On some games that access the hard drive all the time, stuttering can indeed be a problem. Unless you are flying with 4 GB Ram, DCS is NOT one of those games. I have 16 GB of Memory and an SSD drive, performance is the same regardless of whether I use pagefile.sys or whether I delete it. (I currently have it deleted) Stuttering, or frame drops in DCS is caused by something else, most of the time the GPU is at fault although it could be anything that is the bottleneck in the system. I used to have an XFX 6870 card and I can tell you that this card did not perform well in DCS. By well I mean @1080p resolution. The game was certainly playable but for fine helicopter manouvers in the Huey or Hip-8 there was way too much lag. 15-20 FPS is not acceptable when trying to avoid VRS and come in for a smooth landing.

Sorry Maj Death, but minimum specs mean minimum performance. Judging from your specs your desktop is too outdated to run this game at 1080p. I recently upgraded to a 760GTX and Im happy with its performance, but the rest of my rig is no slouch either. I would suggest you upgrade your graphics card first and foremost and then take it from there. If the performance is not there at that point you will definitely need a complete overhaul, new MBO, CPU and most probably powersuply. Your RAM should be usable as its DDR3.

Matt has stated several times that they are pushing for end of the year release of Nevada and EDGE. I cant be bothered to link to the relevant threads but its not that hard to use the search function.

Duh. Please read my entire post, we have no idea how EDGE will perform. His CPU might indeed be the bottleneck in the new engine. All Im doing is advising caution and restraint for now.

Can anyone link to the thread where Wags posted this bit of news? Im anxious to fly the Eagle ASAP, so Im waiting for the AFM and the stand alone module (dont want to purchase FC3). Im all for a DCS level F15 module, but will this mean we wont be getting the FC3 level module seperately?

Your graphics card is fine. There is no reason to go for the 780GTX or an equivalent or better ATI card unless you are going for a multimonitor setup or something. My suggestion and advice. Wait for EDGE. Its coming by the end of the year, its a brand new rendering engine and will probably (hopefuly) wipe the slate clean with regards to performance. The truth is we have no idea how the game will perform with EDGE so wait before upgrading.

Best news ever. I was thinking of investing into the latest TrackIR but I will hold off for the consumer version of the Rift!

The way I understand it EDGE will definitely work with the Caucass map. The terrain and objects will remain the same (basically all of the art assets) while some of the engine features such as advanced lighting/shadow techniques (maybe even weather) will carry over with the use of the new engine. So while the map will have nowehere near the detail of Nevada its still going to look at least somewhat better than what we have now. Have I understood this correctly? Please correct me if Im wrong I dont want to spread rumours if thats all they are.

Just wanted to pipe in, thanks for this great mod. With SweetFX the game looks better than ever at low alts. Just a quick question, I havent installed the latest update to 1.2.6, will I need to reinstall the mod if I update?

The thing is, DCS was never meant to be a multiplayer focused simulator. At least thats not what I went into when I bought the Ka50 and A10C all those years ago. It was designed with fidelity in mind, not performance or balance or server stability or any of those things that multiplayer fans need/desire. With EDGE we might get some of that again (pure speculation though) but first and foremost what most DCS fans want is simulation fidelity.

You gotta fly this one by the seat of your pants, so yeah its a harrowing flight at full throttle, erm collective. Dont forget to trim her and you will be fine for the most part.

Really?? How the hell did he slip by the AWACS and their own radars? The last time an F15 took down bogeys was in Serbia I believe, I watched a documentary from the serbian point of view, the two surviving Mig-29 pilots both reported that they never even had the chance to close into any kind of weapons range before being taken out by missles that they never even saw coming...

From what Ive been able to discern "easy communication" seems borked, at least in the Huey campaign and in the few Mi-8 missions. At least I could not get it to work. I simply did it the 'hard' way and it worked.

Arent we going off topic here a bit?? Besides isnt this whole maneuvrability discussion a bit pointless when you can launch multiple high precision missles at multiple bogeys way beyond visual range....When was the last time one fighter actually engaged another in a dogfight? Vietnam?

Same here, I almost bit the bullet and bought FC3 but I dont want to keep Lockon installed (wonder if I can even find it somewhere) and the SFM would only spoil the planes for me. I want to see how these airframes perform in the real world (or as close to as possible). One other thing, is the 'open' beta coming at all? As far as I know the previous stand alone modules (A10A and Su25) never had one, but then again their AFM's were very close to the tried and true A10C and Su25T.

Actually I was talking about the fuel setup, carrying aproximately 70% less fuel does feel like cheating. Unless the Dora is also light on fuel?

Erm, isnt that cheating though? Ok putting some distance between us could help with the tactical situation, but am I right in assuming that the Dora also starts with a full tank of fuel??
