  1. I have not flown this mission yet but it sounds interesting so will try tonight! zdXu, how would you make the mission more satisfying and reflect reality more? Could you not alter it from the editor? just curious, before I fly it! I like your analogy with taking the sim seriously! Like do the mission with fear in your eyes, like that! Regards.
  2. Thats great news! Let us all know if its fixed. The vd3dum and Ntd.dll are are real pain. Sometimes purely driver related to the software running. I solved the issue by deleting the offending add on and the CTD stopped. Your graphics driver upgrade should do the same. If you survive the dreaded Shilka, kill a few and fly back to base, let us all know! Regards.
  3. From your logs I saw a line I have had in the past ( not with BS ) here is a link with info:- http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/nvd3dum/400256/ Also ntdll.dll here:- http://ntdlldll.com/ also:- http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/a/ntdlldll.htm I had this problem with an add on for FSX. The aircraft was the cause. Thats no help to you, however it looks like something you installed has damaged the file. The ACCESS VIOLATION in the file you posted suggests a memory issue. Also, the "crackling" sound you mention? Hope you get it sorted. Its a pita. Regards.
  4. In the sim; The KH25ML at (approximately) M2.5, thats 1900 miles per hour, 31 miles per minute, .52 miles per sec. 38 seconds to travel 20 miles. Sorry I dont think in Metric! The KH25 wont allow a "C" consent to launch, for me, unless I use the "designate" mode for the lazer. I havn't tried it at that range but it sounds interesting. Launched from below 20 meters, (whats that 65 feet?) I doubt it would have the legs! The Kh-25ML - semi-active laser guidance with tandem warhead should have a range of 10K or 5.2 miles. Depends on your belief? http://eng.ktrv.ru/production_eng/323/513/367/ The Kh-25MP (AS-12 'Kegler') - modular anti-radiation variant has a range of up to 40 Km at high launch altitudes. http://eng.ktrv.ru/production_eng/323/511/369/ Looks an interesting challenge. I havn't got to the mission yet. May have to ask Vladimir for the 25MP, I am a General, after all, so how could he say no:smilewink:нет Regards.
  5. Hi, try the link here:- http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=54291&highlight=multi+monitors&page=3 I am considering of going to a triple monitor set up. However, I think its easier to learn to fly the KA 50 properly, than set up multi screen resolutions! I have also come across ( somewhere) that you need to run Black Shark in "windowed" mode? Also that the Dual monitor set up doesn't like Windows 7? Good luck, hope the link helps there are many config setting in other threads there! Regards.
  6. You could try this:- http://www.lockonfiles.com/index.php/files/file/1760-dcs-bs-crystal-clear-nvg-version-2/ May just sort out your problem!
  7. Hi, I dont have an eyefinity set up yet, however as you can see by the below two threads, I am interested in setting up Black Shark on Eyefinity:- http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68233 and:- http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68529 If we can put together a comprehensive list of the settings needed to run BS, perhaps it could be stickied. At the moment it seems you have to hunt through numerous threads to get all the information! From what I have read, the GUI will spread across all three monitors. How are you finding the sim? There may ( or may not ) be a couple of other lua's to edit? But thats what I would like to determine. Regards.
  8. Archer on board?:- Closer inspection? Even gets a target "consent to fire":- Sadly the only way it comes off the rail is:- Looks interesting though! You could always scare the enemy into thinking that you had one aboard! Regards.:smilewink:
  9. I am in agreement with you my friend. The Shkval Optic Sensor is set at 28/100 magnification in the sim. (db_sensors.lua) You have minimum tally ( or none ) before the Shkval resolution "sees" the target. Through the HUD or even peering above it the bandit can't always be seen. However like the fighter jocks say " at a mile a mig is a dot". So my technique is to point the HMS at where you "think" the bandit is an press lock, to swivel the Shkval rapidely to the area. We are viewing the world on a 24" monitor, if your lucky, on a 30", if your very lucky and at 72" if you are on Eyefinity. Yet the pixel pitch of most monitors wont depict anything like real world vision. So its logical to assume that a little "help" is needed to ensure we get an approximation of a real world tally. The power of the dual cone charge when it detonates at the max specified (3.5 meters ) is very powerful. Your explanation I find is eloquent and graphic. In sim the fuse is set at 0 meters. In mine its set at 3.5. ( Missiles_data.lua) If you are happy with the warehead blast and frag, leave it. If a larger ( simulated ) blast and frag is thought applicable, then wareheads.lua. Visibility is variable due to haze and the ability of the lazer to penetrate atmosphere and guide the weapon. At higher altitude ( up to 4000 meters) I would assume less haze. Again Missiles_data.lua. The Vikhr will not turn well, as we know even the AIM 9 at up to 30+ G when IT turns wont stay on target. So again, with Vikhr, a head on or tail shot is the only real shot to take. Like you say the TV lock with lazer on wont ensure a strike at a crossing target. The sim is excellent. Air to air is a real challenge. With the limitations of the type mentioned, I think some mods to assist the simmer to bring him or her towards a real world view would make it even more immersive. "стрелок мз лука inbound? " I'll give it a go. Best Regards.
