Additional Failure Request: Tail Rotor Drive Shaft
b00ce replied to Flamin_Squirrel's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Unsurprising, the gearboxes are VERY tolerant (The gearboxes on the UH60 can run for 30 minutes without any oil) and the chip detectors don't require much to trip. In essence its a check engine light for your gearbox. -
Additional Failure Request: Tail Rotor Drive Shaft
b00ce replied to Flamin_Squirrel's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Correct, chip detectors are pretty simple. For a simulation, they're even less complex. :smilewink: -
The only problem is that its hard to perceive vibrations with just the eye alone. Personally, I like where it is now, its immersive as hell.

The aircraft shakes when transitioning into and out of ETL and it starts again while approaching maximum speed. It is a universal trait of rotary wing, just like the helicopter rocking back and forth on startup.

You don't need to be constantly adjusting the collective to fly. ;)
-
Like riding a bicycle, gentle smooth movements, you start jerking on things and you end up ass over tea kettle. And like a bicycle, you have to get a feel for it.

I tried doing this last night, I didn't notice anything weird.

My first two tries at autorotation. Went well. :)

That's a fair point about the engine RPM, but I don't know if it would be enough for the T/R to rip the tail boom off. Either way though, if the Jesus nut fails you're having a bad day.
-
Doubtful. The effect on torque that losing your M/R has is equal to going into auto-rotation. No power, no torque. If anything there would be slightly more torque if your rotor flies off than an auto, because the shaft is still spinning.

Should we keep the autopilot and weapons hint display?
b00ce replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: UH-1H
Not only that, but it allows you to hop in the door gun and mess stuff up!:gun_rifle: -
More shenanigans in the huey. This is too fun. :pilotfly:

It ain't pretty, but I finally got my Joystick and pedals. Still trying to get used to the stick's tension and having pedals at all. Its fun though, better than what I had to deal with before, that's for sure. aCq0TSUX6Fs

You get an LWR warning when you're being ranged by T80s for their cannons. You should receive an LWR warning when the At-11 is fired.

Sounds almost identical to the Blackhawk. :p

One thing you learn quickly about fixing helicopters is that NOTHING ever goes smoothly. There's always something wrong in the most awkward and difficult to get at spot. The manufacture may boast about how easy it is to fix. No. Never believe them. Ever. You may be able to take it apart and reassemble it with 5 tools, but there is always a safety somewhere you can only reach with the tips of your fingers or the angle is 1 degree too awkward for a tool to work.

I should be getting my HOTAS and peddles early next month, right around my birthday. In the mean time, I have to... improvise... :pilotfly: hhWP8mqnhLQ No peddle control, just crude arrow key inputs. Ive gotten a LOT better, and have managed to land (Without flipping over), but I forgot to save the track. Its a lot of fun.

What would be awesome is ED making a UH-60 module, allowing for players to rescue downed pilots when they aren't inserting troops into battle. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. :joystick:

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
b00ce replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Awwe... I got all excited to see Wags post here... -
Pretty much all of this. Upon review of my track, I found that I was rolling to the right, which is why my blades crossed. Additionally, I once they broke off, rotor, and subsequently engine, RPM went through the roof causing the EEG to kick in and kill the engines to avoid a catastrophic failure.:megalol: (As evidenced by the rotor RPM being pegged at 100%, likely more, with full collective and no engine power.)
-
It at least needs a rewind feature. I can't count how many times I've passed where I wanted to be.
-
I was just flying around, admittedly to get screen shots of the max IAS caret at different altitudes because I hadn't read the thread all the way through. Just after my last screenshot, seen here, (at ~3460 ASL, nose down no more than 5 degrees with little to no roll) my blades collided and my engines shut off without warning. I foolishly tried to see if I could keep control and land it.:joystick: LOLNO. Anyway, I attached my track. Ignore the sloppy start-up. High_Altitude_MaxIAS_Test.trk

Just wait for ArmA 3, its going to have the Take on Helicopters flight model. Anyways, more to the point. You are aware that the Blackhawk is capable of having heavy weapons, right? It can carry everything an Apache can and more. Armament: M230 Chain-gun 19 rd Hydra pods, 2 can be mounted on a rack AGM-114 Volcano mine dispenser and door guns Alternatively, there's the S-70 Battlehawk But Glass cockpits are for noobs. :joystick: So not only can you fly transport, you can blow stuff up. :D

I would love nothing more than to be able to fly my beloved UH-60 into battle, and possibly be able to shoot some Hydras and/or dual 30mm chain-guns at some baddies. That would make me so happy.
