I modded my Cougar but with the U2NXT hal sensor mod. A massive improvement on the original hotas without a doubt. I still prefer the feel the cougar stick has now over the hog. The warthogs center is just to rigid for my liking. Just my opinion. I'm only flying A10 now so I use the hog for its plug and play ability. Cougar gathering dust. The Falcon guys were big fans of these FSSB type mods.

Wake me up when someone mods the slider that's used for zoom on the throttle, so that its smooth, if they havent already. ;)

Activations & Hardware Upgrades

Found it Phantom This helped me when the activation thing went tits up. See last post by mod. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98679&highlight=registry If you deactivate you should not have issue though. -
Activations & Hardware Upgrades
Vlerkies replied to Phantom453's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi I would certainly recommend deactivating all your modules first, then do your hardware upgrade mate. I did my cpu/mobo/ram thing just recently, never deactivated and the sim gave me invalid key messages, refused to let me deactivate and reactivate through the normal procedures. Was basically stuck. After doing some searching on this forum there was a small registry edit file posted by one of the mods that cleared out all the DCS lines in the registry, and allowed me to activate again. Cost me activations though. I will have a look for it. Its only necessary if I reckon if you dont deactivate first. -
To add to Joey45's post ATI dual gpu's like the 6990 dont work so well, I have one and its forced to run on 1 card only, so go for the best single gpu card you can afford.

GTX 680 vs HD 6990 benchmarks and comparison!
Vlerkies replied to Darkphox's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yeah thanks chaps, I did the inevitable and ordered a EVGA GTX680 4Gb FTW card. I have done quite a bit of testing this side to see if I could eek out a bit more performance out of the 6990, so it will be interesting to do a direct comparison in some fashion when the new gpu goes in. I'll report back with some results in about 2 weeks when I get it and the silly season is over. Thanks for the advice. -

Don't shoot me please, but a last question. I currently have a PCIe 2 board. With this sim in particular, would a PCIe 3 mobo provide better performance with the 680 or is there nothing in it between 2 and 3? 3770K cpu, Intel chipset 1155 -
GTX 680 vs HD 6990 benchmarks and comparison!

yeah yeah, I get it, I'm just rather miffed about it that is all considering I paid top dollar for a capable machine to run this sim, am not exactly running mutli monitors, and other much more run of the mill less expensive cards work better. :badmood: The card should rock for the sim but doesnt, fact of life, deal with it and adapt. I have already made my mind up to ditch it and am placing an order for a GTX680 4gb card today. I'll offload the 6990 to some BF3 playing noob tubing grunt :gun_rifle: From my many years of virtual aviation, this is Flightsimming 101 lesson 1, nothing works the first time round, ever  -

Yeah, embarrassed to say I'm only running one screen, at 1920 or something to the effect and 20fps when you are near anything just doesn't cut the mustard. In clear blue skies it goes up above 30. Have civ traffic and heat blur et al turned off even. -

I have been running a i7 2600 (non K) cpu for some time stock, recently upgraded to the 3770K have run it stock and OC'ed makes no diff, but thanks. -

Darkphox thanks. I reckon the 680 is the way to go for DCS, my machine is not limited in any area and my mates with lower spec'ed machines and 680 cards are getting smoother gameplay than I am with a 6990. Im running i7 3770K (oc about 4200mhz) 2x8Gb Corsair Dominator platinum ram, SSD, and the 6990 slowcoach :puke: Suitably unimpressed with the results. -
My first (well maybe 3rd :music_whistling: ) attempt at trying to make a little move. No real effects just footage from the sim, playing cat and mouse with a Sam site. Struggled to get footage, but read GlowingAmraam's tutorial and it helped a lot.

noob alert!! what the embed code for this forum for say youtube and vimeo? Can't seem to get it to work.

The highlighted bit has me a little confused? I have zoom on the slider of the Warthog throttle, next to apu switch (essentially the throttle friction control slider) the Embolded bit in your text is interesting, how/where?

I also have no JTAC in the radio list/s in 'create fast missions'.

Sorry for resurrecting this older thread, but is anyone else here running a HD6990? I am and its not giving me much more than 25-30, if it really is a problem I will ditch it and get something else. -
Sorry to harp on this but, Using the same version of the sim, V1.1.1.1 Has anyone ever done a fresh instal and succesfully managed to save their control settings and import them into the new instal? I have a fresh instal, still have the other instal on a spare drive, and nothing I do seems to use the old configs. I have overwriting the Saved Games folder on the fresh instal with the old one - in options and in game the configs remain default I have doen this and overwriting the whole instal folder in the program files in its entirety = same result. How is it possible? A simple check is the trim setting which has a modifer by default, this is removed in the original instal along with a myriad of other changed settings. Where is the sim picking up the key configs, there must be another directory somewhere but i cant find it.
-
Understand 1.1.1.1 to 1.2.0 however, I am trying to copy the old 1.1.1.1 settings/curves/etc into a fresh 1.1.1.1 instal, either im doing something dumb or its not possible. thx
-
Its a win 7 64bit instal so the default folders for that, sorry not at home now but trust me it mirrors the original instal perfectly both in the program files folder, and the c/user/saved games/dcs (or something) folder as well I also suspect the axis settings are not transeferable to be honest. I will just start from scratch, irritating though as it took ages to get to that point.

I'm back :( Ok so I did a fresh instal of Win7 and DCS 1.1.1.1 on the new ssd drive. I still have my old C:drive untouched, just unplugged. I have tried with little success to copy across my in game hotas setup to the new instal. I dont run target or anything like that. If I boot from the old C: drive the sim runs as expected and my profile/axis curves are all there. What I have tried is so far 1. Copy the saved games folder to the mirror ssd directory, nojoy 2. On the old drive, gone into options and sim controls, clicked there and saved (working) profile to default directory. Copied that saved profile across and loaded it on the new ssd DCS instal in control options. For some reason though my hotas joystick axis's disappear. 3. Copied the whole old DCS instal folder in my programs overwritting the new instal files to the new drive, still nadda. Crazy, what am I doing wrong, or is it possible to retain the fine tuned axis settings and general control setup.

Thx 0xBlb You understood correctly, was wondering if the settings file was universal between 1.1.1.1 and the 1.2.0 versions, which you clearly say it isn't. Thx So I just copy my Saved games DCS folder for the 1.1.1.1 instal. Thanks for the link about de activation, that is most useful.

Hi I was trying to ghost my current C: drive to a new SSD, but inevitably things went a little pear shaped. I will try and fix it but patience is running thin hehe. My 1.1.1.1 instal and C: drive still work but if I cant get the other one to ghost properly today I will just reinstall windoze fresh on the SSD and start from scratch. I want to back up my settings for A-10 so that when I instal it again on the SSD I can just replace the new files with the old config/settings that I used. Can you folks tell me which files i must backup please? Also, can I use the same config file with the settings for the 1.2.0 DCS World and DCS A10 instal, which I will also instal on the new SSD? Thanks
