  1. Yup.. I've done this for exactly this type of experimentation. Going back to factory reset and installing just DCS related stuff would seem to help if I've overbloated by OS with add-ons that hurt rather than help DCS. To answer your question -- yes and no ... DCS is able to determine the version # of the mods (aircraft, terrains). Yet if you have the latest, then yes, you can simply install base DCS (which always downloads Caucaus and Mariana for some reason) and then copy in the folders for the other mods. I found this process helpful a couple times, especially mid summer when it seemed the DCS updates had larger impacts.
  2. FWIW I went from 32 to 64 GB ram and got better results.
  3. yes, YMMV -- map, MP server, what plane or heli you're flying. the diff between then and now is that the FPS is now high enough to be amazing! and I'm able to jump in much easier now and not spend extra time prepping everything to max out my performance. not having dips that go into the 20s or 30s fps is a major victory and one that makes the VR experience so much better. worth the $$ if you're into the flight sim experience. though i will say the largest improvement ever comes from using dynamic quad-view via eye tracking (ala quest pro). i'd suggest that change first over any add'l hardware ones.
  4. Very true -- this is the first time (well, second if you count the gaming laptop) where I threw $$ into the air so I could finally get ahead of the software. DCS provides what I dreamt about as a kid, so that's my excuse.
  5. I took the path that I'm building a flight simulator, not a gaming rig. for a while, tweaking setting was fun to see how much added performance I could get. yet the pains -- all those various issues we all encounter -- greatly affected my ability to play, especially MP. the game is so much easier when you're partially in DCS and partially out (ie. not in VR). In VR, the immersion is so intense, having to also deal w/ tech issues is a major PINTA. I've spent enough time horsing around, time to enjoy flying all these birds I keep buying!
  6. Back in 2022 I got a razer blade 15, i9 12 gen rtx 3080ti, 64 gb ram -- a sweet gaming laptop. my fps was getting mid30s-mid40s asw after doing all the typical pc perf tweaks - turning off gpu hardware acceleration, core isolation, using hp power plan, mbuccia quad views (dyanmic using a quest pro). i did it all. seemed every dcs version had to do a bit more tweaks -- perhaps tweaking some core affinites, changing system priority, etc..). the helis would have the heaving fps hit -- caucaus a-10ii was usually pretty smooth. i was getting tired of spending most of my time tweaking the settings and then just living with the occasional stutter, or something otherwise less than ideal so i could at least play a bit. in hindsight, i realized I should've just built a pc. the advantages of having a gaming laptop back in 2022 for me are different now, and i would love to have an semi-perm spot in my place for flight simming, where a mid-tower would make sense. i do like gaming in other spots in my place, which the laptop allows, yet i'm disappointing in the constant fight i have for dcs. so I solved it... a week ago, when online -- got a i9 14 gen, rtx 4090, 128 gb ram, z790, mid tower atx, cooler, etc... surprised all the components showed in a week (though I do live in los angeles). anyhow, all those youtube videos where folks are having max settings flying at 90fps? that's me now!!! vr problems solved! see ya on TTI!!
  7. Yea, it can take a while to load into the cockpit.
  8. That's normal
  9. Thanks for posting all your settings -- I'm always looking to try different settings for the performance and the immersion. VR DCS is everything I dreamed about as a kid.
  10. I realized my GPU was throttling at 80C. I couldn't find a hardware setting that would turn that off (maybe cause I have a gaming laptop?). Anyway, it took 3 attempts, but I have a (quiet) good performant cooler now. In the heaviest of times on DCS, I hit 79, yet don't hit 80. It stopped my stuttering.
  11. Hiya! The K-51 I bought arrived, and its awesome! I play in VR, and this has totally been great for the immersion, especially when trying to make challenging landings! As the person said above, the customer service was spot on!
  12. are you speaking about moving the openkneeboard overlay or the srs one (the one w/ just lines of text)? For (1) -- yes, openkneeboard has settings that allow you to move its location (find them in the VR settings), for (2) -- no.
  13. You got great specs.... Not on the main menu. I get a delay when selecting my role on MP servers, even with Supercarrier disabled. Is that correct? Are you saying you're getting lag in the main menu? I imagine restarting DCS fixes it?
  14. I recently bumped from 32GB to 64GB, made a huge diff. I don't think you could play at all w/ 8GB, it takes nearly that, if not more, simply to launch.
  15. Yo! About a year ago, I got a cheap, $20, cooling pad for my gaming laptop as I noticed that that the gpu was throttling due to excessive heat. Recent updates, 2.9.6 specifically, brought some excessive stuttering that I wasn't able to track down to anything specific -- until I took a guess that it was throttling again. So last week I bought a $60 one that seals the laptop, has high powered fans, etc.. just to see if it made a diff. Well, after playing for hours all weekend, I can say, that yes, my laptop was indeed throttling itself. I am under the belief that since last year, enough has been changed where the strain on the GPU has increased and I've been hitting that throttle again. Wanted to mention it, as I know others have stuttering issues that don't completely make sense. Cheers!
  16. Same question -- are there pilot and gunners we can turn on? Also, do any of the popular MP servers allow the blackhawk?
  17. I played around and figured out it was VoiceAttack. Despite the selection in Vaicom, "Hide On-Screen Text" being marked off, text still remains off. It seems that checkbox in Vaicom, once selected, is permanent. Vaicom appends this to the gameMessages.lua file, removing it resolves the issue: -- VAICOM PRO server-side script -- gameMessages.lua (append) -- www.vaicompro.com function show() makeExist() selectHmdSkin() window:setVisible(false) end
  18. I play in VR, I have subtitles turned on, yet I still don't see any on screen text. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
  19. Same. I use simshaker -- I've moved over to heli's and I've really enjoyed the feel from the HF8.
  20. I highly recommend playing around w/ the config file. You can adjust the size of the view, its fidelity, etc.. Maybe give yourself an extra few frames!
  21. Ok, so I've spent so much time tweaking my graphics after all the different issues w/ the last version, openxr, quadview, lag on mp, turning on/off supercarrier, etc.. I went back to scratch and started over with my graphics settings. Upping my pixel resolution in the meta quest link app to 1.3x removed the above line issue. It looks quite nice actually. I was afraid I'd lose a lot of framerate, but I'm still up in the 36 range. I like it.
  22. I think this all started with recent updates with DCS and Meta which broke the quad-views. I originally used the quad-views fix that was posted on youtube, and then rolled it back once Meta resolved the layering issues. I noticed that the area around the quadviews focus area will show a very thin black line. Has anyone else noticed this and was able to address it?
  23. DCS has an update that resolved the VR hands on my QP, that may resolve your issues too Nighthawk1.
  24. This looks to be real friggin awesome! What perf impact does it have? Am I gonna lose some frames using it?
