  1. I mean, same. I do want to kick MiG arse with the older Phantom Variant... see, War Thunder has a trash tier F-4E and MiG-21/23. I'm switching to DCS because I wanted to fly a proper Phantom like I used to with FSX and SF2. Oh, and did you see my response to your missile question?
  2. I'm honestly a little surprised that they don't just release the first "late" variant of the F-4E as preorder, and add the early variant in afterwards in a patch, to be honest. I wouldn't mind that... the late variant has a similar RWR to the A-10 speaking from memory.
  3. yeah, it has an audio feed RWR that feeds you the freek of the Radar locking you as an audio byte.
  4. Ayo, welcome back Czech! Also, I'm a bit surprised AN/APR-36 is causing issues, seeing as it's just a digitized AN/APR-25 and there's already versions of it in various mods... Don't later versions of F-4 Phantom carry AN/ALR-78?
  5. It's still funny to think about. I know that it'd never happen, but still. Somehow, the thought of a crew chief having to deal with his pilot coming up with the most stupid, hare-brained schemes to put *thing* on his aircraft amuses me a great deal.
  6. "So we already use an adapter for the ALQ-131, right?" "Yes?" "And it can technically carry bombs too, right?" "Where is this going?" "Can you put bombs on the sparrow nacelles?" "Sir, I can't do that." "Chiefy, I don't pay you to think. I want that MAU-12 Special Weapons Adapter on my Sparrow Nacelle, and I want it rigged to carry a Mark 82. I don't care what balls you have to break to do it, but I want it done now." "Sir, you're the reason why half the squadron maintenance staff have left. I'm only here because my EAS date is in three weeks." Is my list of ordnance posted on page 1 accurate, incidentally?
  7. Don't think so. I believe they just threw a couple of bog rolls in, flew over some suspected VC camps, and ditched out the leaflets. Ah yes, the Zot Box. The Reformers' best friend for the "LASER GUIDED BOMBS DON'T WORK" argument.
  8. You called? 69-0304 to 69-0307, 69-7201-7220, except 7218 was never delivered and they gave us 7234 instead. All Block 43 F-4Es, no TISEO, no slats, DMSQ Phantoms. That's what I remember off the top of my head. Most were retrofitted into F-4G standard and the one we have in our museum is an F-4G that they handed over after much negotiation.
  9. Yep, we didn't use Agile Eagle. We had the opportunity. we didn't because... I don't know. We didn't procure sparrows or any Sidewinders above the B-variant either, our F-4s were fully meant to be unguided bomb trucks. Oh, and- would skins that I add show up server-side? or would they be client only?
  10. 1979 and earlier should be OK. Just note that earlier 1F-4C-1 manuals and earlier 1F-4E-1 manuals have two or three different specs. One for F-4s with blown flaps and no slats, one for F-4s with blown flaps and no slats and no gun nose, and one for F-4s with no blown flaps but slats. F-4E cockpit and layout is different to F-4C/D. The larger nose also changes the aerodynamics slightly (more streamlined) and changes the sensors inside (smaller radar set that scans a wider area at once instead of a smaller more precise area as well as a smaller dish).
  11. Also, for OP @NoodI, a full, comprehensive list of everything I know for A2G and A2A that was ever put on a USAF F-4E at any point: Air to Air Missiles Iron Bombs Guided Munitions Cluster Munitions Napalm and other incendiaries Rockets Anti-Radiation Missiles Special Munitions Targeting Pods Gun Pods ECM Pods & Countermeasure Dispensers Fuel Tanks Conclusions Thanks to being as big as a flying fortress and being pretty tall, if it could attach to a NATO standard hardpoint, it could probably be strapped on somehow to an F-4E. The Israelis, Greeks, Turks and South Koreans put some funky new weapons on their F-4Es. The F-4EJ and EJ Kai do not exist because I said so, and I am the Most Trustworthy Source In The World (real). F-4Es in Iran carry funky Iranian weaponry like M117s mounted on MIM-23 HAWK and AIM-54 PHOENIX booster assemblies, funky laser-guided rocket bombs and even AGM-65 Maverick/GBU-12 Paveway seeker heads mounted on HAWK/Phoenix boosters. Allegedly capable of carrying Soviet weaponry but I've yet to see anything proving that to be the case. From what I know nobody and certainly no multi-billion-dollar-net-worth corporation has yet developed a toilet, dog, or any other unusual, funny and quirky Comedic Ordnance to be dropped from an F-4, apart from aforementioned Leaflet bomb allegedly filled with toilet paper. I have added notes and comedic weapons/ordnance as I am a bored individual.
