This looks great, However, after about 10 minutes the game freezes requiring forced close. It's got something to do with the mods as I can fly around the Marianas Islands without issues when I load a mod free version. I've gone through all the install instructions and it all seems good, I'm wondering if its because I'm using the Open Beta MT? dcs.log

I'm running my ASRock Tachi 670E 7800X3D in their 1.21 Bios AGESA 1.0.0.6 and everything seems fine. But I'm not game enough to try going into bios and start tweeking, not that it needs tweeking, it plays DCS and stuff briliantly... https://www.thefpsreview.com/2023/05/05/amd-has-advised-motherboard-vendors-to-hold-off-on-rolling-out-bios-based-on-agesa-1-0-0-7-bios-firmware-after-its-discovered-to-be-a-buggy-mess/#:~:text=YouTube Channel-,AMD Has Advised Motherboard Vendors to Hold Off on Rolling,to Be a Buggy Mess&text=AMD has advised motherboard vendors to wait until its next, inclusion in their BIOS updates. -

AMD statement; We have root caused the issue and have already distributed a new AGESA that puts measures in place on certain power rails on AM5 motherboards to prevent the CPU from operating beyond its specification limits, including a cap on SOC voltage at 1.3V. None of these changes affect the ability of our Ryzen 7000 Series processors to overclock memory using EXPO or XMP kits or boost performance using PBO technology. We expect all of our ODM partners to release new BIOS for their AM5 boards over the next few days. We recommend all users to check their motherboard manufacturers website and update their BIOS to ensure their system has the most up to date software for their processor. Anyone whose CPU may have been impacted by this issue should contact AMD customer support. Our customer service team is aware of the situation and prioritizing these cases. https://www.extremetech.com/computing/amd-to-limit-soc-voltages-with-final-update-to-chip-burning-saga I also not ASRock have put out a new bios 1.21 for the Taichi with these notes; 1. Update AGESA ComboAM5 1.0.0.6. 2. Improve memory compatibility. 3. Optimize for Ryzen 7000X3D series processor. 4. Recommend for upgrade BIOS if 7000X3D processor is installed. -

Lots of motherboard manufacturers are releasing Bios's to address the X3D frying issue; https://www.tomshardware.com/news/preventing-ryzen-burnout-motherboard-makers-issue-new-firmware I note ASRock have released a beta one for the 670e Taichi (the mobo I'm getting) as well; 1. Optimize for Ryzen 7000X3D series processor. 2. Recommend for upgrade BIOS if 7000X3D processor is installed. -

A bit of a response from AMD; "We are aware of a limited number of reports online claiming that excess voltage while overclocking may have damaged the motherboard socket and pin pads. We are actively investigating the situation and are working with our ODM partners to ensure voltages applied to Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs via motherboard BIOS settings are within product specifications. Anyone whose CPU may have been impacted by this issue should contact AMD customer support." -- AMD Spokesperson to Tom's Hardware. https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-ryzen-7000-burning-out-root-cause-identified-expo-and-soc-voltages-to-blame I conject that there will be a fix via bios coming soon, In the meantime I'll be letting mine just run at stock until this is sorted. These CPU's are IMO pretty much overclocked by default. There's not much headroom like we saw in our old unlocked intel cpu's like my 4770k etc. So for me the gains by overclocking offer a poor risk vs reward result. The cache chips siting on top of the cpus compromise the cooling and it doesn't take muich of a voltage tweek to fry it. -

I did consider a gen5 m.2 but it's early days and the price is high heren in Australia. Given the mobo has 4 x gen4 slots and 3 x gen5 and if there's a "need" I can add in the Gen5/s in a couple of years when they are mainstream. For me coming from the world of SATA 6 SSD's the gen4 will seem like a new world. Regarding the RAM, I just went for 64 as I'm not realy being cost consciuos and just want the best within reason. I also know DCS seems to love RAM. Going from 16 to 32 in the old rig was very noticable at the time. My broad plan is to give it a refresh in 2025 with the 11800X3D 8ghz 16core or whatever they've got out as the last of this platform, gen5 may well be in that refresh and I guess a pcie5 GPU. I've found over the years, and I've been simming since the 1980's 8086's, that you can never have enough ram or storage I remeber memmaker,,, -

Just bit the bullet and ordered a whole new system based on 7800X3D and RTX4090. I only play in VR now and the poor old 4770k @4.4ghz since 2013 is having all sorts of issues. A big influence is the ability to pop in the latest and greatest in 2025 vs the Intel platform which is being replaced soon. But i can't complain, 10 years out of the CPU and mobo,,,, -
I got the OQ2 on Black Friday sale and am blown away by it, Only tried it on the HUEY and the Spitfire. Sitting in the cramped cockpit of the spit and looking around at the airframe which has a sense of mass is insane. I'll never be able to enjoy 2d again. Though coming from a 34 inch 3440x1440 monitor I do miss the crisper detail. The cockpit detail is great but distant objects rapidly blur. Sitting in the spit watching a B52 take off and climb away it soon blurs out. It'll make dog fighting near impossible as I can,t really figure out the targets maneuvering. I've fooled about with all the settings in this thread but cant solve this. I'm running over the link cable from the USB C in my RTX 2080. Any tips? Thanks in advance.

I've noticed a brief yellow flash on this map as well. Sometimes it occures several times. I've only been flying this map recently and only in the P47. What I do get in this map only, is fairly frequent CTD and total PC hangs. Often after about an hour, and often when firing guns. But not allways. I've turned off Hyper Threading and still it occurs. Bit of a bummer as I enjoy hunting trains on this map :)

For those of us who are already on Facebook and or are more relaxed about it. This thing represents good value price wise here in Australia, and competition is good. I'm just wondering how good it will be with DCS? Will there be a perceptible difference vs the G2 or other more expensive headsets? I gues we won't know until somebody gets one.

