Remember to press W (wheel brake) when taking off otherwise any landing will result in a disaster :) In any case the nasty bunny hop motion seems to be a pronounced mast bumping effect, at least thats what it feels like to me. Its definitely some kind of mechanical damage. You gotta be more careful with this bird when touching down it has much more mass than the Huey. One thing I definitely noticed, the ground cushion effect is much more pronounced in the Mi8 and you have to be extra careful when dropping the last few meters to the ground.

Waiting for first discount on DCS: Mi-8MTV2
VanjaB replied to captainteemo's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
Well I bit the bullet and got it on sale yesterday. Yes Yesterday at about 10pm my time :). The chopper is A LOT more stable than the Huey (with P/R autopilot on) and you gotta love how much power it has, landings from hover are easy but I still cant perform a rolling approach worth a damn... -

Im kind of tempted to buy the Black Shark 2. I never did upgrade from BS1, never played much of BS1 anyway, for the same reason why I never bothered to master the A10, the avionics involved are just very hard to learn and the training missions were very canned. How is BS2 compared to the original? Are the training missions better, Im scared the steep learning curve will scare me off. For reference Im loving the Huey module, its campaign, the missions and its simplicity of use. -

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. -
You can do that? I mean use driving pedals for rudder inputs? How do you do that?

Its always like this. BST is not to blame. Every single game development company does this, do you know why GTA V earned more than 800 Million dollars in the first 24h after release? Because a large number of those purchases were pre-orderes. People are paying a premium to be the first in line. The ED sales bring in people into the fold who otherwise wouldnt have the money to purchase these products. For some people 50 $ is a lot of money, especially people who are from the poorer parts of Eastern Europe or Asia. I for one dont earn nearly enough money to justify purchasing every single DCS product. I paid full price for the Huey and Im not sorry at all about that. But there is no way in hell I would pay the same for the Mi-8. Its still too early in Beta and there is still a lot of flying and learning to do with the Huey, but at a 60% price discount? -

Wow, this is indeed very strange (and welcome) news. I havent purchased the Mi-8 yet out of principle really, since I dont really believe I should be paying full price for 2 beta products (I already paid full price for the Huey) but this is definitely an incentive to do so... -
Airflow effects on control surafces...
VanjaB replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Do you have a force feedback joystick? Maybe someone with one can comment, I dont so I dont know. As far as I know the force feedback joystics respond to trim. (At least in the Heli sims) -
Ahh, ok thanks for clearing that up. But what about the rudder control and behaviour. Has that been tuned as well? It seems that the chopper needs a lot less rudder at takeoff hover and high speed. At 130-140 knots level flight, neaerly max collective, in 1.2.5. you would need about half left rudder for forward flight. in 1.2.6 you hardly need any rudder at all...
-
Something very strange is going on with the Huey. I assume that everyone has noticed that the chopper seems to be behaving very differently in 1.2.6. compared to the previous patch. Can someone explain what was changed, because Im having problems controling the damn thing after 1.2.6 landed. First thing I noticed is that the power requirements to lift the bird off the ground have increased a lot, and by a lot at least 30-40%. This is most easily tested by enabling the control scheme cheat by pressing ALT + ENTER and bringing the bird into the air in the freeflight quick mission. What is also noticable is that the craft requires a lot less rudder input for stable flight, which combined with the increased power requierments smells very fishy to me. Can anyone comment on this?
-
This is very strange indeed, from memory alone the difference in power requirements to simply lift the heli off the ground is huge. At least 30-40% more power is needed in 1.2.6. Either 1.2.5 had it very wrong or this new patch is if FUBAREd. Try flying the MEDIVAC mission near the start of the campaign, I think its the third of foruth mission. A lot more power is required to reach those unstable flying speeds of 140 knots, what is even stranger is that for some reason Im not using as much left rudder as I used to, something is very wrong here...

Isnt that....a form of censorship?

I have to say that the Huey behaves a whole lot differently in 1.2.6, I cant put my finger on it but something feels off.

What I want to know is, when is the Su-33 module coming? EDGE seems to be a pipe dream right now, and these (confirmed NOT DCS) videos arent helping. Can anyone say vapourware???

Overclocking the i5 3570K, which cooler?
VanjaB replied to VanjaB's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Will check it out, thanks! -
Hi guys, I want to do some overclocking to experiment with regards to performance in DCS and could use some advice. I have the stock cooler on my CPU and Im looking for a decent and not too loud air-cooled alternative. Any advice?

Thats not the point I was trying to make. I would like to know if anyone can reproduce the bug, so that it can be investigated and removed.

I have now experienced two crashes to desktop in a row after watching, and taking over a .trk replay on campaign mission 3. Im not sure if its related to this particural mission, or if its just from watching the .trk I cant even begin to describe the feeling after flying for an hour landing succesfuly only to have the program crash to desktop after pressing quit, and not saving my progress....
-
Working as intended. Its aerodynamics, pure and simple. At a certain airspeed the helicpter starts to 'fall off' the cushion of air that is called the ground effect, this is where the turbulance and shaking start. At another point shortly therafter the aircraft's rotor starts to act sort of as a fixed wing, in addition to the lift of the blades themselves the forward motion of the aircraft induces extra lift, which is why you see the jump. You have to factor in other stuff into the equation, like windspeed and direction and weight/load of the helicopter itself.

I dont feel mistreated. I just wont buy the product because I feel its too much of a hassle. Its their loss as well as mine, a simple thing such as a key check would eliminate all these problems and it would result in more happy customers, which results in more money for ED. Very simple.

By my key? You know, the one that they already have on file on their servers? :megalol:

John Carmack joins Oculus VR!!!
VanjaB replied to VanjaB's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
This guy? Don't tell me youve never heard of John Carmack before. The geek god of coding. People have been trying to steal him from iD software for ages, even if he never even writes one line of code for Oculus VR the marketing from having him on board will make companies take notice of this new tech. The developer kit version that you can order now is about 350$ I think. The consumer mass produced version would probably be even cheaper. -
I meant because of the hassle of having to install TWO versions of Black Shark to be able to play.
-
Isnt this kind of a rather crappy money grab by the developers???
