any idea how long the preorder period lasts?
-
Aussie here. 10PM on the 17th. As time traveler from the future I can confirm that the module is definitely good and proper In other news, I'm eager for this module. It's the other Jet released this year that I want that isn't the F-4E. In case you haven't noticed I may have a massive B-1R for truly multirole twin-seat aircraft

Think the F-15 Release is/will have an Impact

Probably, but then again, IMHO that's just a matter of you being the pilot. Imagine something like an F-5, F-100D or a sparrow-equipped F3H-2 in full fidelity where you have to take care of everything yourself, or worse- being the RIO! Horrifying! -
the build approval for the F-4EJs was far earlier than 1970, which is when the F-4Es slats were tested on the YF-4E.
-
no idea but aerodynamics weren't an issue. by that point in F-4E's career in Israel they were strike only and had more insane ordnance options e.g. sidewinders in the forward sparrow cells, extra countermeasure dispensures in the rear sparrow cells, that came about because the F-4s weren't using Sparrows anymore and were ground attack only. on Kurnass 2000s, the radar was different and they had those differences I mentioned earlier. other than that, not much. Certainly not enough to warrant a module; it'd be like adding an F-16C-40 as well as the C-50

Think the F-15 Release is/will have an Impact

4th gen fighters are unironically easier to learn to fly than the Phantom is. With the Phantom there's an assload more you have to worry about and no MFDs for easy mode switching. Flying an F-4E is to flying the F-15/F-16 as driving a high-performance manual car for drift races in Tokyo is to driving an automatic car for a drag race. There's a massive difference since in the case of the auto, a lot of work is taken carefor you already. on a more relevant note, I agree with everyone here. F-15E should ahve no real effect on F-4E release but I wouldn't be surprised if Heatblur delays release a bit to make sure they don't collide hype trains. -
I mean the agile eagle slats. the EJs did not recieve them as they are based on early F-4Es with MIDAS-4, no CCIP/CCRP (stripped out because treaty) and no Agile Eagle slats (they hadn't been invented yet)
-
The original F-4EJ is based on an early block F-4E pre-Slats and pre-Everything else that made the F-4E good, equipped with the MIDAS-4 Gun fume extractor, not the original RF-4C camera port that caused fume extraction issues on the original F-4E. The EJ Kais are mostly electronics retrofits of the earlier phantoms. They overall are heavier and have worse flight performance than the F-4Es used by the USAF and other nations, as all other nations at that point had slatted "soft" wing Phantoms as opposed to the "hard wing" EJs. The upgrade also adds back a lot of ground attack upgrades that were missing from the F-4EJ on initial production, as the aircraft was not equipped with the bombing computer that the F-4E had. It also includes the AN/APG-66J Radar, a Japanese license-production knockoff of the AN/APG-66(V)1 that equipped early F-16s.
-
The upgrade used was purely an adaptation done by the Israelis. It will never be an option for US Phantoms. The refuelling probes are quite literally ripped off the A-4, and at any rate, they'd ruin the Phantom's aerodynamics. Have fun refuelling from a boom.

I did the research @Salty Buckets; While the ARN-101/DMAS Upgrade packages did a lot to upgrade the F-4E's electronics capabilities, to the best of my research they did not add the AIM-7M Sparrow nor the electronics required to have the radar interface with its improved monopulse seeker. The AN/APG-120 radar is smaller, and while it is solid state to help stay intact even when a Vulcan in the nose is fired, it does not have compatibility with these missiles that the larger PD radars on British Phantoms were upgraded to do. To the best of my knowledge neither the F-4S nor F-4J in US service recieved such upgrades either. The only Phantoms upgraded to carry missiles with monopulse seekers are therefore either the UK Phantoms or F-4E/EJs in other countries that were later retrofitted with more advanced radars, such as AN/APG-65 (ICE/HELLAS) or AN/APG-66 (EJ Kai), which could fire these missiles in their original installtions on other more advanced aircraft. You misunderstand. 30 seconds not for the Fulcrum to be dead 30 seconds survival until the Fulcrum guns me down

Announcing the F-4 Phantom for DCS World!
Aussie_Mantis replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Agree. I'd buy a naval F-4 when it comes out, eventually. But I do like the F-4E more. My current hitlist is Mirage 2000, F-15E, Flaming Cliffs, F-4E, F/A-18. And today on the Mantis Show, I strap 15 7.62mm minigun pods on backwards to see if that decreases my takeoff run. -
Title. I don't see any modules discounted at the moment.
-
So what you're telling me is to never attempt BFM against a Gen 4? That's stupid. You're stupid. I will fight a MiG-29 in BFM. It'll be funny, trust me. I'm taking bets on 30 seconds post merge.

can't find a table but this might help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df-WR6AIezc

What should I keep the AoA at? I know unslatted F-4s fly differently but I hear that going over 20 is tantamount to suicide. NEEEERRRRDDDD. Also do you have any idea of how MiG-21 vs F-4 should go? Mate of mine really wants to fly MiG vs F-4E and it's all he talks about
-
We might??? They're used mostly for anti-infantry work. And yes, that is how they made it. Rejected A-4 cannon barrels from skyhawks and stuff 'em into the bomb.
-
Ah, that's peak Vietnam. They dispense golfball sized HE bomblets out the ass. It carries 508 of these things. Also, nice shot of some extended fuse Mk 82s. the fuses are made from burnt out Marine A-4 Skyhawk barrels, and seeing asthis Phantom has them, I think this one's flying out from a base down south like Da Nang or Tan Sonh Nhut, where there were a few Muhreen Skyhookers out and about.

It automatically interrogated friendly IFFs, but Combat Tree was the first to interrogate enemy IFFs so you could get a definite "Yep, that's definitely an enemy contact" signal bounced back. It really helps when you know without any doubt that that contact at 100nmi is definitely an enemy MiG-21 and not, say, an F-4 with a busted IFF transponder. They did technically have IFF, just not one interrogating enemy RADAR contacts, which is why they wanted Combat Tree to distinguish Unknowns and definite enemies. Really helps.
-
It's an issue with the pylons, you rip the bastards off or damage the winders because they smack into the rails while you're firing. Not pog. Technically, you can fire them at any speed, it's just that you want to make sure they clear properly. The Max G-load IIRC is around the same, you just don't want to be pulling that much. Sparrow G-force load should be about 4G FYI. Still waiting for someone to find the fake weapons Yo GJS; Did the UK RAF F-4s have any kind of air to ground ordnance apart from dumb bombs and dumb rockets? And did any RAF F-4s keep the old Royal Navy Low-Drag 1000lbs bombs in service, or were they gone by your time? Also, not sure if you answered this earlier or not, but did you have IFF on the old AN/APG-55 sets?
-
How dare you. Please sit down and wait while I write a 40,000 word essay on why this is a reflection on your general body odor and character.
-
Probably. They'll see "HIGH AOA" and try to do a low speed AOA fight against a MiG-21.
-
Throttle isn't the only weapon selector, though. Does the rear cockpit have a regular weapons selector?
-
Seconding this question. Also, does the WSO have the ability to override the pilot's weapons commands?
-
"Hey, so how many antennas we gotta put on that thing" "ALL OF THEM, CARMICHAEL! PUT ALL OF THEM ON!"
