Got it. Love it. I haven't been flying the A10 much lately. Having another plane or 2 to fly is great. As much as I admire the A10, flying it and only it gets old. I own and have tried just about every other flight simulation available over the last decade or two and DCS products are the only flight simulator worth flying, in my opinion. Keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to your future offerings.

I found something the other day, or at least I think I did: I had set up a mission to over-fly the highest peaks on the map. I had also set the winds aloft to be a strong tail-wind as I wanted a large ground speed during my decent. Anyway, after passing the highest terrain and in the midst of a high-speed decent, I was suddenly being tossed around for a few seconds. Could it be this simulation models the turbulence one would expect to find on the lee-side of a mountain range with high-speed winds aloft? No way! But there was something there... ED, you rule. Even if it wasn't really there (no, I wasn't drinking or otherwise impaired) the fidelity leaves you with a big grin on your melon. :D

@Rocky Did you give my mission a try? It's single player, so you won't have any issues like what I'm reading in this thread. Also, my mission sends data, so that's a plus ;) If you'd like one without the fog and don't feel comfortable editing, let me know; i'll fix it up. Actually, if there's anything you'd like in the mission to help you practice this excellent simulator, let me know.

Here's a simple one. You might want to edit it to remove the fog. I added it to add some difficulty. Otherwise, pretty easy: 3 target groups and no AAA. SP JTAC Simple.miz

I've found that EPLRS is required if you want data transmitted (as was verified in above posts). I've also found that the TAD NET's OwnID and GroupID can both be set to 1 and the data will be received--at least in terms of SP missions. I suppose this depends on the number of and order of creating other flights...but I don't know. Thanks to the investigative posters above and some digging into existing missions on my own, I now have a good handle on creating JTAC mission types. :D I wonder if simply switching a non-EPLRS unit to a EPLRS unit would work--retain the other commands and such and add the EPLRS -a line. Or, would it be required to delete the unit and replace with a properly equipped unit... /WONDERING_OUT_LOUD off

Yes. The azmiuth information is truncated in the speech for me too. Not sure if this is by design or bug. Also, since we're on the subject, the initial 9-line transmission from the observer has the last part chopped off. Or, more exactly the final line of speech seems to trample over the next to last line--speech-wise.
-
Yes, it is. Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. I've looked through that section and the CDU / TAD sections as well. I also did some ramp time looking over the CDU and TAD. Are you keying in the coordinates given by the observer? When you say you switched to 38T from 37T, you're able to do this by itself or as part of entering the coordinates? If you could, please elaborate on your procedure when accepting JTAC information. Thanks

Sorry to be dense, but what is WTM? I'm having the same problem with the posted mission: I don't receive any data. The settings I use which may or may not have an impact are Easy Communications = On and Radio Assist = Off. These JTAC practice missions were among my favorites and I flew them quite often. Something is different after the latest patch. Not complaining, but would like to solve this puzzle.

The more I fly the new version, the more stuff I notice. Or, placebo effect is in full swing :D The guns now kick up a cloud of dust when hitting ground targets. Has it always done that? Vehicle explosions are more better. I changed my MSSA to 8Q from 4. That helped a bunch in terms of how things look. No FPS hit, but I have my max fps set to 30. Besides looks, would that change anything? I get the feeling there were so many changes, they didn't all get put into the change log. Regardless, awesome work ED!

Mah experience: When I applied the new patch onto my existing 1.1.0.7 install, the files I had modified did not get overwritten (appropriate behavior, btw). I uninstalled, deleted the directory to kill the modified files and then installed the full 1.1.0.7 followed by the new patch. Strangely, the patch installer said the 1.1.0.7 patch was required. I applied the previous patch. The installer was happy and I followed up with the new patch. Ok. I don't know what happened there. Could be user error. Dunno. This morning, I uninstalled again and installed the full 1.1.0.8 install and now all is well.

Impressive update! Unbelievable list of changes. You guys are hard workers ED :D I now have to start carrying an air-sick bag with me on flights. The realism is top-notch. I no longer see even the slightest hic-up when switching on the LANTRN or Maveric views. Nice. Some pre-0.8 missions will have to be edited. I jumped into a ramp start mission and noticed the engines not starting. They were just motoring with no change to EGT. Heh, the fuel was on 0 lbs. No wonder  If I have modded certain LUA files, should I do a full reinstall? It seems the modded files did not get over-written?

