  1. Bought it about a month ago, works like a charm although I still need a lot of practice with the landings. I dont crash anymore but I overshoot my intended landing spot a lot. Best. DCS. Module.
  2. http://www.oculusvr.com/blog/john-carmack-joins-oculus-as-cto/ Well now, hopefully this will this bring us one step closer to Oculus Rift support in DCS!
  3. I own the first one, can I just buy the upgrade to BS2 so that I can run it in DCS: World or do I have to make the full purchase??
  4. You say that it feels 'unnatural'. Unnatural compared to what? A real Huey? There are real life pilots who can attest to the accuracy of the sim, so unless you have flown the Huey yourself and can really attest to its behaviour when entering FTL I will trust the simulated dynamic flight model that DCS boasts over any subjective 'feel'.
  5. I use the mini stick instead of the POV hat switches for looking around. The only thing that worked for me was to download the latest Saitek software from their website. Download only the control software, there is no need to download the drivers. Once you install the software, keep it running in the background when you launch DCS. Hope this helps, good luck.
  6. Will anyone post a .trk of a coordinated turn so we can all see what we are talking about?? I for one cant do one without adding a little bit of collective so I would like to see someone do it so we can end this discussion once and for all. Thank you.
  7. I would recommend that you skip the 'game mode' if you want to truly get a feel for how this plane handles. Practice taking off, flying around and landing for in simulation mode until you get the hang of the plane. The campaign missions will also serve quite well in that regard. Use the quick mission to setup a simple random mission, it will only take you a couple of minutes and it will randomize the conditions so you will learn how the plane handles in different conditions as well. For the joystick setup obviously you will want to setup the different axis correctly, this is done in the options menu, and depending on the number of buttons available setup your gear up/down, flaps up/down, and some view options like zoom in/out, center view, hat switches and the like.
  8. So what you say here totally contradicts everything our instructor has told me in the above post by me so if you are and if you are that good come and join us at http://1stcavdiv.conceptbb.com/ Well, its rather simple physics basically and yes what he wrote is true. Its also easily reproducible in DCS. Any banking (by any aircraft, not just helicopter aircraft) will result in a loss of speed and/or altitude unless there is an increase of thrust. (Either by pulling on the collective or in the case of fixed wing aircraft by increasing throttle)
  9. This is true. Im not a RL helicopter pilot but I do know a little bit about physics. Torque is also usually refered to as momentum, or moment of force. Basically it is the tendency of an object in motion to retain its motion. Or when there is a constant force applied to an object that is tethered to an axis or fulcrum it is the tendency of that force to rotate this object about this axis. Because all forces are relative, an object will resist any force applied to it with an equal reactive force and because of aerodynamical effects (drag) a larger collective setting will result in a larger torque on the axis.
  10. Warthog_Farmer I notice you mentioned that you are running Windows 8. Why in the world would you want to run that horrible OS? If I was to hazzard a guess, that right there is your main problem.
  11. So will someone post a video or .trk of a correctly performed coordinated turn or what?
  12. Dont give up MadCat, you are the only one that is actually making sense here. :) Can you explain 'unloaded blades' to me? Im not really sure I understand the concept, what exactly is it and what are the conditions necessary for this to occur?
  13. Whatever man. Look at every single thread related to performance issues on this forum. Im not talking about overall performance but the frame dropping and stuttering issues in certain scenes and/or when firing certain weapons. 90% of the users who have issues are ATI users.
  14. Your ATI/AMD card is blame. You have a very decent system with a monster card, however for some reason the engine doesnt really like AMD cards. I too have usually great performance but in certain scenes and at certain times (when firing certain weapons) my framerate drops into the teens. (ATI 6870 here) Check the numerous threaeds where people have reported performance troubles with the best and greatest ATI cards, compared to just midrange Nvidia cards.
  15. Ive noticed a strange bug that might be related. Im not even sure its a bug, maybe someone can reproduce it. Ive noticed that if I arm the weapons using the keyboard shortcuts (from the pilot position) and then switch over to the copilot seat and try to fire the mini-guns, using the flexible sight and keyboard, they simply wont fire. Clicking the switches off and on, with the mouse on the console directly, solves that problem and the weapons start to work fine. Anyone else notice this?
  16. Which is also kind of pulling the wool over our eyes, because apparently the new renderer will be a free adition to the game (as it should) but to actually see the difference you need to buy the new map. Im hoping that EDGE incorporates aspects that are not just related to eyecandy and that there will be improvements under the hood so to speak, so that people who choose not to purchase the nevada map will benefit from improved performance, multicore support or whatever else EDGE might bring to the table...
  17. Quick question, I will post it here before opening another thread: How do I figure out wind/direction speed? Aside from the obvious fly around looking for smokestacks... I understand that its possible to get a heading/windspeed direction by using your comm. system to talk to towers at various airstrips. Does that cover wind in this simulation? (I.E. there is no local wind but the wind is constant in direction and speed on the entire map) This leads me to my second question, can weather change dynamically during a mission or is it scripted in advance? Thank you.
  18. Thank you Echo, when was this posted just for reference? *edited* N/M just found it, June 2013.
  19. Says who? Can someone link anything of note that the developers have posted? I really mean anything, I cant find anything using the search function. How do we even know EDGE is real?
  20. Tried downloading the Saitek software and it works in game now! Great for people (like myself) who dont use TrackIR.
  21. What is DCS: EDGE?? (Point me in the right direction please) As the title says, Id like to find out more about EDGE and what it is exactly in relation to the DCS: World simulation now and in the future. So far all Ive read is more or less heresay, Ive searched the english forums and found virtually nothing of note that has been confirmed by any devs that visit these borads. Can someone link any threads of note where developers discuss what EDGE will be bringing to the simulation, release ETA, etc?? Thank you.
  22. I really hope its WIP because currently thats the main reason my P-51 is sitting in the hangar gathering dust. Im having no such problems with the Huey.
  23. Thanks for clearing that up!
  24. This. Basically anytime your forward airspeed drops to zero and you are making large collective increases the danger increases ten-fold. Try landing on the oil-rig quick mission with your tail turned into the wind. Its nearly impossible NOT to enter VRS.
  25. Well not to sound disrespectful or anything but for most newbies, yes it is. According to a lot of people it should take most people about 10h flight time to get familiar with this simulation. Most of my logged time is just practicing landings, and Im still far from very secure. My reason for posting this is that people shouldnt get discouraged, all it takes is time.
