  1. Tone, just out of curiousity what graphics settings do you fly with now?
  2. I never got into the habbit of trimming frequently in the Huey, but with the Mi-8 I found that its not only essential but it allows for buttery smooth rides and has made me a better pilot. Recently I got back into the Huey (after spending a lot of hours in the Mi-8) and found that I have a significant problem when I tried to trim it. Basically in the Mi-8 I would push the trim button, hold it down get my control inputs in the position I want them and then release the trim button. Rinse and repeat, works great. Back in the Huey though, I ran into a HUGE problem with this method. For some reason after I press and hold the trim button there is a siginifcant delay of at least a second before my inputs are accepted and corrected, with catastrophic results. (Jerky jumpy movements resulting in a loss of control) Am I doing something wrong or is this is a bug??
  3. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Was wondering about that because this is how its done on RC helicoptes as well, mechanically I mean. Sounds like an essential upgrade that would make piloting and especially landing much easier.
  4. Ahh I see, so the tail rotor is configured for a higher collective setting. Makes sense. A followup question, although its not related to the Mi-8. Do modern helicopters (single rotor configuration) have some kind of electronic aid that adjusts the tail settings on the fly? For example a pilot pulls up (or down) on the collective, and the flight computer adjusts the rudder input automatically. Is this done in helicopters at all or is that a big no no?
  5. Why does the Helicopter spin clockwise when collective is fully down?? Or rather why do I need to apply left rudder to keep the helicopter from spinning. (Sometimes not even holding the wheelbrake is enough) I understand that when you increase the collective you need to fight the torque forces but these forces try to push the helicopter anticlockwise so and so you need to apply right rudder.
  6. There is one fairly big reason. DCS: World is available right now so its a good place to start practicing. AFAIK the Dora will also first make an appearance in DCS: World.
  7. I have a related question, if I own the Mustang or the Dora in DCS: World, will I be able to fly them with DCS: WW2 or would I have to purchase them seperately?
  8. What about the second point? Does it refer to AI helicopters, or the AI gunner in our helicopter?
  9. Thanks for all the suggestions, will try them out when I get home from work today.
  10. Thanks for the answer Kuky
  11. Like the title says, I have a 64GB Intel SSD and on it I have precisely two things installed. Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Edition and DCS: World (A10C, Huey, P51, Mi-8). My problem is this, I have exactly 5.5 GBs of free space left!! How do I clear up some of it? Are there any tools that one can use to get rid of unecessary Windows files and directories?
  12. Ahh thanks for this! Was wondering whether Im supposed to be flying over all of those mountains at max throttle only to land at an empty airfield an hour later. Very, very bad mission design I have to say they should correct this for the final version!
  13. I have a question about the updates, maybe someone can help me answer it. I have Win7 and DCS installed on the same disk, its an Intel 64GB SSD. Im very happy with its performance but the space is getting rather limited, especially because Windows eats so much of it. My question is this, do all of these patches increase the size of DCS directories? This particular update is 650MB for example, will this eat away 650 megs of space, or will it mostly replace other, 'older' files? Thanks in advance!
  14. This is also my main concern.
  15. MSI GTX 760 TF 4GB DDR5 version it is... Have to say Im a very happy puppy. The difference is very pronounced, I have to say at least as much as doubling in performance in most scenarios. Now what to do with all that extra VRAM.... ;)
  16. Ok, major stutters seem to gone after disabling the mirrors, so it appears the culprit has been found! Thanks for all of your help and suggestions. Also tested with my new nvidia card as well, and the stutters are back (although much less dramatic) when mirrors are enabled. Gotta say the graphics card upgrade was well worth it.
  17. So its coming by the end of this year? Could you please post a link to this quote, Ive been trying the search function with no success.
  18. You have to remap your view keys in Options, just remember to select the UH-1H and the mode which you wish to calibrate. (Simulation or Game) Once you are in there, press Num05 and it should snap to the command. All the snap view commands should be close to each other on the list so it should be a breeze to remap everything. I usually only use the snap-to-center key, and the zoom in, zoom normal keys and those are bound to my HOTAS buttons since I use the mini stick to look around. (No TrackIR FTW!)
  19. Sorry but EDGE is a pipedream. How long have been waiting for it? How much longer till it gets here? Do we have to wait for the DCS:WWII to get edge? So many questions and very few answers, just look at that Nevada map wait. (Which is still ongoing)
  20. I understand that the Mi-8 has a more complex 3d model and that it obviously causes a drop in performance when compared to other modules, but this is not what Im talking about. What Im talking about are strange and seemingly random drops (at least by 15-20 FPS) during normal smooth flight where there is very little action going on on screen and where I do not usually even touch my inputs. Yes I have them enabled. Will try to disable them to see if they are causing the drops.
  21. Im not talking about that. Im talking about FPS drops that happen during flight, when seemingly nothing is going on. Turning of my AV did nothing either. New GFX card is coming tomorrow, going to do a bit of testing then.
  22. I have AVG antivirus installed, but its not causing problems anywhere else. I also disable Steam before starting up the DCS (just in case). There is nothing else running in the background.
  23. Yeah I think this is exactly what the devs had in mind
  24. Ok this might be a bit of a rant, and I do realise that ED might be more to blame than Belsimtek but Im having serious issues with the frame rates after 1.2.6. and more to the point, since Ive been spending so much time with the Mi-8 this is where Ive noticed them. While I respect the fidelity of the FM and everything else that is included, the visuals of DCS are really sub par to what is available in FSX and other flight sims for example and yet the game performs HORRIBLY. Even worse the performance seems to take a hit with every subsequent patch. Ok my problem is this, while flying in random free flight missions, Im getting seemingly random (seemingy random, but Im thinking that its connected to particle and light effetcs) FPS drops that last up to 30 seconds. The frame rate drops below 15 or even 10 FPS and the aircraft becomes uncontrollable. This is while there is NO OTHER TRAFFIC in view, and with my aircraft being the only one in the mission. My specs: Win7 64 bit, i5 3570K @ 4Ghz, 16 GB DDR3 low lat. mem, SaitekX52, ATI Radeon 6870. (Single monitor setup @1080p, no Track IR) I understand that this is a beta and a WIP but I recently gave up on flying the Mustang P51 (which is no longer in beta) for a similar performance reasons. The plane simply becomes unresponsive when firing its cannons. Now I dont have the most powerful rig out there, and my gfx card is somewhat out of date. I will be replacing my GFX card this week but is this really the solution to every problem with DCS? I dont think it should be, not for a game engine this old. I really dont think Im being unreasonable, all Im asking is to be able to fly this helicopter in conditions which should not be too taxing on my system. P.S. Im not replacing my GFX card for this reason alone, its simply the bottleneck in my system and Ive been meaning to do so for some time. However I suspect this problem will continue even after I replace my gfx card.
  25. I keep getting random FPS drops when flying in the Mi-8. Im not sure what they are connected to but they happen intermitently and during completely empty skies the FPS drops down to 10-15 FPS and stays like that for 20-30 seconds. They are easily reproducible and keep appearing when flying over the same part of the terrain when first noticed. Very, very strange (un)optimization error. The level of performance just keeps getting worse and worse in DCS. No hardware setup seems immune and its getting unacceptable that we are getting no feedback on ED on what is being done about this.