  10. :imho: Best simulation of a real world combat helicopter there is! The Mission editor and planner is a marvel. Create you own scenarios, only limit is you own imagination! Best manual, that is essential reading. Become an insomniac instantly.:D Regards.
  11. In the Saitek X52 Pro I assign it to POV hat #3. Also works on POV hat #1 with RAlt pressed. Its not very smooth or fast but works. My main employment is to use the HMS over the area and designate the Skhval on to it. Then fine tune with the POV hat. Regards.
  12. Hello Guys. The Vikhr is an Anti Tank weapon with a marginal secondary air to air capability. I delved a little and found that its depends upon two things. Well, three really. Firstly, its Vikhr has a fused detonation set at "between 2.5 and 3.5 metres". The resultant fragmentation does the damage. if you look at the tail of the A10 in the pic, its suitably fragged! Similar results would be from a AIM 9 which as we know relies upon its Annular warhead frag pattern to do the damage. So in my sim the Vikhr has the fuse range at 3.5 metres, not 0. Now the blast effect is amplified with the fusing. Also the "mode" setting in the cockpit, ie. head on ( minimum fuse delay) and other aspect ( longer fuse delay ) is also critical. I set up a mission with some A10's and a Hawkeye, together with some Blackhawks simulating a troop drop escorted by some Hueys! All the aircraft were unarmed and flew very obligingly so I could obtain the Skhval TV Lock and get the TA-NA and then the TA-NY ( sorry my keyboard hasn't got Russian characters!) It was my little experiment to determine if I could use the Vikhr in its secondary AA role.:smilewink: Yes, it can be used aa, but locking the Shkval TV on to a moving target is very fraught, especially for a single pilot. You would be oblivious to anyone locking you up and probably wouldn't survive long enough to hit your launch button! The track wasn't saved due to the fact those shots took me an entire evening and each "kill" was pianfully slow to achieve. As an exercise in the weapons effectiveness, I am happy with my results. As an exercise in the efficiency of deploying the weapon, its not ideal! The other methods I employed was the HMS to point the Shkval rapidly at the aircraft, however they are just dots on a 24" monitor, as they would be in life, so you then depend upon the Shkval optics to see the target and then adjust the gate to as smaller size as possible, to obtain the TV lock and Lazer range. In all, its an excercise I wouldn't advise in a "live fire" mission, I mean where the enemy are firing back. I tried one where the A10's were "weapons free" and I got my rotors shot off very quickly:lol: All academic really, but entertaining and food for thought. If you are designing missions and wish to set up an ambush of a terrorist helo, or a drug runner in a transport aircraft, you could do it KA 50 style. Using a lot of stelthy terrain to mask you and hit the target from max range Which is 10,000 meters ( on a clear day :smilewink:) Another parameter you may look at! Superb sim. The mission creation system is sublime. Only your imagination is your limitation.:D Best Regards.
  13. Hello Steve. The thread above, Triple Monitors.. has some interesting points. Mack has some edits for the monitor setting. looks like there isn't much else to set in BS. ( Hopefully) With the exception of your friends "snapview" edit? The ATI 6970 is the top card at the moment. Its the one I would choose, if I take the plunge and go triple monitors. Most say once you have it set you never go back. The aforementioned thread discusses some of the pros and cons. As you say you are after the newest equipment, there is a new ATI 6990 mooted that may have 4 GB memory.:smilewink: Not out yet but the version seen has a single, dual link DVI and four mini displayport 1.2 outputs. The displayports (being 1.2 spec) can each drive multiple displays alone, e.g. 3 x 1920x1200 if those displays have dp1.2 daisychaining ports (none currently do) or you have a dp1.2 distribution hub (again, none currently available). As future options go though it's the best. In terms of raw power then it should stack fairly well against the GTX580 if not better and exceed the 6970. High resolutions across grouped displays are going to pull it down as they would any card in complex 3d games but it should be fine for DCS BS and FSX. Just need the doe:music_whistling: Best Regards.