Found a documentary made in 1947 about a P47 Sqd in Corsica 1944. It's on Netfix and is called Thunderbolts. 16mm colour cameras strapped all over the plane. Definitely worth watching if you're into the Jug, only 41 mins long.

I've never seen in my life such detail in a flight simulator map
dugite57 replied to Simon1279's topic in DCS: The Channel
I too am blown away by this map. Been checking it out in the HUEY. Amazing detail which surpasses modern RTS and many FPS levels. It's a sheer joy to fly over low and slow. I've been into flight sims since the mid 80's and sub logic wire graphics on 8086's but this takes the cake. Well done everyone, and yes, its early release but please don't dumb it down. For me it finally has the detail required for helicopters and ground based activity. It certainly gives my poor old 4770k haswell a run with all 4 cores at 100% but it's still smooth @ 4.4ghz, 32gb of ancient 2013 ram and a 2080. Reminds me of how we used to use Flight Sim to "test" PC's :) -
I've been DCS horneting for several years, without issue in this same mission. I put INS to CV, wait till I get OK on the screen, then INS from CV to Nav. Created a new mission and it works, so I'll assume the original mission I made, which is a few years old, has been compromised by recent update.

I've got a practice mission where I can drop mk82's or whatever using CCIP. Recently, when starting off cold from carrier I note that; 1 - The middle MFD (or whatever you cal it) does not have the coloured map and; 2 - the aircraft symbol does not move from wp0 even though I've launched and am miles away from wp0 3 - when I select mk82/83 and setup CCIP the drop point tracks some weird location in the mountains, instead of tracking along in front of me like it used to do. It's a mission I made when F18 first came out. I've tried creating a new flight, but still get this issue. Just wondering is there a bug here or have I hosed it? Thanks ion advance

I too have a 5yo pc and faced the GC issue. Mines a 4770k de-lidded and stable on all 4 cores at 4.5ghz. Had a 780Ti running my dell U2713H @ 2560x1440. Recent improvements saw a second 1T SSD for games leaving the original 256 ssd for o/s only. DCS ran much better, much less pausing etc as a result. Wanting to continue my process of milking more life out of this pc I decided that I'd go for a video card upgrade. My plan is to only buy stuff that'll go into the next PC, if and when I feel the need. So, after much deliberation, and not being keen on second hand, I went the new 2080FE over the 1080Ti. The new costs here in Australia are similar at $1200au, give of take. If the old 1080ti was $800au new it would have been a different story. So for similar reasons I went the 2080FE. Could see no benefit in non FE cards which in general are higher priced here. Card's perform similarly but the 2080 seems to have an edge in most stuff @1440p, it's also got the new tech for what it's worth (I'm not counting on it being 1st gen and crippled). Anyway I'm blown away by the results, as I should be coming from a 3 gig 780ti; My little Nevada frame rate test, take off in Heuy and head north over race track then turn south along freeway and fly down the main street of Las Vegas revealed; 780ti avg 64fps, but got down to about 26 in among the hi rise's. The 2080FE avg 97fps but the big surprise was it never dipped below 90FPS (subjective, based on my glances at counter). The other big surprise is suddenly, without changing any game settings, it all looks clearer. I can now see the Ball when doing my Kamikaze CV landing attempts. More importantly, I can now see other aircraft from further away. It's chalk and cheese. I was going to get a 3440*1440 monitor, still may, but there's less urgency. What I was putting down to as being a monitor issue, turned out to be solved by new GC. I also fired up ARM3 with similar results. Even desktop seems clearer!!! Oh, the card is actually shorter, cooler and quieter than my old gigabyte windforce 780ti. So, I'm very happy with my 2080FE. Shame the $au was @us $0.70 compared to 2011 when it was over a dollar. But I won $1200 in footy tipping so I'm less peed off with the silly pricing. I'd have loved a 2080Ti, but could not bring myself to spend the extra $600au, for something that probably be chocked by my older system anyway.... I could wait for pricing to settle, but I wanted a card upgrade for past 2 years and so took the plunge and am very pleased with the results...

1333Mhz or 1866Mhz DDR3 RAM
dugite57 replied to dekiplav's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yesterday I put and 1TB 860 EVO SSD in my old "2013" PC and moved my DCS from existing HDD to the SSD and all my stuttering has gone. Best hardware result I've ever had. Can't believe it. OS is on an old 256gb EVO840 SSD. Rest of the PC is 4770k de-lidded @4.5ghz, 16gig DDR2 1866, 780Ti graphics. My thinking is I'll only put components into this pc that can be migrated to the new pc, like the SSD and an next gen video card. Anyway, the effect of the SSD is so noticeable I think it's given this pc a 12 month reprieve. -

Probably a stab in the dark, but make sure you have the SATA3 cable, not an old 1.2 or 2 or whatever, they all have the same plug. -
Been playing Eastern Front, Persian Nights and Preemptive Strike missions. Turned the single player into co-op by making both planes in the flight "clients". In Preemptive Strike I have to spawn first and get out of the way as my co-op wingman will spawn on me. A small price to pay given the ensuing fun. All these missions are really great fun and I'd just like to express my gratitude to the makers for putting them up here for us to enjoy. I've yet to do the Nevada missions as my "wingman" does not have the map, but I'll get there.
