I've spent over 8 hours trying to get a working labels.lua file to function in DCS (Steam version, stable branch). The eight hours broken up by other things at times. The file is placed correctly at: C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Saved Games\DCS\Config\View\labels.lua I have confirmed: - The file is syntactically valid - It’s encoded UTF-8 without BOM (Notepad++ verified) - It works if I rename it or remove it (DCS uses default labels. I need bigger labels I can't see them.) - When the file is present, all labels disappear in F2. I do see them on the map. - The DCS log file (dcs.log) contains no mention of labels.lua being loaded or parsed - Global gameplay settings are set to “Labels: Full” - Mission settings are set to “Use Global” - No mods are installed - Fresh Config folder was generated (replaced Config, reset DCS) This is not a formatting error or encoding issue — the file content is good. DCS is simply ignoring it and failing silently when it's present. I’ve reinstalled configs, tested multiple missions, and verified behavior across reboots. Everything else works. But the moment labels.lua exists — labels are gone. Remove it, and DCS’s default label system works as expected. I'm either running into a unique engine bug, or the label system is broken in this version and just nobody has looked closely enough to notice. If anyone else has this issue or if ED can test whether the label injection code is running — I’d appreciate it. P.S I originally posted this in the wrong forum. I don't think I can delete it. labels.lua.text

Stormheart One of my favorite shots. I had returned to flying after being away for around 25 years. This was my first week back. "Learning to fly, but I ain't got wings, coming down is the hardest thing." I borrowed a little bit (paraphrase) from Tom Petty's Learning to Fly there. I ripped my wings off when I went overspeed in this Mustang. I have found so many interesting and new ways to break a perfectly good airplane. null

I don't wish to bother you if this is already known. I'm unclear. The hotfix that came out a few days ago that stated it had fixed this made it worse. The update indicated takeoffs and landings were not being credited. The takeoffs were working before the fix for the AI planes. Now they are not. I don't see that as much of a problem but something I noticed. I made a few posts about it and completely documented it a few weeks ago and updated it after the hotfix. I was told I posted in the wrong place which I still do not understand. It's okay. I'm flying an instant mission. The two AI aircraft that took off there did register their takeoff in the debrief before the hotfix, now they don't and I still do not get credit for landing. I've been at 106 most of the month. I am sorry if this was already understood.

I am trying to recall the proper way to quote now. I tired to push it down but it wouldn't let me. Seems like people didn't like top quoting. In any case, thanks. It is difficult for me to find the proper place to post anything there. I did look for other places to post but I never saw that one It seems like AI and it is an Aircraft but not combat. It has nothing to do with installation. I don't mean to argue, just pointing out how hard it is. Again, thanks.

The patch notes released today indicated this was fixed. It is not fixed, it is worse. It used to show the AI aircraft with take-offs in the debrief. Now it doesn't show that nor are my landings showing and they are still stuck at 106. They were at 106 when I made the first post I don't think it matters but I am on Steam. null

I noticed a few days ago that I'm not getting credit for landings. I think this started right after the last update about a week ago. The one with the Afghanistan map being released. I tried to do everything that might make a difference including taxing parking, contacting the tower, and even shutting down the engine. My landings have been stuck at 106 for a while. On a side note, I had some performance issues causing my landings to fail for several days after the update. I am fairly new so I didn't know if the PC or me causing all the fails while landing a Mustang. I reduced the frame rate and my landings started to be okay at that point. My PC is inadequate. One other thing I noticed after the update was "hearing voices." I'm adding some humor but I thought I was hearing voices while using DCS. I was hearing voices, they were coming from the Supercarrier. The background voices you can hear at the boss's station shut off when I left the Supercarrier but would return when I went to the P51 and started an instant mission. I'm not sure if they were there with other missions. I discovered that if I went to the landing officers' station before I left the Supercarrier the voices did not follow me. I'm wondering if maybe something with the AI is left over from the Supercarrier and interfering with the AI during landing. I have a video of a full flight (An instant mission for the final approach) that shows no landing noted in the debrief. I've tried other landings at different airports and no landing in those either. Thanks for the help.

I have an issue that makes Steam SEEM like a highly desirable way to go for me. There is much I do not like about it but the one issue all but handcuffs me. That issue is that I live in a developing nation and my internet speed is pretty bad. It took me almost 24 hours to install DCS. I still don't have the F4 update because of that. I just skipped it. I saw many people say it took four hours, that likely means 24 hours for me. That's why I think I need to go with Steam. As I understand, it updates in the background. However, I'm not looking forward to going through the process of the change to Steam. I'm wondering if I will lose out on the sales of aircraft. I'm new and I have yet to purchase anything. I have been waiting for the summer sale. I know I will lose the miles and once I switch, I lose the trails too. Again, the download times are my controlling issue. Do these sales show up in the Steam versions? I will need to uninstall DCS standalone and install the Steam version, right? I hope it is okay to ask this here. I am a bit irritated with Steam right now. I can't post on their forums until I spend $5 and I'm still unsure if I want to use their software. That's another strike against them. I do need more help with this. Thanks.

Thanks, I thought I replied but I don't see it. There are a lot things there I had not noticed.

Check the controls where?

Nice stuff! What software do you use to edit video? One suggestion, slow the text down. It's not that you are doing it too fast. I read slowly or something. I have the same problem with movies or TV shows. I play around with editing vid just enough to appreciate yours.