  14. ISEGRIM, Yes, I can but that did take up an entire evening! EDDIE, I wouldn't doubt that the A10, flown by a real pilot, would be a helluva target, and I'd be hiding in a gulley somewhere! The AI obviously thought I was not a threat! I had no intention of denegrating the (A10) aircraft, after all it will be my next sim! ISEGRIM, Are you doubting my honesty? I have no reason or inclination to lie. This was an experiment ( for my personal satisfaction ) to prove the Vikhr does what the books says it does. I enjoyed the test and took these few screen shots for entertainment. One word of caution though. I will tell you that the Air to Air Mode for the weapon, should set the fuse to detonate at the correct distance from the air target. This operates in two modalities, namely head on ( minimum delay) and other aspect ( longer delay ). Critically, this is between 2.5 and 3.5 metres. Unless that is set up correctly, there will not be any fusing, no detonation, no fragmentation and no hits!:smilewink: The double conical shaped charge warhead will not take out an aircraft unless it has this fuse set correctly. I would hate to have to directly hit an air target with this weapon:lol: Best Regards.
  15. Thanks Mack. Just those edits into the config/monitorsetup/1camera.lua? Thats good news. Mine just looks like this at present:- name = _('1 Screen'); Description = 'One monitor configuration'; Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = screen.width; height = screen.height; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = screen.aspect; } } The U tube clip I linked elsewhere in the forum, listed a "Snapviews" edit, I assume thats what sets up the FOV? However your info is well recieved. Thanks again. Keeping on the subject of monitors and views, I have just been "practising" with the Vikhr against air movers and from the last 4 hours I have learnt that I definately need a very high resolution monitor, or stronger glasses:lol: Those air targets are dots, perhaps one or three pixels wide at a mile or so! Great realism! Thanks again for the info. By the way, have you ever tried the "Full Screen" (LAlt/F1) with your triple setup? I imagine it would magnify the Shkval on the left monitor and the Abris on the right? Best Regards.
  16. If anyone is interested in how effective the Vikhr can be in Air to Air, I have posted some "shots". The Vikhr is extreemly difficult to aim, but when you do get a TV lock and "Auto Track Target+ Lazer Control" on your hud the results are adequate.:music_whistling: Now thats not to say that a couple of Igla's wouldn't be a desire. There are also certain "techniques" to the Vikhr's weapons employment.:smilewink: Posted it in the screenshots:- http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68810 Best Regards.
  17. Here are a few shots of my use of the Vikhr in Air to Air mode. You definately need the 3.5 metre fusing range on the warehead!:smilewink: (hint to all the folks who want to shoot sown air threats) Here:- Can be done!! I guess the ejector seat works in the A10.:music_whistling: Watchout A10 drivers when we get the sync patch! Oh and here is the winner!! Regards to all!
  18. Hi Mack. Copy what you say re the choices. For myself, I would summarise the negatives as :- 1. TH2GO, limited support for highest resolutions. Costs as much as a ATI 6970! 2. Nvidia SLI, useless in FSX. Dubious driver support from Nvidia. Cost of two 560 or 570's! ( Two 580's would blow my PSU and Nuke my bank account! ) 3. Eyefinity, well several friends say this is the way to go. However, I dont like "Royal Pains.." to set the software up. Not Eyefinity itself, which apparently takes two minutes! No its the fact that BS has to be altered to work? I know its got a triple monitor setting in the GUI, but that's not relevant to Eyefinity. Well, at the moment its leaning towards a majority verdict for a single high quality large monitor and track IR. Apart from BS and of course A10 ( which I shall buy when out on disk ). I fly some PMDG aircraft in FSX. I prefer high quality resolution. It took an age to set up FSX with one monitor and have it run well. I ask myself how it would run with a resolution of 5760 across three screens? Anyway thats a different sim! So its still a "dunno" Hope this thread helps those, like myself, who are trying to decide what to do. We all appear to be in the same boat. It may be helpful to post a sticky with the correct lua and config settings for Black Shark and A10, to take the guess work and mystery out of what parameters need changing. Just a thought. Regards.
