-=NEW MOVIE=-"Keep On Rolling"
firesoldier845 replied to firesoldier845's topic in Screenshots and Videos
No actually your wrong it was 2 vs 2 the entire time - not even scripted in any way or form. I just set up the fast battle planner and gave each side heaters and I flew one of the F-15's. I didn't know how it was going to turn out or who was even going to win the engagement - nor did I care who won. FWIW, the Mig and SU-25 are my planes of choice. The next 2 videos will be focusing on them. I might have done a poor job of trying to paste some of the scenes together to fit in chronologic order but really there was nothing scripted or setup in any way from the track. I did have to reuse some of the footage though from different angles. The battle was over in like maybe 2:30 but the song was like 3:30 long so I had to make several AVIs from the same track at different camera angles and reuse scenes to fill up space. It's not like any of the movie was set up for a certain outcome or any of the scenes were staged at all. It was just a random battle that I recorded and decided to make into a movie. Glad at least some people liked it. I'm slowly working on my own LockON fan site and will put the high definition version up of "Keep On Rolling" on my site when it goes live. cheers firesoldier845 -
Any Sites to Host Videos??
firesoldier845 replied to firesoldier845's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I uploaded it over at Jabo. I couldn't log into lockonskins, been so long since I logged in lost my password and my email has changed since then. I should have my own website up tommorrow sometime and it will be online there. In the meantime it's over at Jabo in ipod format, it can be played in quicktime or itunes for windows or mac. I'll get a higher quality version out soon, probably tommorrow. cheers -
I think this link will work: http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/index.php?section=downloads&subcat=28&file=487&PHPSESSID=91fe5178e26728bc6f052b9f895f5a6d This is my newest movie. The original is in HD 720p but this is the smaller iPod version of the movie. You can play it in itunes, quicktime or a quicktime alternative. Anway, if the link doesn't work it's at http://www.virtual-jabog32.de just look in the file section for it. I'll try to get a higher quality version out on my own website as soon as it goes live. cheers firesoldier845

Any Sites to Host Videos??
firesoldier845 replied to firesoldier845's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I'll try to upload there. I just bought some of my own webspace for hosting videos and podcasts. But I'm sure it will take some time to setup and for the domain name to propagate. Do u guys think 1000GB transfer a month is enough bandwidth to host videos?? I use a Macbook Pro for all my video editing - .mac would be really nice but it would cost me $200 a year for 250GB a month transfer but I can get 1000GB a month bandwidth for under $8.00 a month. Once I finally go live with the site in a day or so I'll see what kind of bandwidth I am using for the video and make a decision. .mac is so nice but expensive. I'll try to upload to JABO whatever it is, but the form thing for uploading isn't that reliable but I'll try again. cheers - can't way to show this video off it came out pretty good for only my 2nd one and my first using my new Macbook Pro. I burned it to a DVD and it looks just so awesome on my 50" Sony HDTV widescreen. I have the video in 720p HD but it's over 200mb compressed H264 HD and I doubt I'll be able to host the HD version. I'll try to get the smaller version out ASAP on my website as soon as it goes live and I'll keep trying to upload somewhere in the meantime. thanks -
I just finished my latest video and want to host it somewhere. I'm going to PODCAST it soon but wondered if there were any places I could upload the full quality version to?? Patricks Aviation is nice, I even paid for an account but I don't like whole conversion\streaming thing is not compatible with my codecs so I said the heck with it and will cancel over there. I'd like to share the full quality version if I could find a site to host it, I should have the podcast up soon though. cheers firesoldier845

