  1. I upgraded to SSD, new mobo, with a fresh install of A-10C. My old HD is now a secondary drive. I'm trying to find the old install's key command file so that I can import it into my new install. Where is the saved key commands stored? Thanks!
  2. this is awesome. I thought I had a good running setup until I put these to the test...wow..much better!! Thanks!
  3. anti-skid systems on aircraft are typically deactivated below about 15-20 kts depending on aircraft. So to say that the system would allow wheel spin below this speed is not true. I am a pilot in the civilian commercial world but I have F-16 friends who tell me that above 80% power, with the brakes set, the aircraft will move forward due to the rubber tires turning around the locked rims.
  4. wouldn't this be a good use of the mini-stick? Also...look into a mod called "Franken Potato". I seem to remember a guy who sells modded throttles with added functionality.
  5. I spent over 10 minutes getting the jet all cranked up, set up, and ready to roll. Lined up and pushed up the power. Just about 100 kts, I hear a bang and the nose drops to the runway. I guess that was a tire/strut failure but I was sure upset about losing my small chance to go flying. Had another just the other night where just as I was raising the nose for rotation, the right main blew and I had to gently wrestle it into the air. Random coded failures is all I can figure.
  6. Rocky49...just look at the numbers in brackets and forget about all the code to the right. Reduce the numbers to 0 and all you will see is a red or blue dot for a label.
  7. dang I'm dumb when it comes to this... All I want is a red dot for the enemy and blue for friendly..... could someone show me what the LUA should look like for that? Thanks!
  8. yeah I noticed the aileron, but watch that and then as he taxis past the camera and extends them again for the crowd....again, I might be crazy but I see a big difference in extend speed.
  9. I found this video the other day and something really caught my eye. Fast forward to 7:40 and watch till the end. The extend/retract cycle rate is much higher than in the sim or am I crazy? I've always felt the cycle rate was low but never had anything to base it on until now....see what you guys think:
  10. For me I played with them on while I was learning the systems, JTAC interactions, and getting comfortable with the HOTAS finger dance. I think trying to learn the sim WHILE trying to locate targets would be very frustrating. Now that I've got the hang of the Hog, I go about 80% of the time with them off. I do feel that the labels bridge the gap from real life to sim. In real life I know there is so much more intel and briefings and other types of inputs that "complete" the battlefield mental picture for the pilots that we don't experience. I really like the idea of a minimal icon but I don't know how to do that.
  11. This was my very point....I felt like I bought a Lamborghini and after sitting down discovered they put the steering wheel in backwards. Don't get me wrong....I'm not bashing here, the TM Warthog is awesome. The feel of the unit is top notch and the in game response is laser precise. It just wasn't for me. I read way too much about multiple failures people experience around the 3-6 month use mark with throttles bricking, trim switches failing, lubrication failing in the control stick, etc. Maybe when the price drops to the 300 dollar mark I'll re-purchase. I instead upgraded my old CH Combatstick to the Fighterstick. I then did the rubber-band/condom upgrade and am really happy. AGAIN, this is not a bash TM post. I simply bought the unit, tried it out, didn't really like what I saw for the price and took it back.
  12. wings don't lose lift by performing high AOA manuevers...they lose lift when you exceed the critical angle of attack NO MATTER how fast or slow you are going. The big ol fat wing of the A-10 creates a tremendous amount of lift and stability. Straing "hershey bar" wings were replaced by swept wings for one reason......SPEED. Non-swept wings reach critical mach much sooner than swept wings. When you exceed critical mach really bad things like Mach Tuck, Control Buzz, Control Reversal, and lots of other things happen that cause the aircraft to loose parts or become uncontrollable. Of course the high wing sweep and built in negative stability is why most modern fighters are kept in controlled flight by the aid of computers.
  13. copy that...no offense taken. thanks for your thoughts.
  14. thanks! I think your post is really what I was looking for. Certainly don't want a CH vs Thrustmaster issue.
