I checked the settings and main "Immortal" setting is OFF. Mission option "Random system failures" 'ENFORCE' value is OFF while the 'VALUE' is dimmed ON. Unless I misinterpret these values they mean that the "Immortal" settings should not prevent my pre-programmed failure and neither would the mission setting. Is that correct?

Thanks guys! I was asking about weight calculation in general, not for a specific mission. I just assume there are several situations, such as prior to landing and before taking onboard fuel from a KC-130. That's why I assumed there would be some CDU/MFD page that would help out with this calculation. But if I understand you correctly this is something the pilot would have to calculate in.air by him-/herself. If so, are there some sort of charts the pilot use for this?

Thanks guys, I’ll check those settings.

Not sure this is related to the plane or the DCS Mission Editor in general so I start here. Please divert me to a different forum if I'm wrong. As I understand the Failures panel in the ME I tick a failure I want to practice (in this example the L ENGINE), set the minimum time before it happens (e.g. 4 minutes) and a time frame for how long after this the failure will happen (e.g. 1 minute - I wanted to practice engine failure while climbing out). I then set a probability (e.g. 100%). With this I'd imagine I'm guaranteed a L ENGINE failure sometime between 4 and 5 minutes. I have tried this several times now with no failure whatsoever. Have I misunderstood how failures work?

A weird bug appeared after I upgraded DCS World to .2.5.3.212350: The flight instructor disappeared in the practice missions! I had flown for a few minutes in BFT06 practice mission when I realised I was alone. For testing purposes I rebooted the 'puter and also tested previous missions, where it used to work. Rebooting didn't help and no practice missions works anymore (I've tested three other, apart from #6). The FE works fine in the check rides (campaign) but not in the practice missions. Is there some setting somewhere I'm not aware of?

Ok, so manual. Are there any charts anywhere that looks like the ones r/w pilot (I assume) must be using for this? Or is there some other procedure IRL, such as getting support via radio/AWACS?

BFT 02 - tailwind landing?
moggel replied to moggel's topic in A-10C Basic Flight Training Qualification DLC
Yes, when I wrote the OP I hadn't gotten a reply for my "inbound" call so I simply headed to RWY 31; the one I took off from. In an emergency situation like this: Should I always go for the nearest landing, even if it means a tailwind approach and landing? -
I need help understanding BTF 03 as well. What's important seems to be to not just follow the verbal instructions but to also fly the flight plan (aim for the waypoints). But at final I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. The verbal instruction orders me to maintain pattern altitude (2500ft) and a speed between 200 and 250kts. That makes little sense as I'm supposed to land (I've already done one go-around) but if I do follow those instructions I get an "ABORT". If I don't follow the instructions and instead enter a glide slope for landing I get yelled at for not maintaining pattern altitude. Can someone please explain how this mission works?

Gotta say it's an awsome suite of missions so far - lovin' it! However, in mission 02, ATC clears me for T/O from RWY 31, which makes sense considering the wind. But in air, after shutting down my left engine and got the bird set up for landing, the instructor starts informing me how the PAPI lights work. That's fine but RWY 31 have no PAPI's! So, am I expected to perform a tailwind straight-in landing in this situation? Apparently I can pass the PO doing that but to me it makes no sense. Is this how I should prioritize in this situation?
-
I just started the Maple flags BFT campaign and in the second mission I need to land the bird on one engine. My instructions are to attain a speed of 150kts + 1kt per 1000 lbs over 30000lbs. My question is: How do I know my current weight? Do I need to calculate that manually, from charts, or can I get the info from the onboard systems?

