thank you -
I want to make the Mirage 2000 flyable just for doing my next video project. How do I go about doing this? Please help - ty. firesoldier845

http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=Ot8pswiZik8 Here is my first ever lock on video - "Come and Get It" - It's low quality until I find a suitable host. I have some questions about movie making. If I wanted widescreen format for playing back on HDTV what should I capture and render at what resolution that would match an HDTV widescreen? Also I heard of a program that could trim the top and bottom of a video clip so that I could use to get rid of the text and stuff at the top of the screen and also would need this program I suppose to make the video 16:9 format widescreen. I think it called virtual dub or something like that. Is this what I should use? I have only MS moviemaker and actually like it for what I do. I know it's limited but a good start so please no Vegas or Premiere tips cause I have to do everything with virtual dub and FRAPS. Also, is there a way I can get rid of the annoying BETTY sounds and also the cockpit warning buzzers? I noticed that even if I am playing back a track and viewing another plane or outside view if I am pulling too much Gs it will still have betty sounds and warning sounds in the other views. Do you all just turn the volume down for that stuff in the audio config of LOCKON when capturing? is that the trick? thanks firesoldier845

I will still like to see a controller profile for each seperate aircraft so that you can setup differtent buttons on your controller for each aircraft.

Flyables vs. improvements (all of you read!!!)
firesoldier845 replied to aimmaverick's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
FWIW, I'll take either improvements or more flyables and gladly pay for either. The game still rocks. A dedicated server is a must have IMHO though, we could use something like they have for IL2 would just be awesome. I mean think how much fun it would be to have missions to actually defend or attack ground objects just like in IL2. I mean there is a lot they can do with this sim as far as improvements go. One thing is though no matter what ED does they not going to make everyone happy. It's impossible to make everyone happy. I mean, we just have to wait and see what they come out with and just keep supporting. I wasn't crazy about SU25T either but paid for it anyway just for the other improvements and so I could still play multiplayer games. At least ED still gonna support this sim or make another one based on the code. I mean what else is there out there that even compares to LOMAC FC? Yeah F4, but it's only 1 flyable and that get's old too. I wish ED would release more info though on new game or next version just to keep people interested. I mean even weekly updates would be cool. Even though, I'm looking forward to seeing this series mature - we going to get all we want eventually. In the meantime just fly and enjoy. -
LOMAC community Bored or just Dead?
firesoldier845 replied to T-Bone's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I also hate to sound gloomy, but I'm also disappointed at the numbers online and wonder what is going on? I haven't played much myself lately but that's just because everytime I log onto hyperlobby there is just nobody online. I'll admit I don't get on till usually 11 p.m. EST so I'm not in primetime for the east coast USA but man does it seem dead. There has definitley been a noticeable drop off in players. I sure home some peeps come back. It just seems like in 1.1 there were a lot more people playing, then 1.2 came along and servers were packed then a large drop off in players. I still enjoy this game FWIW, and can play offline and have a blast but I really crave the multiplayer experience. Maybe I should just join a squad and play some co-ops and intersquad matches. I had the pleasure one time of flying with the S77th in a closed mission against the AI and must say it was the most fun I ever had playing online. Regretfully, though I'm living in a small apartment now and can't use teamspeak without waking up my kid so joining a squad for the moment is out of the question until we move in a few months to our new house. If anyone though is a member of a squad that plays regularly online that would allow me to join but use teamspeak for only LISTENING I would really be interested in playing more. I'd even be willing to kick in a few bucks each month for server hosting. I just can't talk or risk waking up the baby and feeling the wrath of mom when the kid wakes up as a yell into the MIC - lol :) -
F-15C Top Speed in Lomac
firesoldier845 replied to aimmaverick's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I'm not whineing either, but yeah if the F-15 can do Mach 2.5+ then it should be able to do it in game and if the SU and Mig are slower like Mach 2.3 or whatever it should be then they shouldn't be able to fly faster than that. It's not a Russian designer conspiracy but maybe a bug or some oversight or whatever. It says in the documentation that came with the game that F-15 was Mach 2.5+ so it should be able to do that. Russian planes like Mach 2.3 so they shouldn't fly faster. If what you all are saying is true than something is messed up. Oh and before you guys start flaming me, I never fly the F-15 online as many can attest so I'm not whineing. cheers -
My wife is Polish\Russian and I was going to suprise her with a new tatoo with our daughter's name on it in Russian. I don't want to ask my wife for the correct spelling because then she will know something is up and I want it to be a suprise. Our dauger's name is Aleksandra = александра - I'm pretty sure that's the correct translation - can anyone confirm? thanks