  15. Thanks for responding...I'll leave the bank account remark alone but the rest of your post is good intel.
  16. I hear ya on the base plate...it just smacked me as goofy. All these reports of the throttle bricking and the control stick needing to be lubed are what really make me uneasy. I guess I'm saying I'm suprised to read about all the problems on a system that costs as much as it does.
  17. I'm into day 5 with the new setup. I was using CH products HOTAS before. Here is what I love: 1) The control stick feel is incredible...I feel like I'm flying a real aircraft. 2) Metal construction is fantastic and the weight of the units impressive. Plus the way it all looks is awesome. Here is what I don't like or am scared of: 1) My control stick base plate came installed backwards out of the box...c'mon, for 500 bucks you can't install the base plate so the logo faces the right way? 2) I have lost the use of rudders (CH Throttle mini-stick) and wheel-brakes on the HOTAS...reaching for the key board is an immursion killer for me and I REALLY miss the mini-stick and using pinky button on combat stick as wheel brakes. --BTW before you say, "Go buy rudder pedals", I'm now over 650 bucks into this with a new monitor and the Warthog HOTAS...I've already broken the bank and will not buy additional equipment. 3) It seems there is a very high failure rate of the throttle unit at about the 1 to 3 month use mark. All the switches on the throttle base are cool but it seems they are a failure waiting to happen. 4) "Sticknation" or whatever the term is to describe having to lubricate the control stick...as in dissasemble the unit to put lube on it...really? I've had the CH stuff for almost 9 years and have never heard of such a thing...again...at 500 bucks should I have to do such a thing?? 5) Probably my ignorance but there seems to be no way to assign more than one function to a button. Can anyone tell me how to do this without using the TARGET software? I would love to assign outside views and map views to the HOTAS. 6) Why is the paddle switch "no worky"? How do you activate it? I would love to make that my brakes. Yes, I want to be talked out of taking this stuff back....I love the feel and look of Warthog HOTAS but right now I'm looking at sending it back and getting the CH Fighterstick to replace my almost 9 year old Combatstick. Thanks all!
  18. this would be the friend to have! http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=147&t=1189966
  19. just my 2 cents.. I flew an aircraft in the airline world that has the same engines as the A-10c. In our aircraft (CRJ) the engine switches engaged the electronic engine control system that always provided the most efficient fuel flow to the engines based on power lever angle, outside air temp, and a whole plethura of other sensor inputs. Basically it looked at your power inputs and modified the fuel flow to be the most efficient at that time. When the switches were turned off, you went to a mechanical fuel flow schedule based on power lever angle only. An HMU or hydro-mechanical unit supplied fuel to the engines. You had much higher ITT's and had to really watch engine limitations but you could get "more power" from the engines. We were only allowed to operate that way when the EEC's were out of service.
  20. I don't see how but what do I know... My previous monitor worked great as far as preportions, I think its just a matter of getting rid of the fish eye effect. I have been playing around with the aspect ratio number in the config.lua file and found a setting of 1.79 helps curb the effect.
  21. you hit the nail on the head. I am making some headway, however. I just discovered with TIR5 if I just pull my head back at various distances, the fish eye effect doesn't exist...its just when I use my zoom mapping that the effect becomes overwhelming. Thanks for sticking with me on this....I think I can get it to a playable level now.
  22. I do have zoom mapped to my CH combatstick. Isn't there another set of keys that actually shift the players head position? Maybe I could try that.
  23. thanks for the files Nate....I didn't notice any difference....surely there are tons of people playing on widescreen monitors that don't have that wierd zoom effect
  24. its all the time. Its not a zoom issue...I just zoomed out so you could see the effect, the game starts at a good zoom level. When I look straight ahead the side cockpit rails are distorted to be zoomed to an abnormally large size(take a look at my first screen shot..this is what I mean, the side rails are twice as thick as they should be). It gives the impression of having blinders on that block your periphial vision. Using TIR, when I move my head to look to the side, the cockpit rails reduce down to normal size again....I can literally make them enlarge and shrink by just moving my head around a bit.
  25. Thanks Nate, I have the vsync fixed. I am at my wits end with the cockpit rail issue. I have no idea what to do
