  1. Well, I've heard a lot of bad things about A10 so far, so I don't think my computer could handle it. I think this is what happened with Arma 2, and why it runs so badly. As for Crysis, from some of the old benchmarking videos shown, it looks like were going to be able to double our FPS. They completely redid the lighting system, which was probably the most power hungry element. Were just going to have to wait for a few more months to see what the engine can really do. But those videos sure look promising. Someone on MyCrysis had said they thought Crytek was being secretive because they didn't want the XBox types to see what the PC could do with CE3, keeping them hooked on the thought that the PC wouldn't be any different, and thus they would just go out and by the XBox game. Which of course, they're going to charge the hell of out of them for. I scoffed at that till now. I wondered why they were keeping the PC version so secret and not showing any video or even pics of it. I think now, that Crysis 2 really never was made for the PC. Its just a money making venture to build a simple XBox game for mega sales to kids. Any real PC game/sim built on CryEngine 3 is yet to come. I kind of wonder now, if they're going to give us the sandbox editor and modding tools like they did last time. They seem to have far loftier goals in mind this time.
  2. Conure, I see you have an i5 750. I imagine it handles Shark great. Cause i've got a low end 2.2 Ghz AMD Turion, with a Radeon 5400 Mobile in it. And it handles Shark pretty well. So, I don't believe that a high end machine with Shark and CE3 together couldn't handle it. And from what I've seen of the military, they like PCs.
  3. Offline only. Black Shark. Reason is, while I enjoy learning the aircraft to the fullest, I find the world its in pretty bland and boring. No human intelligence on the ground, lots of plains and large mountains, Falcon IV type world. So, basically, I'm really only interested in learning the heli. I only play FPS - Arma 2 / Infiltration / True Combat / Crysis Wars online. Basically, FPS with realism as close as they could get it, and a living world. I'd love to fly realistic aircraft online in a world like that, but the world of Shark just doesn't do it for me.
  4. Oh, sorry, I see your from the UK. American slang. 100 dollar bills. Called "Benjamins" because of the picture of Benjamin Franklin on them.
  5. I see lawsuits!
  6. Hmm. I think its called "shift". Rotating your mouse wheel should zoom in and out. But if you press mouse wheel and hold it down, then move your mouse side to side, or forward and back, your pilot should shift his head and upper body around the cockpit. That's why its called 6DO. I have one of the old, standard microsoft mice, so there may be a difference with yours.
  7. If your near hover, usually greater than 5 meters / second. There's actually a switch on the collective ( you have to use a keypress in game ) that lets you down at a sustained 2 or 3 meters per second, to keep you from accidentally entering Vortex Ring. It will stop you at 4 meters radar altitude. If your moving fast, you can of course descend faster ( I've done dives at 30 meters / second easy ) because your leaving the spent air behind you and quickly moving into fresh air. The other thing you want to watch out for, do not descend below 4 meters radar altitude in auto hover, or you will lose your autopilot, which is not good in this not so stable helicopter. I guess emergency autopilot release kicks in. Your autopilot buttons will be flashing.
  8. Yeah, I don't see that much difference in their engine then in what we have in DCS. Its prettier, but its pretty much the same simple terrain.
  9. Zoom is your forward and backward, as far as I can tell. To move up and down, and side to side, hold down the wheel key on your mouse, then move the mouse. I have the same problem, low end laptop with no numkey pad. You'll have to go into the key assignments in options to change things to fit. I know the 5 key on the numpad will jerk you back to center. You really need to be able to move in this sim to get some of those posts in the heli out your way when your trying to keep an eye on targets. There's also a padlock view in game, but its kind of hard to use.
  10. Actually, not many in the more serious Crysis Wars servers either. Anything anti-armor or anti-material like is usually very expensive. So, they become kind of rare. And you could do other things to make it more realistic. Actually, I think being able to reload on vihkers is somewhat unrealstic. Those things must be pretty expensive. The boss is going to want you to use those rockets and cannon before you come back for more vihkers. . Real battles aren't fought on dry plains. If you've ever played Crysis with its realistic terrain, your going to realize you'll have to get a lot closer than that. You might catch some tanks out in the open, but your going to have to get some height, and that going to bring some attention to you. But like I've said before, were used to mass death. While you shooting your vihker, some team you failed to see has gotten near you with a anti-aircraft weapon. There's lots of cover in game. Or even some sniper with a 12.7 or 20mm Anti-Material rifle. And on another note, I just found out RealTime Immersive is actually one of Crytek's Studios, not a seperate company. I was thinking Crytek sold them an Engine license, and they had put in more stuff. But actually, this is the standard CE3 engine at work! :p
  11. Well, lets end it. I would love to see BS in a CE3 map. For those of us that are interested, were really going to have to wait to see what CE3 is going to be able to do though, because so far, Crytek is being really secretive about it, even though Crysis 2 is only 3 months away from release. I love the heli, I just want to see it in a better, more capable world. The videos and pics from RealTime Immersive give me a lot of hope. Lol, you weren't the first, and you won't be the last. Your just currently the best. Others will follow. I'm sure there are people like me in the military who are thinking they also want a better world, with combat against human ground troops. RealTime Immersive looks like they're going that route. And I'm hoping they release something to the public.