Of course I have a PC, nice PC too for gaming and for LockOn and I my laptop is an Apple Macbook Pro that I use for doing work. I like both platforms and they both have their advantages so I don't want to start a debate on platforms PC vs Mac, but I really want to use my Mac to do LockON movies. The thing is I would really like to be able to take the AVI files from Lock-On and use them directly with my Mac for editing. The problem is iMovie and Final Cut will not read them. I've installed the xVid codes on my Mac and quicktime just won't play them. I can play them with VLC, but they are not usable with Final Cut or iMovie HD. I've double triple checked the xvid codec for Mac and it seems to be installed correct but it still don't work worth a damn. I suspect it's because I have an Intel Mac instead of an older G5 Mac. Well, I can convert them to H264 using another program and the quality is good, but I feel like I am still losing out. I really can't tell the difference that much but it seems like if I compress something that is already compressed in Xvid with a new Codec H264 then I am losing quality. Maybe not though? I really don't know and I can barely tell the difference after converting from xvid.avi to h264.mov - but it sure would be nice if I could just encode the AVI with H264 directly from LockON. Is it possible? Does x264 work with LockON?? FWIW, I actually made a really nice movie on my Mac and burned to DvD and it looks awesome on my 50" Sony HDTV. I mean, the final product video quality is still awesome but I just feel like I might be reducing the quality when I convert from Xvid to H264 for editing. Anyway, is there a free codec out there that's H264 that works with LockON?? This would solve all my problems. I mean, like I said, I still get very nice image quality that I could live with using the Xvid files and converting them to H264 files that I can use on my Mac. I'd just like to eliminate the conversion\re-encoding step if it is possible. Since the final product is going to be H264 anyway it could be best if the source is H264 from the start. thanks again - you guys have been very helpful with all the replies to my previous posts. cheers

Ok I've been posting a lot lately and this should be my last help request. In summary, I decided to use xvid codec for my Lomac movies. Thanks to those that recommended it. I can use it on my Windows PC to render the AVI and then put it on my Mac to do the video editing cause Xvid works on Apple too. It works great. The thing is I want the highest quality video setting using xvid and I'm no video compression guru. Most of my video work is just taking uncompressed DV video and using Final Cut or iMovie HD and then writing it directly to DVD. I don't know much about codecs and how to get the best quality. I noticed stuff in xvid like 1 pass or 2 passes, Adaptive Quanitzation, B-VOPs, CBR, Target Quantizer, Quality preset, etc. Truthfully, I am happy with the default quality, it's really not that bad. But if I could get better I would like to use the best if I knew what all these settings do. File size is really not an issue and neither is rendering time since I have 2 computers to work with. So any tips, suggestions, etc.? I'm rendering at 1280X720 widescreen too. Thanks again for all the friendly tips and advice. cheers firesoldier845

I've made movies before with LockOn using fraps with my PC, but I really want to edit them on my Mac laptop and also I want to use the AVI maker for the best quality. FRAPS is good, but I just want the smooth video playback of the in game AVI maker. I posted a question last week and was recommended just to stick with the Xvid codec, which is available for Apple as well. So if I use Xvid I can use my Mac laptop to edit worst case scenario. BUT if possible I would like to use quicktime. So I was wondering if I purchased quicktime PRO for my Windows PC could I export the rendered movies directly to quicktime H.264 for using my Apple? Does anyone know if it works with Lock-On or not?

HELP-Using the In Game Render\Movie Maker
firesoldier845 replied to firesoldier845's topic in Screenshots and Videos
wow, thanks for the compliment. "Come and Get It" was like the first movie I EVER did EVER for Lock On. I love making movies though. I'm starting to get into high definition movie making so I wanted to do some Lock-On stuff in High Def 720p. I use an Apple laptop for most of my real movie making, but naturally I have a nice PC for gaming. I haven't been playing much LOMAC lately cause I just had my laptop until a few days ago. I'm really happy someone liked my "Come and Get it" video. It was a lot of fun making and I had a lot of fun actually flying the combat scenes in the movie. The crew ejection with the music was deliberate editing. I really like to choregraph the music with the video as you can see in that movie. I've got some great ideas for future videos and want to start working on them, but again, I am really trying for image quality this time around so I want to find a good codec that I can use. Maybe I'll try searching the forums a bit more for information. thanks again for the compliment. cheers -
I just got a new computer after only having a laptop for the last 6 months. I want to make high quality LOCK-ON movies. I don't care about file size all that much, I just want the best quality image I can get. I am rendering movies at 1280X720 widescreen so I can edit them on my laptop. If I don't use compression then just 10-20 seconds of video is like 2 gigs-which is TOO much. I noticed if the videos are like 2 gigs they won't even play on the computer. So I guess I have to use some type of video compression but I want to use the best so WHICH one??? Again, I'm not concerned with video file size that much but of course I can't or don't want to edit 2 gig files that are only 15 seconds of video. Also, do other video compression software compatible with the in game render tool? Such as quicktime or something else? Even if I have to purchase something I will gladly do that to get high image quality video at 1280X720 widescreen. Thanks for any help.