Any news on producing 1.2?
firesoldier845 replied to 169th_Moose's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
One thing I would just like to add about the debate over clickable cockpits. I would love to have them as many others, but I think we should all look at the cost benefit of this. IMHO I don't think they are worth the time and effort if it is going to be at the expense of more flyables. What I mean is, I'd rather have F-16, F-18, Mirage 2000 a long with the current fleet rather than get clickable cockpits. For example I think everything should be brought up to the current level SU25T and have all the new flyables at least be at that level - rather than getting a new flyable with a clickable cockpit and the others remain without clickable cockpits. Also, just how much time ED going to have to put into designing clickable cockpits and what is that going to do to delay more flyables? I could be wrong, but I think most of us want more flyables rather than clickable cockpits. Sure, the best thing would be clickable cockpits for everything plus more flyables but I just wonder if they have the resources available to do this for all the planes plus release new flyables in a time frame that will be reasonable and profitable. Just my two cents - I'm not against clickable cockpits, but I just don't want to see them at the expense of more flyables. -
About Bazar->Terrain->Structures->High.
firesoldier845 replied to KILSEK's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I'm in the same boat as some others. High structures seems to kill my fps, where as medium isn't enough. If I could somehow get something inbetween I'd be real happy. I get good fps on high though except over the big cities maybe it dips into the low 20's so I shouldn't complain too much. But if could squeeze maybe a few more fps over the large towns I'd be really happy. -
A lot of it depends on what resolution you want to run LOMAC at. Plus you need a fast CPU. Even the most expensive vid card is going to choke if your CPU isn't fast enough. A lot of the more expensive vid cards are only better at high resolutions, so if your going to run at 1024X768 or even 1280X1024 then the mid range cards are fairly decent. I've got a really nice top end system and vid card and even my computer struggles in the larger missions with a lot of units involved in the mission. FWIW, don't believe the crap you read about people saying they run this game with everything maxed out and get awesome fps even over the large cities. It's b.s. - and be careful of the video card fan boys that are gonna tell you that brand X is better than brand Y. It's a hard decision Nvidia or ATI, they are both good cards and each one is better than the other at certain games. Just check out the hardware sites and look at the benchmarks and see what brand is better at most of the games YOU play. I've gone back and forth between ATI and Nvidia depending on who has the best bang for the buck in most of the games I play. Right now I have a 6800 Ultra only because it has better fps in LOMAC and IL2 3.0 pixel shader support-and those are my main games. Wait a few more weeks if you can cause ATI is coming out with a new card too that has PS 3.0 support. Everything I have read says ATI new card is going to be better than Nvidia new card. The new cards will probably drop prices on the current ones and more than likely they will have new cards that are mid priced budget cards so you can get X800 or 6800GT performance for even less than today. Remember too, those expensive top end cards are going to be a complete waste unless you have a fast CPU to pair it with. If you had to buy right now though I would recommend 6800GT only because of PS 3.0 support and it seems to edge out ATI in LOMAC and IL2 sturmovik. But I don't think your going to see that much improvement over the 6800 plain. But really, if you can wait a few more weeks I think you will be happier with a new ATI or new Nvidia card or you can get the X850 or 6800GT or Ultra for even cheaper then now. cheers

I thing I wanted to ask about 120C is I been having all sorts of issues online with crazy kills. While online I locked up an enemy WVR maybe 10 miles away and he just shot down one of my teamates. I fired 1 AIM-120C and waited, I saw him make some evasive moves and thought the missile would have hit but must have missed so I fired off 2 more and waited. Again he made some more aggressive moves so I fired off a 4th missile. The entire time I had him locked up STT diving on him. I saw him explode shortly after the 4th missile I fired. He typed "good kill" and I turned away and headed for home. It even said on the screen I killed RED team. I had him locked the entire time and never locked up any other planes. About two min later server message says I killed a BLUE team member-friendly kill. 30 secs or so later another friendly kill!! So 4 missiles fired at a single enemy plane in STT and I wind up hitting him and downing 2 friendlies. Just crazy. I don't know what I did wrong, but definitley AIM-120C seems like it has a mind of it's own. Maybe the friendlies were just in the wrong place at the wrong time but it's weird - I never even locked them up or nothing.

