  1. War is not chess, and who ever said fair is fun? There's nothing fair about the VTOLs in Crysis, and their fun because they make you really have to think, adapt, and try harder to accomplish your goals. At first, I really hated them, but now, I'm used to them, and have gotten better because of the little nasties like them.
  2. And we Crysis players are totally used to it. I've seen 30 people spaced far apart get killed when a mini-nuke hit the base. Doesn't phase us. Just got to send in more troops. This is the reality of war fought with modern weapons. Look at Arma 2. In pitched battle, I've seen a Tunguska take down 3 A-10s before a maverick got him. Again, reality. There are nasty little weapons all over the battlefield that can take down a plane. No one is just going to hand you air-superiority. In the mission Battle, that's a pilots dream. In reality, there would have been far nastier AAA down there. Thats what countermeasures and cover were made for. But there seems to be very little cover, if any, in BS. This is why I really want to see a good heli mod in CryEngine 3.
  3. That is exactly what I've been trying to say. What happened to the world? Its straight from Falcon 4.0. At least you could have given us Arma. This is a helicopter sim. We don't need a whole a region. A map the size of Arma 2 would have been fine. You guys need to link up with that team that is using CryEngine 3, or I suspect they're going to leave you in the dust one day. The days of Pure Flight Sim are over. We have real computers now.
  4. That exactly what I think. Even good AI just doesn't cut it in the end. And the terrain reminds me of Kansas with large mountains.
  5. Oh, please, I wouldn't touch COD with a stick. If you want good FPS - Its Crysis or Arma 2.
  6. Yeah, they need a little work. But all, in all, its a pretty good world. It can be worked on to make it better. Plus, this is YouTube quality. But the real thing is, so much can be emulated in this engine. Its a living, breathing world.
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD8tDk63RS0 At the beginning and the end.
  8. I was about to say, hasn't this already been done? OA, BAF, ACE 2.
  9. Heh, I can just imagine as I'm trying to refuel and rearm, some guy jumps out of the bushes with a power tool and starts dismantling my heli. I guess thats what we carry pistols for.
  10. Yeah, I kind of discovered on of their tricks when messing around with lighting in their engine. I had it dark and I noticed that light coming out of one the bunkers ended at the intersection of the door and the ground. They use a lot of vis portals in their maps. Not great, but I'm sure it saves some FPS.
  11. Lol, you shot High Explosive rounds at a tank. Those are not meant for use against armor. Look them up on Wikipedia, and compare them to armor piercing shot. Huge difference. HE is meant for use against trucks, jeeps, and infantry. Their basically fast, small grenades. They can pierce thin aluminum and sheet steel, but not much else. Use armor piercing depleted uranium rounds against tanks. Also, rockets with shaped charge warheads. If you want a mix of rockets, I think you can load S8 AP and S8 HE together, one pod on each wing. S8 HE rockets are devastating against trucks and inf. Now, on the A10, it loads a mixture of HE and API, I think 4 API, and 1 HE for every 5 rounds. The HE is too kill any inf that may be beside a tank and also to let it engage inf units on the ground.
  12. Well, it'll fire. Whether the missile makes it into the laser tunnel is another thing. The reason you have to line up with the target is that the laser makes a tunnel, really wide at first to catch the beam riding missle in it, then it narrows it down as the missle rides it to the target in a death spiral. As Ethereal said, its looks to just be a bug. And dude, that close, your knife fighting. Use your rockets or cannon for a quick kill, before he gets you with his .50 .
  13. I get this too. For some reason, the copter is stopping us from firing. Everything in your pics looks ok. As Power said, the only thing I can ever think of is to just flip launch control to override.
  14. Well, CWright did a HUGE map in Crysis for a flight sim test. I think it was 100 km sq. Now, it only had a few objects on an airstrip where you took off, and the rest was just textured ground, but it seemed to run fine. I went up to about 60,000 ft so I could view the whole map, and it wasn't any problem at all. Now, as you add more objects, its going to take more memory and more drawing, but I think Crysis uses a lot tricks to get drawing amounts down. You can find him and his flight sim mod on the CryMod.com forums.
  15. Hit ALT-C, until you see the little + cursor sign, then use your mouse wheel to zoom in and out. If you hold down the wheel button, you can also shift up and down, and side to side, which helps when your trying to find a target. Hit 5 on the numpad to quickly recenter.
  16. Well, I have a low level rig with a Radeon 5400 and a 2.2 ghz Turion. It can run Crysis at about 20 FPS in Medium Level. BS runs well at medium too. CE3 is supposed to run at double the FPS of CE2, so I think BS + CE3 would run well on a High End rig with something like a GTX 470 or 480.
  17. Yeah, its nice, but you have a good point. Actually, there's a guy name CWright on CryMod whose been trying to develop simple flight simulation in Crysis, but the problem is that you have to do really weird things to get lots of land mass in Crysis, so while we can see from height, no real maps have ever been built. Hopefully, CE3 solves the map size problem. They'll have to solve it, if they want to enter into military contracts. I hope you'll end up working together. That would be great.
  18. Now thats a good world. I think this is what the Crysis developers have been trying to hide. They've been only showing XBox grade videos of Crysis 2 so far. I hope this is what the PC version is going to be like in all its glory. I think some things weren't as good as CryEngine 2.0, but CryEngine 3.0 is supposed to take a whole lot less power to run. So it will be very interesting to see when it comes out in 3 months (March).
