  1. Lol. I get the feeling some of you flight simmers are just scared of actual ground troops. Hopefully, after they get through making the ground vehicles better, the A.C.E. 2 mod team in Arma 2 will start working on the aircraft. And it won't take them a decade, lol.
  2. Oh, I wouldn't say a decade, lol. The way Nvidia and AMD want you to buy their new video cards, it will come. In order for them to sell, there has to be a game / sim that pushes the limits of their abilities. Plus, there are plenty of people like me who want to see real flight sims combine with hardcore FPS.
  3. Yes, life is hell when they haven't made the sim your looking for yet. I've pretty much learned all the systems except for the radio now on the copter and am decent in its flight control. My problem now is there is no Arma 2 or Crysis like world to fly it in. The flight sim is great, but the world sucks. As for having people roaming around in a continent, you could do like Crysis does and just put in a player barrier around the high detail "sandbox" part of the map. The rest of the world could just be for aircraft. Most vehicle / infantry FPS battles take place on small parts of the map, even in Arma. I've yet to see anyone want to jog all over the map of Arma 2. The whole map is really meant only for flying. They just haven't made the sim I'm looking for yet. Complete, real simulation in all aspects. BS combined with Arma 2 would be a start. Add in Crysis TOD and terrain detail, and it would be awesome.
  4. Did you hit lock - [Enter] key, to ground stabilize it?
  5. I don't know. I think Arma 2 looks pretty good from 8000 meters in an Su-27. Now you may have a point with looking at the horizon, as Arma 2 has it fade out really quick. At that high, I always feel I'm in a pea soup fog with a hole in the middle.
  6. Lol, yeah, I've learned that. Even .50 cal can bring you down quick. Tanks and Strykers in a group can be REALLY nasty.
  7. After learning startup, your first job in flight should be to learn the trimmer. Hitting the trimmer button will reset the dead zones on your rudder and cyclic. So, when you take your hand off them, they stay where they were when you hit the trimmer. If you have the autopilot on, and you should, the autopilot will also try to keep pitch, bank, and yaw where they are when you hit the trimmer. So, two systems working together. Also, if you hit the hold altitude button on the autopilot, the computer will try to keep your altitude steady. The computer though will only do this within 20% of the movement of the controls. This allows you fly with it on, but large wind gusts etc can push the copter around beyond this 20% control. If you push the collective beyond 20% to go higher or lower, and then stabilize, you can hit the "F" key, to engage and then release the collective brake, which will reset the "hold altitudes" set height to what you are stabilized at now. Now, use the trimmer liberally, all the time. It helps with flight in combat immensely. Another thing to know is the GunSight switch. Takes you from Shkval, which takes a lot of doing and attention, to a simple gunsight fixed at 1100 meters for up close knife fights. Great when used with the cannon against other aircraft and also useful with rockets against tanks, vehicles, and infantry.
  8. Yeah, but I'd like to bring realism into those worlds. That's the problem. You can always have one or the other but never both. Most people argue it would need too powerful a graphics card or CPU, but I think we've pretty much cleared that hurdle now. The arguments against it are getting old. I'd also argue that since Arma 2 is out and has been well played, you also have a way of seeing all the mistakes that were made in it. Like the really HORRIBLE movement model. Like trying to maneuver a drunken sailor around. But you also have a template from it and the A.C.E. 2 mod of all the reality that was stuck into it, like bullet drop and mil dot scopes. Then, combine it with the Time of Day of Crysis, and you would have the best sim ever made.
  9. @Conure- Yeah, the flight sim in Arma 2 is utter crap. Hopefully, the A.C.E. 2 group will get to working on that one day.
  10. Yeah, and having learned most of the basics now, it feels like there's not much else to do with it. It was fun and interesting, but its kind of like finishing the end of a book. Thats it.
  11. Yeah, I've done that, but still not that impressed. Its still only flight sim. I like full MP worlds like Crysis and Arma 2. Crysis being the best so far.
  12. Well, the problem is the flight sim is outstanding. Unfortunately, at the end of the day, thats it. Period. The AI is either stupid or suicidal. The terrain is boring. The objects are very low in graphics. Its not much of a world. What I'm looking for is the realistic flight sim of BS in Arma 2 or Crysis. Like I said, once you learn the plane, there's really not much else to do. Now, I'd like to see how to stick this heli into a much more realistic world like Crysis or Arma 2. Really, I don't know how DCS can keep in business with flight sim only. People these days want combined FPS/Vehicle Sim/Flight Sim. This is the present and the future.
  13. Well, this sims been interesting, and it was great learning how to fly a heli, but in the end, its kind of boring. Without any real FPS action, in the end, its just a shooting gallery. The AI is pretty stupid, and so doesn't give much fun. The tanks just sit there. The terrain is bland, flat, and uninteresting. What the developers of this sim need to do is make add ons for Crysis or Arma 2. Especially Crysis. Now that would be interesting. As it is now, now that I've learned all the basics, there's just not much to do with that knowledge in game. There's just no multiplayer world.
  14. Interesting, I can never hit them from the side. My Vhikers seem to chase them and then, nothing. Tried vhikers against an Mi-28 last night, same thing. Was only able to hit him after I got behind him. Then brought him down with one vhiker. Still have problems with the Apaches though, even from behind. They're blown to hell, but they just won't drop.
  15. Yeah, their tails seem to be the most vulnerable. But now try killing their engines.
  16. Yeah, but thats in game. I was talking about the real shkval, because there are no objects in the real world. From what I researched on it, it appears that the real pilots have to hit reset to cancel lock. Which, if you look at it, makes sense. Since there are no "objects" in the real world, the shkval just keeps lock wherever you slew it, on the grass, at windows, at rocks, etc. Until you hit reset. I would love to use it against snipers leaning out a window. I was reading somewhere that the new optical technology coming out is going to allow target ID up to about 10km. I think it was on the Mig-35 (Super Mig-29). That will be nice. Its really hard to tell sometimes just exactly what your shooting at, and I question why we do not get a clearer picture on the shkval. I've yet to see any pics of an active screen on the real one though.
  17. Well, I stick by what I say. From all I've pieced together, I think I'm right. The only other thing I can see on the real copter is you might loose lock going from high to low magnification, and not sure what would happen if you slewed to the blank sky or really far away. In real life, there are no "objects" like in game.
  18. Well, some of those Strykers have some pretty magic rounds. :P
  19. Lol, never say never. As you say, this is a single seater. Pretty unique. I think its pretty much a slow, on and off, experiment.
  20. Though I like reality, this is still somewhat of an experimental copter and I wouldn't mind seeing some Igla mounts, FLIR, RWR, R73, ECM, and chaff mods. Just for fun and experiment. The copter probably will have some of these in future versions.
  21. I'm talking about in the real copter. I don't think there is any other way than reset.
  22. Yeah, it looks pretty thin, but then look at the cockpit door. It looks thin too, yet it can stop 23mm. I don't know what to think from those pics.
  23. Yeah, I've never tried to shoot down a Hind, only Apaches so far. And the 30mm seems to work well enough against them. Its just the vhikers that don't seem to work. And if you look at the copter with F2, its shredded to hell, but still flying ok.
  24. Lets put it this way. I think even Crysis has better flight simulation than Arma 2.
  25. I believe in the real Shark, there is no unlock. You just hold down lock while you slew to another target. The only way to unlock is to hit the reset button next to the laser on/off switch [backspace]. This resets and cages the shkval. Of course, in reality, you can lock up the ground, a boulder, etc. Which is why I want FPS in this sim. Watch out, snipers!