  12. Thanks for the answers! If you ain't ammo, you ain't #@$&! was anyone insane or cheeky enough to slap bombs on the sparrow recesses using the MAU-12 adapter for the ALQ-131 ECM pod? Also, to be clear, you never slapped AIM-9Ls on your F-4Es? I was under the impression limas were loaded past ~'89-91 in the sunset years of the Phantom. Also, could the F-4E load or not load HARMs or Standard ARM on the wing hardpoints?
  13. You've heard of Operation Peace Echo and Operation Peace Rhine. Get ready for Operation Peace Wife I.
  14. that does beg the question... how do DCS skins work, anyway? Sorry if that sounds stupid- I've literally never had a DCS module before and the F-4E is my primary motivating factor for a purchase.
  15. There is a lack of Korean F-4s. I will fix this with my face. Voila: *proceeds to use face to insert Korean F-4 pictures* Also, here's some Egyptian ones.
  16. Found this somewhere- I think it was tumblir?- and thought you'd like it. Enjoy.
  17. Hi, a few questions- Did you guys ever load Lima or Papa-4/Papa-5 sidewinders? If a targeting or ECM pod is loaded into Station #4/Port-side Fore Sparrow Nacelle, can you load a Sparrow into the opposite one at Station #6? Finally, does the USAF condone the use of TERs + AIM-9 Launchers with the double 3-inch spacer, or does that constitute a gross OSHA violation that should definitely never, ever, ever be done unless you're a. insane or b. Australian, much like the F-111's full bombload of all 8 hardpoints with 500lbs bombs on MERs?
  18. Dear @Czechnology, Missiles is a pretty simple question. AIM-7E-2 and AIM-7Fs will be our mainstays. Maybe AIM-7M/P if we're real lucky for the later one. Not really that reliable compared to SPAMRAAMs and MICAs, but they'll do, especially for the Cold War Era. As for winders, AIM-9B/J/N/P/P-4/P-5. AIM-9P-4 and -5 are the all-aspect sidewinder variations and can be differentiated from the rest of the Juliet-November-Papa family by their all-metal heads, much like the German JULI upgrade mating AIM-9L heads to AIM-9Js- note however that these do NOT have the same capabilities as the L. SLightly less G tolerance and slightly worse seeker that's more sensitive to flares and less to planes. AIM-9L/M is a definite possibility for the later F-4E mod in the works. If I recall correctly, if we don't get the double-inch spacers, we're going to have issues with clearance trying to mount the AIM-9s with a TER below them, but with the double 3-inch spacer this is more than possible. Interesting to note however is that the USAF, due to carriage and safety restrictions, may not have engaged much in this ability. As for A2G missiles, expect stuff like Shrikes (in their 8 or 9-odd variants made for different Radar bands) Mavericks (early ones) and Bullpups, as well as possibly anything that China Lake or their Air Force counterparts decided to test by slapping on an F-4E. Full suite of guided bombs like Walleyes and GBU-15 (all variants except the "LARGE WING" Extended Range variants, which have carriage issues on the F-4E's outboard pylons and therefore can only have two mounted). What's interesting is that this F-4 is the only one cleared to carry the 3000 pounder TV-guided GBU-9 HOBOS Glide Bomb, which is, as they say in the business- a heccin' chonker. THINGS NOT TO EXPECT: Popeyes are Israeli and aren't mounted on the F-4E as standard. AGM-78 Standard ARMs have been seen on some Israeli F-4Es but I'm uncertain if those are post-market modifications or not, since they're notorious for %#@&ing with their F-4's weapons loadouts. Sidewinders on the sparrow hardpoints... uuggggh. If we're getting USAF TO F-4Es then don't expect any of the "funny funny Iranian" weapons, such as the M117 with a Hawk booster slapped on it, or their all manner of weird and quirky designs, such as the TV/laser-guided Phoenix/Hawk with a Maverick/Paveway warhead strapped to it. There's been allegations thrown around that the F-4E could carry Matra Magics. I've never seen one do it. AIM-2000C IRIS-T, ASRAAM and AMRAAM are out of the question for a USAF F-4E, even in 1991. Maybe they might have tested it, but I don't think we're getting it regardless. AGM-65D Thermal mavericks are in the Manual, but I've never heard any F-4 pilots talk about carrying any. It could definitely carry them in its later variant with ARN-101 and DMAS but I'm not sure if it could actually use the Thermals channel or not. Laser-guided Mavericks are a Squid Thing and we don't talk about them Squids. Even so, Naval Phantoms cannot into multirole, since they don't have any guidance computers or equipment allowing them to carry the wide range of A2G Armament that the USAF Phantoms did. Yours, Mantis.