Missiles much better FM and kill ratio
firesoldier845 replied to a topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
They say it's realistic, but I tell you this is the #1 reason why I have been driven off-line and I used to play just about every day. When 1.1 came out I felt that even though the ECM is supposed to be realistic it doesn't work well in the air quake nature of the online community. I mean, in a real life situation you'd have voice communication with other pilots on your team, possibly AWACS or ground control, friendly pilots would stick to their flight plans, etc, so you'd have an overall better situational awareness of who was enemy or foe with noise all on your radar scope. But in game where people just spawn in and fly wherever the heck they feel like with their jammer on all the the time it's very frustrating - whether it be friend or foe. Yeah, before I get flamed I do realize there are a lot of great free servers out there with teamspeak and everything else and I appreciate wholeheartdly the squads that host free servers for us out of their own pocket. It's not directed at you personally or anything or even at ED because I think they are trying to do the right thing by modeling the ECM the best they can. The ECM isn't a problem in a squad vs squad match, it's just a big mess in the air quake type just everybody spawn in and go. Since 1.1 I haven't played much A2A online, mostly just ground attack on 504 server. I haven't done that lately cause my HOTAS is broke and I need a new one. But I'll be back in the air shortly as an SU-25 or A-10 as a target for you all fighter jocks. cheers -
Thanks for posting about your new CPU. I have exactly a 4000+ and was thinking of upgrading to an FX-57 or 60 but now I can see that it really won't make much of a difference. Thank you so much. It seems like a lot of the hardware sites don't use LOMAC as a benchmark anymore so it's hard to get good data like this. Thanks again. I guess it's just worth waiting again until the next gen hardware comes out to see if it can run this beast of a program. I get good fps with my 4000+ though with some tweaks, but man would I love to be able to max this game out one day. Heck what sucks is by the time the hardware catches up to LockOn we will all be playing a different sim cause ED will probably have something new out by then!!! LOL cheers

I know it's OT, and is not even in the plan - but a Vietnam era sim done by ED would rock - Mig-17, Mig-21, F-4, F-8,F-105 - I know it won't happen, but we've never had a Vietnam era flight sim anywhere near the complexity of LockOn or Falcon 4. That would be cool and most if not all of the info is declassified. I know it's NOT going to happen. I realize the decision has been made a long time ago what's next but Vietnam would be a great theatre. Wish someone would pick up the ball and do this right for once. WOV is a nice sim, but nothing like what ED puts out. cheers

Cockpit interaction in future addons
firesoldier845 replied to aimmaverick's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The whole clickable pits debate is nothing more than another one of those my sim is better than your sim things. Or replace better with "more realistic". It's just another F4 fanbois vs Lomac fanbois thing. If ED does clickable good or if they don't good. It's up to them. The crying about it being realistic well you people who think than any of this gaming is realistic...come on. It's a game, have fun and enjoy it. If a clickable pit is going to bother anybody one way or another then you take this hobby way too seriously. ED will do what they want and what they can afford to do given budget and time. Sadly, there probably won't be enough clickable buttons and switches for everyone but you'll just have to get over it. I mean no matter how much they do it'll never make some people happy. Someone will be complaining about how the sounds of the switches don't sound realistic or something a long those lines. cheers -
Incidentily you should be able to do the same thing in an SU-25. In afganistan they did buddy lasing where one SU-25 or an SU-24 would designate and another Su-25 would come in and launch on the target. I mentioned this to ED in another thread and they said they would "look into it".