Experiences with AMD 64x2/SLI gfx cards
firesoldier845 replied to dr_glacier's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
FWIW I'm running a 4000+ single core but I have a 6800Ultra. I upgraded from a P4 3.2 and saw a really nice boost in fps. With the LOD ground unit patch also made a big time performance increase. I'm not going to say LOMAC never bogs down, it can sometimes get a little choppy over the big cities but overall fps are great and I'm not using any fps hacks or tweaks other than force feedback turned off. I think a +4000 is a good chip for LOMAC IMHO. Most of my settings are on high or medium and the visuals are great. FWIW, I had a +3800 and had to return it due to a defect and I had some extra cash so went for the +4000. Fps and settings were the same and I can't really tell any difference in performance between the +3800 that I had for a few days and the +4000 that I replaced it with. In fact, you could probably save some cash going with a +3800, other's will disagree with me but I owned both and can tell you fps is negligible if any difference at all - 1-2 fps. I never officially benchmarked, but trust me when LOMAC bogs down it will bog down on FX-55, +4000 or +3800. If I could do it over again I would have saved $200+ and just got another +3800 - probably best bang for buck IMHO. -
As for IFF for F-15 is it true or not that there is a way to tell friend or foe manually in a real F-15? I could swear while reading one of my aviation books there is an IFF button on a real F-15 and also F-16 yoke. I could be wrong, and I'll check but I think in a real F-15 if you have a target locked you can send an IFF request to the locked target and it should respond as a friendly if it is. Would be nice if we had this feature in Lock-On.

OT:fastest single microprocessor on the planet
firesoldier845 replied to arraamis's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
If your a gamer at heart then better to wait until multithreaded games come out which could be months to a year. For me, until LOMAC and IL2 need multithreaded CPUS there is no point in upgrading. You can get a $400 single core AMD chip that will be just as fast if not faster than the $1000 dual core for current games. The cool thing is if you already have 939 then your setup for the future when games do come out that could use the multithreads. Until then, I think you'd just be wasting money. -
Vertical scan in a Mig29
firesoldier845 replied to S77th-Souless's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
If ED had all the knowledge to make every single aspect of modern aerial combat like real life they would not be selling games but designing military simulations for the govt. Please let reality set in peeps, this is not a real military simulator, it was sold as a game in EB Games and Gamestop and now it is being sold online as a game. Yes there is a certain amount of simulated realism that we would all like to have but your never going to make everyone happy. No matter what they do it will never be realistic enough for some people. If ED figured out how to simulate everything perfectly 100% like real life they wouldn't be designing games. 99% of us wouldn't even know how to put a flight suit and helmet on correctly and you people talk like your experts on how the radar and missiles should work because you read a few articles on the internet or better yet you have a friend who has a friend who flew an F-15 or Mig and told you this is how it works. Realism is subjective - and this is a game. GG hit the nail on the head, he's right - we will always lack the information to make radar sim truely realistic 100%. People probably write doctoreal thesis and spend entire lives trying to code software for military simulators and then not get it all right and some of you peeps expect that same level of accuracy in game you buy in Walmart? 'come on Oh and before anyone here thinks I'm flaming them, I'm not - we all want the same thing and that is a realistic a sim as we can get for our $35.00 - I am as guilty as everyone else of wanting more realism in our beloved flight sim hobby, but the only thing that needs to get "realistic" is our expectations. cheers to all p.s. this is still the best damn flight sim community period no matter how we all act sometimes - myself included -
Pretty Big News for the Future
firesoldier845 replied to MBot's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
It's all good news that ED is going to continue this sim but let's be a little realistic with our demands (wishes) and our criticism of ED's decisions guys. Sure I'd love to have every plane in the game flyable with clickable cockpits but with the market situation for flight simming the way it is I'll take anything ED gives us. I do think you guys hit the nail on the head with some of your posts, more flyables are the key to success in this genre of sims. I wasn't cray about the SU25-T but I bought the sim hours after it first came out and will gladly pay for just about any improvements or more flyables. We just have to be realistic guys, for most of us this is a hobby IT's not gaming it's a little more than that. But really, only a few companies are making combat flight sims that aren't played with a console controller and we have to be thankful for what we get. It looks like ED has made up their decision about the next flyable so let's just be happy we are getting something. It's fun to wish for our favorite plane or a plane that our home country uses in it's military but we just got to wait and keep supporting the development. cheers -
Help-Lock On Won't Run
firesoldier845 replied to firesoldier845's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
The driver was the problem, thanks a ton!! -
Just got my new computer today and wanted to load up LOCK-ON to give it a shot. The game loads fine but as soon as I select a mission the computer crashes and completely reboots all on it's own. Every other game plays completely fine with ZERO problems and I've had ZERO lock ups in WinXP or any other games. But LOCK-ON crashes and reboots everytime I start a mission. Temps are fine, no problems in any other games and I can't figure out for the life of me why LOCK-On won't run. Could it be starforce? I installed LOCKON FC originally on my old computer and completely reformatted for this new one and everything inside is different except for HD and DVD recorder. It used another one of my activations but that was expected and I still have 13 left. For the heck of it, I uninstalled FC and loaded the original LOCK-ON and it crashed and rebooted my computer as well so it's a LOCK-ON problem for sure. THe only thing I noticed was my CD for Lock-on looked a bit abused and I wondered if it installed corrupted somehow? Any suggestions? thanks p.s. i might try and pick up another copy of Lock On original from the store if I can find it anywhere and give it a shot.