Yes. Under the View Cockpit section of the controls form, there's several 'Move Cockpit Camera...' entries. I used these until I got my TrackIR.

I know there was a tutorial on multi targeting, I cant find it

The fuel amount can be changed using the Ground Crew. Selecting Refuel give the option for full, 75%, 50% and 25% fuel.

Mission: Overwatch - plane veers HARD on takeoff
Scratchy replied to kharne's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I tried this mission after reading the OP. I'd never tried it before and am wondering why. It was fun until a SAM got me :D About the takeoff: Yes. there's a crosswind component. The wind is about 180 at 14knots; which is about a 40 degree component on your right-hand side. Couple that with the rough surface on this particular airport and it is a tricky take-off. Here is how I approach this kind of take-off. First, if there's a x-wind, you'll notice the aircraft weather-vaneing (not a word, I know) into the x-wind. Your nose will want to turn into the wind. So, that's your clue as to from which direction is wind is coming. Keep the nose pointed down the runway. Practice...practice. Next, a slight aileron into the wind as your speed increases. Hold this small correction through rotation. As you lift-off, you see the aircraft nose turn into the wind and at that point neutralize the aileron. You'll climb out with the appropriate attitude. As to when to disengage the nose-wheel steering: I disengage at 60 knots. I don't know if this is proper, but it works for me. Finally, I think the crosswind reaction of the aircraft is a bit exaggerated. I don't know this for sure, having never flown a A-10. But, it does seem a bit much. I'll have to try turning off SAS and a poster above mentioned. That might be a contributor to the difficulty. If you haven't tried flying without SAS, you should. It is illuminating as to what this system does for stability. -
Your opinion is noted. For the record, there is a reason for the different Program Files directories. The following link explains the differences. Not necessarily definitive, but the best single-source explanation I could find. In short, 64 bit programs should be installed under the Program Files directory. Do some installations have trouble with this? Sure. But, ED for one, got it straightened out and it works as it should. So, to say you should never install programs under the Program Files directory or have your head examined is not correct.

Interesting... I've not had any issues. Perhaps this was a beta issue only? I'm loving it :pilotfly: I generally get 'done' with a sim after a few dozen hours. With A-10, there's no end in sight. I'm even thinking for selling some blood so I can get a HOTAS WH.
-
I'd wager you don't want to. I did by mistake the 1st time I installed and ended up confused as to which EXE to run. I'm better now. :) The 64 bit goes into the Program Files directory; not the Program Files(x86) directory. Yes, this was another mistake I made the 1st install.

I understand there's the virtual squadron sicky. I've gone through it a few times. There's all kinds: LockOn FC squads and many others. Some are dead-links. I was thinking along the lines of the OP. Could we have a looking for squad thread? Like the OP, we could tell about our region and times we are playing and active squads could answer. Just a thought. Seems it would be a good way to match those looking with active squads.

Here are a of that helped me. Like the other systems, if you study one task at a time you'll have better results. Especially the CDU. There's a lot of functionality here. Update: the first video I linked isn't what I thought. Worth watching, but not very useful.

Editing DCS A-10C Skins Tutorial (Basic Version)
Scratchy replied to Ranger79's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
What is a freeware equivalent (or as close as one could expect) to Photoshop? I'd like to give this a go, but Photoshop is out of my league. I see someone mentioned gimp. Is that my answer? -
I agree that there are too many to list. Some of my recent wow moments: Flying a mission in one of the campaigns, as I ducked into a valley to avoid a SAM site, the radio became weak and scratchy as the signal's line of site to me became blocked; just as it should. Awesome. A dawn mission in the same campaign where there was especially heavy AAA, I decided to vacate the area until the SEAD and CAS flights did their work. Looking back over my wing to the location of the AAA, a number of the ZUs were hosing the air as the flights were attacking the AAA sites. The sight of all the tracer fire against a just-brighting sky was really a wow. Many more besides.

My experience is if you keep your momentum you can taxi on the grass/unpaved surfaces. But, as you slow down, eventually you get stuck as your wheels sink in. At normal taxi speeds, you'll get stuck straight away. I think they (ED) did a great job modeling this aspect. I would be disappointed if I could just taxi anywhere I pleased. At the same time, I'd not like it if my landing gear snapped off as soon as I touched unpaved surfaces.
