  1. It made a big difference for me because most of my skins are bmp files and in 2048x2048 res. For example, if i add all my skins together, this will give me a total of 2.48 gigs. After converting them to cdds, its only 539 mb (so almost 1/4 the size without the quality lost). Once you carefully read through the tutorial, it is fairly easy to use. And it is something you should invest some time into. I never did focus on the fps counter and did a comparison between the transition from bmp to cdds so I can't give you any hard data, but you can defiantly see it in game. For example, if the new A-10 model had the skins in the temptexture folder, it would slow the game to a griding halt because its using 4 massive 2048x2048 bmp files rather than 2 files like the other planes. But once it was in cdds, it is playable again.
  2. also, be sure most of your skins are NOT in your temptexture folder. Rather, convert them to cdds, that will save you quite a bit of fps. if you don't know how to covert it, this tutorial will teach you everything you need to know http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=28577&highlight=cdds+tutorial
  3. very nice guys, any chance you can create pilers to fly through. So it would be a static object that we can place on land or sea and have a little red bull air race going on.
  4. we know how to add simple lines into the meinit, HOWEVER, when it came to the A-10, there was A LOT of lines to add. And it was just wayy too much for a scripted line, that is why we are still finding an easier way. The problem is, if you go back and change something in the model, it might destroy the unwrap. So basically it causes a ripple effect and screws up the skin, damage model, animations...etc. that is one of the main reason why we can't go back. Please try to understand this concept, because unless you are in Yeniceri's shoes, this is asking for a lot. Especially for a free mod.
  5. yea because if you just change how the animation works (in your mind it might seem easy) but then you have to push back the interior of the airbrake. And then you gotta worry about the skin...etc. So yea that was missed during the early part, it was kinda hard to tell these things when the plane was blue without a skin.
  6. also, could you uninstall the A-10 via modman from your lock on and see if the problem persist?
  7. So none of you guys have any type of cockpit mods installed? Because from the looks of this, this shouldn't be the model's problem because it looks like your textures are all messed up. I can understand tanks problem could be the model's fault, like the seating position is wrong, but based on the other photos, i see black textures on huds, mirrors, and bottom seat, that shouldn't be the models fault. I know this is a shot in the dark here, but if you guys don't have a cockpit mod installed, how about try and install one. Maybe some of the new textures would replace the corrupted textures. For example, try this one http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=75&lid=191&ttitle=A-10_Cockpit_Mod_V.2#dldetails
  8. hmm, that's strange. I notice most of you guys have the same graphics card Nvidia 8800 GTS 512
  9. to polten, download it from a different website. Because i believe someone reported something was wrong off of the simwolf website mirror. As a temp solution, i heard turning off reflection works. to tank, did you try a variety of graphics driver? Similar to what polten did, like using 169.xx...etc.
  10. i remember i read someone did that, and then the plane just floated downstream. so that would be interesting to see.
  11. yea but they might end up moving it to the chit-chat forum anyway lol. Because it doesn't exactly have to do with DCS. But sounds good though.
  12. we were already aware of the nose, but like the readme stated, there won't be any updates and any details left now if very small. We wish you like the model, if not, just uninstall it. No one is forcing you to install it.
  13. btw, if you like the blue angels, do you know about this group? the virtual Blue Angels for lock on? They created a mod that includes all new single seat F/A-18A's, a 2 seat F/A-18B, a C-130T, Blue Angels hangar from Pensacola FL, Comm-Cart, Show center marker truck, and a bunch of other goodies. Read more here http://www.virtualblueangels.net/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=1611&FID=2&PR=3
  14. Sorry, it was getting hard to track the problems from the compliments in the main A-10 thread, so ONLY POST HERE, if you are having problems with it or if you have a solution. And this thread is strictly only problems, not suggestions for improvements because as stated in the readme: there won't be any update to the model. But we do wish to help you. The 3 main problems we are focusing right now is the: 1.) Weird cockpit position- where you are inside the belly of the aircraft 2.) The black reflection when you look front of your cockpit Solution: Set your shadows to all panels rather than full. 3.) White skin (or no skin). Solution: Some people are installing it with modman 5 or installing it manually. The reason we wanted you guys to install with the latest modman (6.3.xx) is that it can add lines to the graphics.cfg automatically. So be sure and check that you have the cdds entries in that file We are aware of some of the other bugs, but the main focus are these three because its pretty hard to use the new A-10 while dealing with this. We want to isolate the problem because only a few percentage of people is actually having this problem. So when you post here, tell us: Exactly which problem you are dealing with (maybe with a screenshot) Your system specs: 1.) Your cpu 2.) ram 3.) and graphics card (this is the main thing so be detailed about it) 4.) what is your graphics driver 5.) have you updated or downgrade your driver (sometimes the newer one sucks) Also tell us: 6.) how did you install lock on, what version 7.) did you use the latest modman to install it. Did you replace the meinit file? 8.) and what other mods do you have installed (this is also very important- my guess for the black reflection is that it is conflicting with no scratch mod or something) 9.) Which download link did you get it from? 10.) have you tried redownloading it again from another mirror site? And PLEASE PLEASE, go through the readme. A lot of the problems that are coming up is due to the user not installing it correctly. We spent a lot of time making the comprehensive readme- so please take 5 min to look over it. Also, it is very important you guys be as specific as possible as to what mods you have installed, how did you install it, and graphics driver. Because its very hard to pinpoint the exact problem because most of us don't see what you guys are seeing.
  15. and for the record, in the future, comparing a model picture to a real picture is never a good reference since your angle is wayyy off. If you are off by just a little bit (which you are on those 2 pictures), everything doesn't look right. You have to compare it to reference layouts, not pictures.
  16. again, please read the readme Q: I found some details on the A-10 are missing; will there be an update in the future? A: No, there will not be any updates to the Hog. The Sim-mod team will move onto other projects. Some details were not incorporated either due to fps reasons or the object was too small (hence it caused more trouble than it’s worth). In addition, any changes to the model itself might destroy the unwrap. Q: Walmis F-15 had regular updates, why can’t we have it on the A-10? A: Walmis F-15 had the ability to be updated since it used the same skin as the stock F-15 (but a lot of parts didn’t fit). It was also an ongoing project when he released it to the public, ours is a completely finished model with all the works and new skin. So I believe you will be satisfied with the amount of detail that went into this model. It is currently the most detailed A-10 model in any simulator that I am aware of. (And it’s free too!)
  17. Read the readme, it is recommenced to uninstall walmis weapons pack. Since there was many faults with it. Not only model wise, but sometimes it didn't line up correctly...etc.
  18. You can look at the last few pages for flanker, mig, and su-25 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=18484&page=31 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=24836 However, none of these models are a priority right now so that's why they are not finished. I believe these models are intended only for DCS, and will not come in a patch or whatever for FC (otherwise that will be more like an addon rather than a patch). Plus i also heard they are using a newer .lom format, for example, the one they gave us doesn't have such arguments such as engine spinning, but the newer ones probably does. So it probably won't even function fully in FC. IMHO. don't quote me on anything, i'm just speculating.
  19. yea we all have to wait. I was involved with the A-10 project for a year, (actually 2 years from the very start). So just be patient.
  20. *cough* let it be a priority model *cough* lol jk, but what i would like to see become a priority is the flanker that's also being worked on by skylark.
  21. the widescreen was not intended for the A-10, i just saw your screenshot and realized you were not running on the correct ratio. Try updating your graphics driver.
  22. well there's 2 F-16 models being worked on http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=26870 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=29987
  23. wow lots of interesting things in there. Very well made. lol did anyone count how many helicopters were burning up in that movie.