Thanks but, if recognition was the problem, would I see the DCS output anyway ("PLAYER: Batumi, Enfield 1-1, request taxi to runway")? That, to me, indicates VAICOM PRO did pick up the command and sent it to DCS. Or am I assuming wrong here? Anyway, it works after upgrading to VAICOM PRO 2.5.5 so I guess it was an issue it the 2.5.4 version?
-
No reply back from DCS [EDIT] Never mind. I updated to 2.5.5 and now it works as expected. I can't get VAICOM PRO to work. What happens is I ... 1. Set up a mission out of Batumi (Caucasus) with A10C, hot from parkling, and start it 2. Dial the correct frequency (131.0Mhz) for VHF1 3. (Using TM Hotas Warthoh) hold TX1 and say: "batumi" ... 4. I hear a 'beep' and continue: "request taci to runway" 5. DCS confirms with output: "PLAYER: Batumi, Enfield 1-1, request taxi to runway" But then there is no reply from the tower. I'm running VPRO in debug mode. I have confirmed the .lua files are correctly installed. Here's the VA output from my voice command: At the bottom it seems VA/VAICOM PRO recognizes "batumi" as the recipient but then, at the top, it says "unspecified recipient called: using default unit for this category". Also, possibly related: I have "Easy Communication" set to OFF in the game options but VAICOM PRO PTT page looks like this:

How to crowd-up the Stennis? Love our new bird! Been teaching myself how to get off and back on the Stennis and its a very boring boat so I thoght I'd try and add some static mates to it. But how? What I did was adding a bunch of static F/A-18's and a chopper and then set their "LINK UNIT" to the carrier. But nothing shows up when I start the mission. Also, are there any plans to make the Stennis a bit more like the full experience with yellow-, green- (etc) shirts going about their business and doing real procedures? Cheers!

No, I had mixed it up and put it in the game's ../Mods/tech folder. Thanks!
-
I followed the instructions and installed into the 2.5 Open Beta/mods/tech folder but when I load any of the missions I get this message in the ME: "Need modules for load mission: 476 vFG Range Targets by Noodle & Stuka". Can I have missed some step somewhere?

I see. Do you know if these things are still planned or have they been canned? Thanks for the links!

The Nevada map is supposed to house a bunch of simulated air defenses. Are these in the map now? If so, where, and how do you use them?

After the upgrade to 2.5 I now get taxi clearance most of the time but take-off clearance from RWY 03 i still only given when I start taxiing onto the runway. Usually I first get an "unable to clear for takeoff" and two seconds later I get clearance. Seems to be a bug relating to Nellies and, perhaps, triggers based on my location. Another thing, which I assume is generic in DCS, is that ATC doesn't specify which runway (right/left) they are referring to when there's two parallell runways.

Ouch! Well, increasing the curves to 30 made a heck of a difference. Suddenly I can stay in "contact" for a minute, compared to a few seconds before. Thanks alot!
-
Curves: yes. But not deadzones. I'll give it a try. But do you think investing in a Thrustmaster Warthog would make me suck less or should I simply stop blaming the hardware and keep practising?
-
I have tried this 15+ times but I just can't do it. My op. is to sneek up very slowly from behind and then just fly at a matching speed while trimming the bird, before I call "ready pre-contact". When I get close I make sure to not try and chase the boom, but to fly in relation to the KC-135. I have watched a bunch of great tutorials and I do feel I am using all the tricks in the book but, for the life of me, I just cannot get the A10C stable enough to make contact for more than a few seconds. Would it help replacing my ageing X52 with something more modern or do I simply suck? :joystick:

Thanks but, like I mentioned, I am requesting Taxi and Take-off clearance in the exact same way (frequency, transmit switch) that I am (successfully) requesting startup clearance. Is there more to think about than the frequency and transmit switch?
-
Getting p to speed with the A-10C and I have two questions: 1. I often don't get a response from ATC when I ask for Taxi and Take-off clearence. I am running advanced COMMs but seeing that I can usually get a start-up clearance I don't understand if I am doing something wrong or if this is a well-known issue with the sim itself. I tend to be running 2.2 in Normandy or Nevada. 2. This one is for you guys who have more experience with VAICOM, which I just got. The proble here is that if I take off from one airbase and then want to land at a different one it seems VAICOM gets in my way. What happens is that I change frequency to the destination airfield but when I press the transmit button to declare INBOUND the frequency gets reset to the original airfield. It this due to some setting I haven't found? Cheers!

Training with the P-51D here and I very often find that my engine is failing. What happens is I hear the engine starts stuttering and a few moments later my throttle becomes useless and I am on the glide. When this happens the fuel pressure is always zero. What I have checked: 1. Booster pump is ON 2. There is fuel left in the active tank Is there something else I need to think about or could I be managing my engine wrong somehow?
-
Haha. Ok, now I feel like an ass! Thanks! :)