Nate, Thanks, I don't plan on getting another Ultra. I'm just going to run a single video card. I think I will be happy. In the firingsquad.com SLI review, they ran the Mig29 Demo and the min fps for SLI GT was like 31 and the Ultra got 34 fps and was actually faster at the bottom end of the benchmarks then SLI. Naturally, the SLI was faster at max fps. I just bought a good PSU too with the larger connector 23 pin or something like that I think and it's got a seperate 12v PCIe connector as well. I hope it will be able to run that 6800 Ultra and the A64. I'll have my rig probably next week sometime and let you guys know how it went. Incidentily I bought a 3800+ last month and returned it cause of problems (more than likely it was my old PSU). The 3800+ ran LOMAC smooth as silk and I was really happy when it was working. I had to return it though. I think the FX55 and Ultra will be sweet when I get it. thanks for replying, I've been unable to play LOMAC since I sold my old AGP vid card and can't wait to get back in the mix.
-
rekoal, I had a BFG 6800GT clocked at 370mhz - But right now I'm running a pathethic Gforce4. I sold my 6800Gt cause it was AGP and I wanted to get a PCIe motherboard and new CPU. So I just bought a 6800Ultra clocked at 425mhz. The reason I bought the Ultra was cause I read the SLI LOMAC benchmarks on firingsquad.com and a Ultra seemed to do better at the bottom level of fps then the GT SLI setup. The GT SLI had higher fps, but the minimum fps was lower than the Ultra.
-
Nate, Incidentily what kind of performance are u getting with your current setup as I just ordered a similar rig as yours but getting an 6800Ultra OC instead of the GT? The firingsquad.com SLI review showed the Ultra getting higher FPS on the low end then SLI GT so I went with the single GPU. I'm just hoping for 30fps over the large towns with everything on high - medium water and medium vis. If I can get that I'll be fine. I'm hopeful cause my P4 3.2 gets about 25 fps over the large towns with similar settings.
-
man that's dissappointing with the SLI setup - I'm probably going to wait till June or July and pick up the newest from ATI or Nvidia. I was really hoping I could get a couple of 6800GTs and be happy NOW instead of waiting a few more months. Oh well, I'll have more money saved by then and there will be new faster goodies for less. cheers
