F/A-22:improved version of F-15 or what???
lunanera replied to anivanov's topic in Screenshots and Videos
how about this for looking clumsy? still I wish it had won the race instead of the F-35 -
A-10 combat aircraft fundamentals
lunanera replied to AMVI_Surgeon's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
so does that mean that you can only get hold of that manual if you are an american citizen, be it military or civilian? Although you shouldn't because it's for official use only? edit: Shouldn't the luftwaffe have something similar? -
OT for a dumb question-who here writes code?
lunanera replied to hitman's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I started in school with this stuff but I didn't get very far :icon_pidu -
it would just be very cool if were properly simulated with line of sight and friendly units spotting targets and lighting them up with the laser. Can LGB's be used this way? on the A-10?
-
the thing is, that the diamond shouldn't show up if the laser spot is hidden behind some terrain. Unfortunately it does, making it very unrealistic :(

Experimenting the RAMDRIVE aproach.

how about going back to 2000? I'm still using it, mainly because I'm not sure what improvements, if any, XP would make to my system. Any thoughts on this  -
CountryCowfreak, did you do that with lobrief or on your own? if on your own how? thnx edit: made it, thanx anyway

jabog, I ain't no cartographer (although i did start a mapping project http://forum.lockon.ru/showpost.php?p=147937&postcount=20). I must admit though that i didn't take the geometrical phenomenon you're talking about into consideration beacuse I thought it would be negligible on the map scale we're looking at. I didn't look at the actual numbers though. So what i'm getting at is: is it or isn't it negligible? (where the meaning of negligible varies depending on the application)

i believe it should be: (33.4705 - 33.2254) / (800 - 1) = 0.00030676 °/pixel so that the longitude of the nth pixel from the left would work out to be: longitude_n = 33.2254 + ( n x 0.00030676) where n goes from 0 -> 799 I'm sure you've already considered this but beware of your zoom level when taking the screenshots. Hope this is correct and helps.

sorry boss

will 6DOF be implemented for the other aircraft as well?
-
nice one GG! tat's thinking out of the box! Another way would be to convince the viewer that a square is really a circle. Very much like 2+2=5. If anyone disagrees they'll be taken to room 101.
-
another way: draw a pixel and then spin the screen really fast. I mean the actual CRT or LCD display.
-
we could maybe start off with bio-chips that produce analog electric signals rather than digital ones, then have these signals fed directly into our brains. Perfect circle. And a smelly and material one too!! :icon_supe

My A4 jpgs are 'only' about 3-4MB. I am printing them with MS Publisher with excellent results.

I though about that so as not to have an E3 map which would be 95% sea. I do realise though that adopting this trick could lead to confusion when going from a map on coloumn D to a map on coloumn E.

it's not as big as you might think; all together it shoulb be no more than 12 or 13 A4 sides. What AM I going to do with it? I'm putting each printed sheet in a plastic folder, you know the ones you put in ringbinders. I bought a black and a red whiteboard marker so that I can write on the plastic folder and erase with my fingers, so as to plot temporary points of interest on the map (e.g. target location, IPs for attack run, threat zones, ecc.). After that... well, what more do I need to do? Anyways, I am adding much more detail to the maps (realistic markings for railways and power-lines, peaks, lighthouses, etc.), but I'll post them all together when they're finished. If you are serious about piloting your Hog or about VFR in general, maps are a MUST and I am sure you will enjoy these when they're ready.

(Removed big images)

I can't believe no one is as enthusiastic as I am about these maps... :( hog pilots where are you  well... just a bump so this doesn't fall waaaaaaaaaay down :icon_toil

update ok, i've worked on it a bit more, and i've mapped this area of Crimea: (Removed big images) it is split up into 7 jpg files which are available here let me know if you find them useful, what you think of them and what you would like to see added/changed. First thing I'll do will be to re-write the names of most towns so as to make them legible. What I would then like is to add info to the map: stuff such as peak elevations, landmarks which can make navigation easier, maybe IPs of ILS paths.
-
update here is the kind of finished product i have in mind: (Removed big images) http://www.ilcilum.org/images/map_test.jpg for the full detail file. Looks to me like it's not got enough detail for good vfr & attack planning... The image is 19cmx28cm at 300dpi for printing in A4, though I haven't quite managed that yet. what do you think?
-
Beautiful!! I am thinking of dividing the map into A4-paper-sized rectangles about 35x50miles and print them all out. I think that would be in just about the right detail.
-
I am currently working on a veeeeery big map of Crimea, making a collage from deatiled in-game screenshots of the map. I am doing this to enable me and my squadron to do some proper VFR training with our A-10's. What do you think? I say it :icon_supe This is the area I have mapped until now: (Removed big images) the detail of the map though is like this: (Removed big images)
