet another case of RTFM (or Read the F*cking Manual), where it clearly states you have to set the pinky button as either a command or as a shift button. Now I have all that figured out I need to plan how I am going about this. Going to take a very long time I am afraid and even longer to try and remember it. ;) Thanks alot KonKussion for your rapid responses and help with this! :)

Gah your right. I actually locked the joystick from twisting as I do have pedals. Tested the twist and discovered that is in fact rotary2. So now regarding the pinkie switch......how does one use that with the SST software?
-
Actually everything in that screen shot was configured manually by me. I had to delete the initial stuff that my old Sidewinder had, then selected the X52 under the DEVICE, then clicked on trim rudder and selected CHANGE, and from the drop down menu I chose the rotary2. I actually tested rotary2 with the 'target specified size' to see if I could get any response and saw nothing. Then I tested the same function with rotary0 and rotary1, which maps to the two turn-wheels on the throttle, and it worked fine. I just cant figure out where rotary2 is on the HOTAS....
-
So my buddy took pity on my pathetic setup (I was using a Microsoft 8-button Sidewinder) and he sent me his old X52 HOTAS. So here I am with alot more buttons to worry about but I have run into two problems: 1) I am told the best thing to do is only assign the axis, slider, and rotaries in the sim, but use the SST software for everything else, so that seemed like a good place to start. Well I have managed to assign all of them but I cannot seem to be able to find where 'rotary2' is: I have flicked everything and turned everything and cannot seem to located it. I thought it might be the mouse-wheel-like thingy on the front of the throttle quadrant but that does not seem to be it. Anyone know? 2) Also, I have read that I can use the 'pinky-switch' to double up on each button for each mode. I assign a function to the 'Mode 1 + Pinkie' mode but when I try it out (ie hold pinky switch and press button), it does not appear to work. I can confirm by testing it with the clutch button, in that the MFD shows that nothing it assigned to the button. Is there a trick to this part?

Yeah I was going to say, it would be alot nicer if the Hog and Frog had heatblur at low speed with high rpm. :) And that is pretty easy to see.

real engine startup in Black-Shark??
Maulkin replied to black-ninja2007's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Wasn't there an AVI released some time back that showed the startup sequence and it took about 10 minutes to go through the checklist? I was asleep by the end of it. -
Some things never change ;) http://www.2gvsap.org/chief/tracks/spitfirelowpass.wmv

I think "SHIFT+N" is the default key combo to turn off a warning. But keep in mind it will only turn off one warning. You will likely have to hammer that key combo a number of times to turn them all off. EDIT: bah Ironhand beat me by one minute! ;)

Is it normal that I get no sound when using Orbiter, even from the launch pad? Is there something I need to do?

where can i find a shuttle texture like that in the picture?

TrackIR in real life (well sorta, but damn cool)
Maulkin replied to NEODARK's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Considering where he is landing it is more likely that the camera would have gotten shaken around so much as to not make it worthwhile including in the film, which is why it was cut. -
So did this ever make it out?

His post had nothing to do with the Avro. Pity the project was dismantled such that not a single part of the prototype was left unscrapped for fear the technology would fall into the wrong hands. Instead they decided to build the missle defense system....*sigh*. The largest existing piece of the Avro (the nose section) can be seen at the Ottawa Aviation Museum, as well as the missle that was its replacement.

That last one is a real stunner and kinda makes me want to ask what was on the empty pylons.... um... and where are they now? ;)

YAY! Thanks for the link! Just love that track. Please let him know how much I appreciate his work. I currently have it playing in an endless loop here at home at max volume.... puts me in the mood to do some mud moving with my Su-25... ;)

I was so impressed with the "Navy" flic G_A did for TheCombatSim.com, that I put it on my sandisk and brought it to work. I showed it to a number of people that know very little about flight sim's, LOMAC, or even military aircraft in general, but every one of them exclaimed about halfway through that they thought it was a film of real-life military scenes and not images that are part of a flight simulator. I love the music that goes with that film BTW and wish I could get it in MP3 format so I could burn it to an audio CD and listen to it in the car. I saw that a fellow named "BioDriod" was credited with the music track, but when I tried to google him to hopefully find a link to an MP3 I came up with very little. :(

Tired of waiting for a Harrier in LOMAC?

VVS 504th BomberWing Recruiting!
Maulkin replied to 504bigtonka's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I think I will have to sign up for this. I have been a mumover for some time with the assorted bombers that are available with IL2FB and I fly for the mixed regiment 2GvSAP for that sim (http://www.2gvsap.org - known as Chief there). I have messed around alot with mudmoving offline in LOMAC using both the frog and the rook and I plan on continuing with the Black Shark addition in the future. I have struggled with using fighters (the Mig and Su-27 being my favorites) once in a while and I even had one of you guys give me a bit of a tutorial online once which was alot of fun. :) My only concern is that I am located 'across the pond' on the east coast of Canada so there might be an issue of time zones making scheduling a problem. Let me know if it is.