  19. By the looks of it and in FAQ, if I dismantle the answer: T.O. 1F-4E-1 (1975) for the earlier one, T.O. 1F-4E-1 (1986) + 1991 revisions and edits for the later one. Details for those who want it: For the F-4E '74, a post-order 556 aircraft, i.e. with a HOTAS system pinky switch and the A2G toggle thumb button, seems like it'll be the norm. From the mesh- AN/APR-25/36 + AN/APR-26/37 RHAW, and from the cockpit, the earlier bombing computer. This means that it won't have CCIP but will have a very good toss bombing/CCRP capability plus, of course, the nuclear toss-bombing capability standard on pretty much every US jet since the F-84G. Otherwise, you'll have to manually sight your bombs in by using the good ol' depressible mil sight. Expect early Mavericks- in stark contrast to the D-model, they simply aren't that good, since they have a tendency to go on the "Maverick Dance" and not actually lock, instead locking onto spurious bits of contrast or spazzing about like an electrified frog, but if you can lock them- expect results. 10 nautical mile seeker range and launch from about the same distance depending on conditions, but no ability to see through clouds, fog, adverse weather and smoke, unlike the D-model with the thermal channel. I'm unsure whether it'll have limited look-down capability from CAA (effective for about 3 nautical miles if you were to fly straight down, or for a little longer out to 5-7nm if at about a 10 degree depression) but it is confirmed that it will at least have TISEO. by 1974, AN/ALE-40 chaff dispensers (60 chaff, 30 flares) were standardized on most F-4s though I'm uncertain as to whether HEATBLUR will model in the flares since flares didn't come out until '78. 1978 marked an important upgrade for the F-4E since that's the year that it recieved both flares and an improved AN/ALR-69 RWR which acts pretty much like any other RWR- classifies by type and direction. The earlier set only gives you direction and leaves the rest to you to figure out what kind of radar's actually locking on, because it gives you the literal @*#$ing audio trace of the radar's EM emission. The '89-'91 "LATE" Phantom can only refer to the F-4E ARN-101, which was a comprehensive overhaul of its electronics suite that was started in about '79. That added a few dissipators and stuff onto the wings and tails of F-4Es (they look like little bumps) as well as removing older CCRP systems and adding a new bombing computer capable of CCIP and CCRP operation (DMAS). This F-4E would also carry the AIM-9L and AIM-7M, as well as Thermal Mavericks, Rockeyes, and all the other bells and whistles. Maybe AIM-9X, if they feel really generous, though I have yet to read a source saying that they carried them. Would be sweet (and funny) if it did.
  20. I've seen a bit of negativity surrounding the date of release due to the lack of news as well as about the variant, so I wanted to pump some positivity and hype back into the forums. I'm honestly pretty pumped for the F-4E and it's pushed me into the Big, Scary World of DCS and the world of No Mouse-Aiming(tm) and No Keyboard Control(c. 2008, Eagle Dynamics). Dear Heatblur, Thanks for putting out the F-4E! This module's been a motivating factor to get into DCS and I'm pleased as punch that you guys are making it. Thanks for putting out what is sure to be one sick-ass ride! The F-4E's been my favorite Phantom variant and probably by far the one that's the best as a multirole and one of the best for the air-to-air arena, equipped with TISEO, targeting pods, CAA, AIM-7s, AIM-9s and all the bells and whistles one could hope for. Back when I was a kid, the F-4 Phantom was one of my favorites- and I hope that this new module makes this plane a new favorite for a bunch of others too! I'm looking forwards to flying the most maneuverable, best-outfitted Phantom variant ever produced, and possibly the forerunner to the entire multi-role integrated sensors/weapons platform philosophy that we see in modern US Aircraft. The upgrade variants touted has got me pretty hyped! Overall, it looks like we're going to get pretty much the definitive F-4 Phantom- more so, I'd argue, than the USN variants that focused more on being purely interceptors and never managed the sheer level of upgrading and technological integration that the USAF did on their late-model E aircraft. I'm hyped as hell to use the AGM-65s on their first ever deployable platform, as well as using its air to air abilities and maybe experiencing the TISEO for myself. Sure, it's not perfect- The Mavs that we'll get will have a tendency to do the "Maverick Dance", and so will the walleyes and HOBOS- and the Pave Spike sure as hell isn't the best pod. CAA is nice to have but it sure as heck ain't pulse doppler, and not having HMCS like F-4S and F-4J is gonna be a be a bit of a drag- But damn you sir, I am an F-4E Sim Pilot and I shall be so till the day I die! You ain't s**t without Slats and a Gun! Godspeed, (Future) Spook Pilots!