  19. Well, I'll leave it at this. In the end, I think your simulation of the Ka-50 is excellent. I just hate what passes for a world.
  20. "Infantry DO NOT fight aircraft". I think that is typical Western thought, and a good reason we would lose against the Russians or Chinese, who are prepared to take on anything. I think a unit of soldiers should be able to take on anything they can. If its slow and low, even an RPG can take out a heli. This is why we lost Vietnam. In Crysis, you don't slow down to take a look at something, unless your absolutely sure the area is clear. And you really never know. This is why I've gotten bored with BS. Its just sit on the edge of the battlefield and fire Vhickers. There's no cover. You can't do pop up attacks, etc. If you want to use you rockets and gun, you have to go full suicide run and then try to roll out the minute you fire. Its just a blank plain. Even the trees aren't real. And besides that, I like fighting against human intelligence. Not really dumb AI. "As for your 'MANPADS is laser guided' trifle, in reality we have MLWS+DIRCM to deal with such pesky threats, for those aircraft that equip such a system." Well, I've yet to see it.
  21. Hee He, whats the matter Bogus, afraid of a little stinger? That's what you got flares for. Of course, they wouldn't do you any good in Crysis. The manpads are laser guided. No defense, you just run for cover and dodge. And Conure, were actually quit used to that in Crysis. You think the A-10 kills a lot of people? A Crysis VTOL would wipe it out of the sky. The VTOL is the scourge of Crysis. It pretty much kills anything that gets in its way. We've had to get used to it. I'll quote what the game flashed up last night - "Spectre is on a rampage with 20 kills in a row". He was flying a VTOL. Were totally used to it. You actually need to add about 10 more names to the kills of Pr0pilot52. And actually, it makes the game really hard, which makes you even more into it, and more determined to earn enough points to buy a weapon or vehicle that might be able to take it on. Of course, good Crysis players would have known not to take it on, head on, like these fools did. The server wasn't called NoobHunters for nothing. :megalol:
  22. There is a virtual speed tape strip that appears sometimes ( I can't remember exactly in what modes ) in your upper left part of your HUD. It shows when you are at speed. It disappears when you are nearing standstill. So, when it disappears, you know you are going slow and should start trying to carefully come to a stop. Its easy to overshoot and start going backwards, which the three digit speed indicator will show just as if you were going forwards. Watch your HSI ( The thing with the crosshair). When you hit Auto-Hover on, it will show your drift from the initial point. Try to bring the copter as steady as you can, then hit the trimmer. The point will reset, and probably start drifting again slightly. You might be in a wind, and have to bank into it to stay over a point. Trimmer again, and keep doing it till the heli stays where it is. Remember, the auto-pilot only has 20% control over the heli. So, it can only give 20% push over the cyclic, rudder, and collective. If your drifting up or down, hitting F will reset the altitude for the altitude hold. If it doesn't stop, then go up or down on collective as needed to steady, then hit F again. F is the brake on the collective. Another thing to remember when at height. IAS is what your dial indicator shows, but I think the numbers in the hud show TAS, which is different. At height, TAS is a more true indication of your real speed, and IAS will show lower than it really is, which mean its easy to cross your blades before the warning alarm for speed goes off. Also, don't do hard right rudder at high speed. Do left rudder. This will keep your blades from crossing. Right brings them together. Left pulls them apart.
  23. Yeah, I don't understand why people like DCS don't try to join up with FPS's like ARMA, unless they feel the FPS people might try to limit them. This flight simulation put into ARMA 2 would be a dream, and also might spark some players to learn real flight simulation, as where before they probably would never have thought of it. I just don't see how people like DCS survive. Though I really hope they continue to make it. Flight sims are a dying market, just like infantry only FPS, being swallowed up by the new multi-genre FPS sims. @Conure - I wouldn't call HAWX flight simulation. Thats all XBox stuff, which is a genre in itself. Like Crysis 2, which is going to fall on its face in the PC market, because PC only Crysis 1 rips it to shreds. Its just an XBox port. All Arcade stuff. Crysis, like Arma 2, is one of the new attempts at bringing flight, vehicle, and inf FPS all together into one world. Crysis is kind of arcadish, but Arma 2, while not having as good graphics, really did well in the infantry part, with such things as calculated bullet drop, actual mil-dot scopes, bullet drift from wind, realistic rifles, etc. An ongoing mod called A.C.E. 2 continues to add reality to it, mostly in the infantry department. Also, vehicle wise, but I think they don't know much about how to change the flight models, or work with the aircraft ( the worst part of the sim ). Oh, and I never said the AI in Crysis was good. I was talking about the terrain, detail and TOD. The AI in Crysis is "fair", maybe, but I only ever play MP. "...But I'd love to fly my su25 or Ka50 in a battlefield like BF2 and do what I do best. This will NEVER happen. The days of the flight sim are therefore nearing their end. ...After DCS:A10 and SoW it will likely be over for us and we'll be Goblins and Platoon leaders just like everyone else with a PS3." - Smokin Hole Which is the problem I'm worried about, too. Which is why we need to try to get good flight sims into games like Arma 2 and Crysis, and get others interested. This would also help bring down joystick costs. Or sooner or later, there's going to be none of us left, and the companies will just say great, something we don't have to bother with anymore. More money for us.
  24. Hey, I was being nice till some people decided to get nasty. Guess what? I can be nasty right back.
