The 3DMark score on the new 6800 has it almost doubling the score on my O.C. 9600 Pro. Have not tested any FPS improvements in Lockon.

I talked to an A-10 pilot at an airshow and they usually do not use the cursor to lockup a target. Not enough time to do that in most cases, so they do a pop-up attack once the target is identified. The A-10's monitor can do higher resolution, so id is not a problem. If I recall the setting for this type of targeting is called "Bullzeye". Also, when I used to fly Falcon SP4, our online squadron had an exclusive patch that would allow better resolution and closer targeting than was programmed in the original sim. With Falcon AF, there is no such patch as of now. The patch was going to be used when Falcon 4.0 Gold was in development, but that's a long story.

Don't tell me that! Well the money saved by not going next-gen is o.k. with me. It will be better than the 9600 Pro I have now. But we'll see for sure. Must remember to test my current setup against my new 6800 card.

Proof that a fighter is only as good as the pilot.
phantom_fly85 replied to Cobra360's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I mean the F-22 is new and the pilots to fly it were selected about a year ago. The Super Hornet has flown longer, so the pilot for that airframe had more experience with their jet's qualities. -

Phantoms will never die! -
ATI's drivers were KING a few years ago for sure and NVIDIA made false claims and even disabled AA & AF without the user knowing it was happening. I recall some online review sites claiming that NVIDIA was at the end of it's development. But I think it has changed with the 6000 series cards. I was interested in the 6600 GT, but the vanilla 6800 will beat it in most cases. Both are close in cost right now since AGP is on it's way out.

I have a 9600 Pro with 5.13 drivers and overclocked with Rage3d. Seems to help smooth out the FPS. I am curious about Shader 3.0, so I ordered last week an Apollo 6800 card. I'll let you know what I find. Never had a Nvida card, so I am looking forward to see if I gain anything.

Also, consider how much more airframe time the hornet pilot had in his/her machine verses the F-22 pilot. Imagine if the Hornet pilot was a woman! The jeers would never end! -
Stand down with Honor, Tomcats.

The Tomcat's sole purpose was to be the "Defender of the Fleet". Sure the Phoenix has a huge long cability, but it's not manueverable like the 120 slammer. One on One the Tomcat can't compete anymore and the USN needed the multirole fighter. The Tomcat is beautiful, cool, and fast. Those back sweep wings are bad ass! She'll be missed but not forgotten. Maybe LOCKON can make a single seat version of the F-14 for us to fly. Definitely is not well represented in the Sim market. -

Hawg11, thanks for the link and the above photos of the F-14 in storage. Very sad to see some of these planes going away and the lives they touched. -

In case of a world war current air frames would be used and Boeing would ramp up production on those air frames. I can't see how it would be possible to go backward due to pilot's training and familiarity with a certain air frame and avionics. -
Thanks Weta43 for the link. I guess my search will continue to include the 6800, 6800 GS or stay with ATI for a new and improved card. I'm stuck with AGP for now and want the best upgrade for the money.

Anybody have a 6600 GT video card? How do you like it? I have an ATI 9600 Pro card and it is good. Not great, but does the job a medium to high settings. Also, I've overclocked the memory and gpu, so it's better than stock. I would like to get a 6600 GT, because many reviews have it better than the 9800 Pro. The 6600 GT is half the price now, so I am wanting one even more. Any advice would be helpful.

Maybe Ebay or a Half Price book store or similar software reseller of used titles. I don't know if it's available as a jewel case only title? Worth a look at any retail store, but you probably won't find a boxed version anywhere. You could post on Frugals on the Janes F/A 18 forum and ask some of them about getting an extra copy.

Hey Blaze, I hope this helps. It seems as though you want to fly a F/A 18 in a sim. I too wish this would come true due to the graphic enhancements shown from the LOMAC series. When Falcon SP4 was alive and well I loved to fly the Hornet with Aeyes pit. I used to beta test for the Falcon series and I know the Hornet's FM was as best as it could get for a F16 sim. The slow flight characteristic were great which gave my style an advantage when fighting against boom and zoomers. The current Falcon AF is only F-16 with no "fly any plane". I hated the Graphsim version of Iraqi Freedom for the Hornet. It was just bad, so don't waste your money on it. Janes is the best for Carrier OPs. FM is awesome. Real Hornet pilots have said that it is spot on. My only complaint is the cockpit. Textures, buttons, dials are just not like an Aeyes pit. If it were and the graphics were like LOMAC then Janes would be in my opinion the best flight sim ever.

Does anyone Have Falcon 4 allied force?
phantom_fly85 replied to rekoal's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thank you for answering this question for SuperKungFu. I fly in a Falcon squadron and that is one of the items that must be passed during flight training. It's easy though once you know what switches must be used and how to cycle the joystick. If you own Falcon AF, it would benefit you to join a squadron. However, there are not many that fly both LOMAC and Falcon. -
And want some Redneck lovin?

Here's the link to Vipers in the Storm website: http://www.vipersinthestorm.com/html/main_page.html There are HUD tapes there, will need Real Player to view them.

Who should America invade next?
phantom_fly85 replied to VVanks's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I would not consider current policy making as the American way. Just look at the President's poll rating. It's the lowest ever and possible the lowest in American history. He has had the most "closed door" policy of any president. I personally did not vote for him. Spotted trouble when he was governor of Texas. -

As an American I do envy some things European. And that is you have more vacation and holidays than we do. I could either become a teacher here in the U.S.A. or move to Europe to get more days off. Something to consider for myself. -

My bad! Spelling of Lichtenstein that is. However, the uproar is of Americans and not Europeans as portrayed in the video I saw. I don't think there were any Euros in it. -