  12. You should talk to a guy on CryMod named CWright. He's been working on getting planes into Crysis now for two years. He's pretty good. No where near DCS of course, but good simple flight. He might be able to help you with some code. I hope Crytek takes note of what he's doing. And I know the flight sim types say that FPS people will hate being killed by bombs, etc. Actually, we have mini-nukes in Crysis that kill far more players at once, and were used to it.
  13. Lol, well I probably won't be building it, but I'm sure with the new CE3, someone will. Those videos prove its being worked on. I was just playing around with the old CE2 looking down from 3 km at an Island, and still getting 35 fps on my old laptop. Thats what I like about CryEngine. Its very tweakable and adjustable. So you can push the limits with it. I saw in one of the new CE3 pics, there was a predator WAY UP, and there was no limited vis. Not that anybody could ever stick that many objects in a map. Would be crazy. Looked really nice. Good things to come. Here it is, the pic of the Predator drone. http://www.rt-immersive.com/?id=8 I have nothing against the world of DCS, its just that it looks like old Falcon IV tech ( 20 years old? ). Plus, I'd really like some human ground troops to fight against in places. Time for new tech.
  14. Lol, just keep thinking that.
  15. Thats fine. The people like me will be waiting for what were in those CE3 videos. Thats what we want. An FPS with realistic flight simulation. 100 km ranges are enough for me, and I'm sure CE3 is going to be able to handle it.
  16. Well, I think the AMRAAM has a 20km? attack range? Something like that. Medium range missile. Some of our older missiles had greater ranges, but I think they were all SARH, while the AMRAAM is ARH. As for 200km long missions, I'm not that much into it. Mostly, in the missions I make, I like to a few klicks away from the action. Just enough time to setup my weapons and the shkval and start looking for targets and cover as I'm going in.
  17. I'm not a huge fan of the Arma 2 engine. I like some things they've done with it, and its a living world, but my real love is the CE2 engine. Arma 2 engine really takes a lot of power to not do that much. Even in CWright's 100 km 2 ( I think thats what it was ) map at 60000 feet, I had no problems viewing the whole of the map. It says 60000 on my diagnostics readout, so I'm assuming its feet. All I know is, you could see a lot further than I've ever seen in an FPS game. There were only a few objects on it, and it was just mostly raw terrain like in BS, but still, pretty amazing for my low end machine. CE2 is kind of strange. Map size does not seem to affect FPS that badly. Supposedly, CE3 is going to be a whole lot more FPS friendly. Crysis 2 is supposed to come out in March and it looks like nothing but an XBox game, but what most PC players are waiting to get their hands on is the CE3 and Sandbox 3. Its been strange over the last 2 years of waiting, because Crytek has been very mum on even the computer stats that we'll need to run Crysis 2, and they've shown no screens or videos of PC play. So, hopefully, in around 2 months, we'll all get to see just what the Engine can really do at great heights. All in all though, I like a good knife fight with covering terrain, pop up attacks, and rockets / cannon / gun sight. A copter like the BS would be devastating in Crysis. The real threat would be sneaky infantry patrols with RPGs coming out of the jungle. Down and dirty.
  18. An interesting thought, and probably somewhat doable, but it still leaves the pilot with a somewhat bland world. My bets still on putting a sim in CE3.
  19. He means the Vertical Velocity Indicator. You don't want to drop too fast at a hover ( I wouldn't go past 5 Meters / Sec ), or you end up falling into your own spent down wash, and drop like a rock. The best way I've found to get out of it is bank hard sideways. Seems to get you out of it faster, than banking forward. Of course, if your too close to the ground, your just dead.
  20. Dude, there's a total amateur programmer over at Crymod doing just the things you say can't be done. Its an engine. You can change it to do whatever you want. And flight models are just math. I think you are mistaking the Engine with the Game. @Tharos - you saw the videos. Obviously, that company is ready to go the next step, and use CryEngine 3 for their sim's world. In the end, my purchase will always be with the company that pushes the limits the most.
  21. I do seriously miss the one in Falcon IV. It was interesting coming across "strangers" on other missions. Once watched a group of B-52s on a bombing run going into their target as I was midway to my target. That was neat.
  22. And in the end, you have nothing again but pure flight sim with no world. Eventually, no matter how good your sim is, other sims, who got the message and used something like CryEngine 3 will totally surpass you. And we don't have to have small worlds like Arma. CryEngine can do immense worlds. CWright on CryMod has proven that, even though Crytek didn't exactly want to support that in CE2. I'm pretty sure they are going to do so in CE3. I love a good flight sim, but I need a world to fly it in. And if you don't like good debate, don't post. Ignore the thread. Go find others to read. Don't think you can limit free speech here.
  23. Were customers, its what we do. As for Arma, I could fly the BS over an area that size, hiding and popping. I would like to see, say, four times bigger for a heli sim. I do agree its too small for jets and the A10 though.
  24. LOL, exactly!