  19. Thanks Mack good information there. The touch screen sounds interesting! Whats putting me off is the Lua mods you mention. Before I buy this kit I would like a clear idea of what needs "modifying". I tried the modifications posted, elsewhere in the forum, to set up a two screen system and got nowhere. Then I read that Win 7 doesn't like the settings? I nearly went the Nvidia SLI route, but baulked at the idea since some have said the Nvidia drivers for SLI are still in the infancy? So I dunno really? If I had the money to burn and wanted to play, i'd just go right ahead. I am not going to buy two extra monitors and change to ATI if there are "trial and error" modifications to undertake. Thanks for the information. I will think on it some more! Regards.
  20. Yes and if you direct your view at the side monitor with the Track ir, then that monitor would become your main focus of view, thus, loosing any "fisheye". The only other issue I have ( apart from the questions re altering BS's Lua's ) is the possible loss of resolution/framerates when using the large display area? ie. 5760 x 1080? The CPU and GPU have to work hard to display all that real estate? regards D.
  21. A very good link, thanks Mack! Have you had to adjust any settings in the Black Shark lua's?, Snapviews etc? or does BS just run fine after setting up the Eyefinity on your desktop? Regards. EDIT. I just saw your using two GTX 570's in SLI, so disregard Eyefinity reference. Just curious to know if there is any alterations needed in BS?
  22. Hi Paul. I agree entirely. I see a visual distortion in the feature vid and in others I see on U Tube. FSX on triple monitors have the distortion effect, in varying degrees! I dont even know what methods to employ to correctly set up BS to be visually correct in Eyefinity! Seemingly there are files to alter, I am afraid. Your question, "do you notice"? Ah, now there's a good one! I notice because I see it in the video clips. Even the "front" monitor shows some distortion ( magnification ) when the T-IR pans about. Put yourself in front of an Eyefinity set up, with all the combat jobs to do ( fly helicopter, look for targets, look for threats, deploy countermeasures, assign wingmen, stay alive ) and perhaps you simply wouldn't notice. You wouldn't have time! It appears, if you prefer realism, and with this aircraft, if you fly this sim seriously then you do, the apparent scaling of view is an issue. Perhaps some one has a set of definitive guidelines that provide a good 3 monitor view, with good scaling? Regards. David or Accipiter is a group of birds of prey in the family Accipitridae, many of which are named as goshawks and sparrowhawks:smilewink:
  23. Hi Paul, yes I follow what your saying. My T IR is set so, with perhaps a 20 degree head turn, I can look at 90 degrees in sim! After a while you "forget" its just in front of you. If you prefer a single ( TV Size ) monitor to a triple set up, you are probably seeing what I see, namely the view of the sim in front of you but with the angles available with a little head movement! However I see ( excuse the pun ) what you mean re peripheral vision. I think it would, most likely, enhance the sim if you could "see" that SAM or 30 cal comming at you from a side monitor.:shocking: The video example also demonstrates the low level speed effect, with the trees and buildings whizzing past your rotor blades! Great stuff, immersive and like the real Kamov pilots no doubt feel, quite stressful:D Regards.
  24. Agree Paul. 750 watts should be fine for a single 6970. The ports on the back are:- 1 x Dual Link DVI-I 1 x DVI-D 1 x HDMI 2 x mini DisplayPort So i'd go for two DVI and a Mini DP ( with an adaptor) Regards.
  25. Wow, that soon filled 3 pages!:shocking: Gentlemen, if I may, here's an article re the use of the KA 50 in Chechnya:- http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?25075-KA-50-in-Chechnya.& I thought this paragraph of interest to the discussion topic:- "The "Vikhr-M" missile can penetrate of up to 900 mm of explosive reactive armor from the maximum launch distance of 10 km, which makes it the most deadly anti-tank missile in service around the world. This remarkable missile can also engage aircraft flying at speeds of up to 800 km/h. Even though the Ka-50 is capable of firing dedicated air-to-air missiles, the air-to-air capability of the "Vikhr-M" allows to maximize the efficiency of the available maximum 2,000-kg weapons load." As far as I can determine from the internet, the KA 50 does appear to have an Air to Air missile ( IR ) capability. However, the lack of its implementation is most probably due to the total absence of air to air threats the Russian military have to face in their current theatre of operations. However, the above highlighted paragraph speaks for itself. In our (simulated) theatre of operations, if your weapons platform isn't carrying dedicated self defense IR air to air ordinance, then you must use whatever else you have available to survive and complete your mission. But if we become seriously threatened by enemy air assets, then I am sure the dormant facility to fit self defense air to air, would be a logical step. Either in this simulation or in the case of the real world. Thinking of dormant capabilities, I remember a saying that related to the F-15 when it first flew, "Not a pound for air to ground"! Then there was the Strike Eagle:thumbup: Best Regards.
