  1. Thats not great for situational awareness though? And you would be able to 'padlock' your view in real life to a missile or threat aircraft. Its more for convenience and control rather for defeating realism. Also, another reason for using the map (and I tend to agree with you on the part of realism) is because it is sometimes just too difficult to spot an airfield, even when you are close by.
  2. Answer to both is that I don't want to reinstall the software thats on it.
  3. Just realised another thing, the drive I want to clone onto new drive is MBR partition table. No biggie as its not going to be a bootable drive and its not more than 2TB. If I were to switch to GPT then I would have to reinstall the other software.
  4. I've got an issue between lights and shadows. Basically cockpit is too dark to read instruments but outside is fine. This was with gamma set 1.4, turned it up but outside is now a bit washed out. It was a lot worse when facing the sun, ie guages in shadow. Also noticing a lot of smears and reflection on cockpit glass and instrument screens. I've tried the shaders mod and I don't think it made any difference. I understand its for realism, but I don't mind reducing realism to be able to see.
  5. Have you switched mouselook mode? (LAlt+C). I do this (mapped to mouse button 3) and it works fine for me.
  6. I have the same issue in v2.5.6. I did not realise it was a bug though.
  7. I guess most of you will have track IR. But even then do you use padlock views? eg to padlock to an aircraft(s) or incoming missile(s). I use a finger hat on throttle for view commands, up is map centre is cockpit, down is HUD only, which leaves right and left for missile and aircraft. Missile to target is also useful for checking kill, but not essential. But the question is what command do you use? I managed to get padlock to nearest aircraft but its out of the cockpit not hugely realistic. I guess another question would be what map view do you use? I tend to use fixed map rather than locked to aircraft, as the latter tends to be zoomed in too much and its a pain to zoom out when you are flying. Ideally it would switch upon repeat press of the button, I guess I could map zoom to a slider but still not ideal (eg for landing when you want to see taxi & parking).
  8. Took some fire, splashed bandits and returned home. Lost a lot of control so slight mishap on landing, did 180 under braking and faced back to where I came, but still walking away from this one. nice skin, I used to have that pattern on a model aircraft. Where did you get it? nullBuzzing the tower & strip in Vegas

    mic/headset

Looking for some advise on getting a mic, probably head wearable so can go with tracker. Maybe with speaker for realism on voice/radio comms. Have looked at a couple of cheap options and they should do the job, but was curious as to what other people are using and how they have set up. No looking for anything fancy or high end, just want to be able to speak (combine with a head tracker) and possibly have radio/voice in ear. I have a 3.1ch setup for PC audio so would want to continue using that for game sounds, separating radio comms into ear with headset. But may not want to split all voice comms, not sure if that is possible.
  10. I also came to Winwing from Saitek (X-55). X-55 used to seem good but it was cheap plastic and I had issues with the cabling in the throttle and some issues with the stick. Some of the buttons on the throttle would not work if it was at or near 100% position. This was not ideal, got away with it in Elite Dangerous as it was a function that didnt matter if full throttle or not but still. Read up on it and just about everyone had problems. So I found out about Winwing and read reviews, videos all indicated quality was superb, plus the wiring connection is a lot better on the throttle! Plus adjustable detents etc. Superb. Also some some negative comments on here about quality and customer service but took the plunge and all going great.
  11. Not sure if I follow you, but you can map these in key bindings like any of the other keys? Or were you meaning what do people use them for in specific aircraft? I have them mapped for some extra buttons eg RWR filter on SU-25T but not yet on F-14B. I don't have a head tracker yet but have the additional module on the stick with two extra hats, that provide POV and two axis movement. I guess if I were to go with tracker those buttons could be mapped for re-centre as this is similar to what the push button is now. When you use a head tracker I assume you cannot also have POV? Can you have movement axis to, say adjust base position - eg if you move your seat or monitor etc? @too-cool Btw I also have to say thanks, I did not realise it until now but I got your joystick layouts on a google search and use them to assist with visualising keymaps on each aircraft.
  12. Yeah, saw your other post. I was appending to it Maybe a bit lazy with the quotations....
  13. I'm meaning more you can't feel movement like you can in a real aircraft. We can only rely on visual cues to give us information about bank, vertical speed and so forth.
  14. Thanks, yeah I should of mentioned the new drive will be a large NVMe SSD. I already have a smaller one for system and the other drive that is being done away with is also an HDD (WD raptor if you remember them!). I'm moving away from mechanical drives, especially for high performance but still good for large batch storage. DCS itself doesn't really care though?