Lomac Server Autoloading Script
firesoldier845 replied to firesoldier845's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
wonder if we could get something similar that could use LUA to find out if targets were destroyed for a particular coalition? For example, if 20 ground targets destroyed on BLUE side then a message could come up that says RED side wins and then restart a new mission. Not a true dedicated server but a solution somewhat. -
Lomac Server Autoloading Script
firesoldier845 replied to firesoldier845's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
thanks -
Does anyone know where I can get that nifty little script or program that automatically loads missions in Lock On when running a server on hyperlobby every so many minutes? I've tried searching the forums but still can't find it. I remember the author posting a thread on here a while back but can't find it. It's the same script that VVS504 uses and a few other servers. thank you.
-
Yes, I know about Fridays on your server and look forward to it. But I still like to fly as much as I can on your server - best in HL for fans of SU-25. thank you so much. one of these days I will get lucky and catch "stat padder" vulching me at airfield with an R-60. cheers
-
Incidentily, I love your server VVS504, it's my favorite one since the SU25 is my favorite plane but I wish you guys would put S300 near AF or close by because it is very hard to play online SU25. You guys have the only server on hyperlobby that I can grab Su25 100% of the time and I am so happy with VVS504 server. But blue side can easily look at score box and see what planes are flying and if no Migs or SU in the air will fly right to frog base and kill you easily. Last night I fly SU25 for red alone against blue 3 F-15's - not very fun unless you like flying away from RWR all night long. cheers

as far as the cheating goes it's pretty lame. there are some really crumby people you find online sometimes. win at any costs if you know what i mean. other games are really bad - aimbots, wall hacks, and stuff in fps shooter games. peeps clan or squad stack servers and slaughter the noobies with no regard. flightsims aren't so bad but we still have our fair share of butterheads out there. oh well, i just wish it wasn't so easy to cheat but no matter what game developers come up with people always find a way to get around it. cheers

F16 in Lock On still planned?
firesoldier845 replied to meangreen's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thats good too. I wish the DEVS could see how much a dedicated server app would just take the online experience over the top. Even a simple thing similar to the IL2 server would be awesome. Something so we could have simple mission goals so that RED or BLUE could win. I like IL2 server, I wonder if something could be done 3rd party? -
F16 in Lock On still planned?
firesoldier845 replied to meangreen's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Okay, so the roadmap is the KA-50 next which will be playable with the current group of planes? as well as some updates to the current group like tweaks and stuff like that. Then the next project is the F-16 which will be a completely new sim and it might include the Mig-29? That would be cool. I sure enjoy online play and would be boring without adversary planes to fight against. I really enjoy online ground pounding best though - going to miss the Frog and Hog. It would be great if the F-16 and new Mig would be included with the current group of planes but I understand that would all have to be done from scratch over again. Needless to say, this is all years away right??? SO we still be playing Lock-ON for a few more years. -
Hosting a Hyperlobby Dedicated Server
firesoldier845 posted a topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Ok, I just wondered what type of requirements are needed to host a LockOn server? Is it possible to host a decent server on a 768kb upload DSL connection at my home? Or do I really need to invest in a dedicated or colocated box? Just curious what options are out there. The fastest upload connection I can get at home is 768kb - is it even worth the time? If not, what kind of rates are being charged for hosting? I mean what are the min. hardware requirements to get up and running and if I rented a server how much bandwidth do you think is used monthly?? Also, just how do you guys get LockOn up and running with remote access if you rent a server for it?? thanks
