Blown Away by the Quality of this Product
Scratchy replied to Laminator's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
No. Not just you. It's an epidemic! -
My config is listed in my signature. I rarely have this happen. Sometimes it happens when I return to airfield for a rearm. The last time this happened it was 'fixed' by turning my console lights up a bit.

Thanks for the reply Greb. Don't worry 'bout it. I was just curious. I'll look at it as an extra challenge.

Look at engine gage panel. The APU rpm will be 100% and APU temp will be stable. No other indication that I'm aware of.

A way is modify your load-out to include smoke pods. I believe there are 4 different colors. These go on the outboard pylons, I think. Afterwards, after the loading of stores information, you'll see them listed on your stores management page. Select them and trigger them, as if firing or dropping a weapon. Presto! Green and Red smoke! Don't forget to turn them off (firing them again) once you've landed or you won't be able to see well enough to taxi.

Would you prefer DCS A-10 over Black Shark?
Scratchy replied to starkey817's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
For me, the BS was easier to grasp, but much harder to fly. I come from a fixed wing background so I get fixed wing immediately. The rotating wings thing is another story. I found it very hard to coordinate hovering, wind compensation and delivering ordinance. That said, I probably didn't give myself enough time to properly learn to fly BS. So, if you're comfortable with rotary wing craft and find flying them not too difficult, BS might be a good starter. Get both! :D -
$00.02 I have a Saitek and I like it ok. It has lots of buttons and hats and I've managed to map everything to it. I only use keyboard for starting and shutting off engines. [the option to define new modifiers is awesome, btw] Having said the above, I would buy a HOTAS WH in a heartbeat, if I could afford one. I fly other sims, like ROF and X-Plane and would be happy to use the Warthog with them :P

Thanks Greb. I really enjoy your missions. I had a question about the 3rd JTAC mission. The one at night. A fun mission. But, when I returned to the airfield, a F-16 was sitting on the runway and not moving. I circled for awhile, but he never moved. I eventually landed past this runway-hog... Was this intentional, or an AI bug?

DCS A-10C landing with 100 knots of wind directly across the runway!

Nice one. :megalol: -
Along with the posts above, a method I use sometimes is RCtrl+Numpad 0. [Forgive me, but I don't know what this is called.] Once in this mode, the 1 through 9 numpad keys focus your view onto certain areas of the cockpit. For example Numpad 4 focuses on the left MFCD. To exit this mode, press Numpad 0. Blackshark has this too...very handy when you want to study your TAD or CDU.

The 1st one I bought was Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer. Released in 1987 by Electronic Arts. I still have it. I remember I had to buy my first graphics card to play; a Hercules MGA which displayed shades or a gradient of amber.:megalol: I've pretty much bought every flight sim since. I was looking through my stash and found 2 different old versions of MS Flight Simulator. Interestingly, the one didn't include a version number in the title nor printed on the box. It is copyright 1982, 1984. Hum. Maybe that's the 1st flight sim... The other MS Flight Simulator is copyright 1989 and has version 4.0 printed on the box. One last note: I also found my copy of A-10 Tank Killer by Dynamix, copyright 1989. So, I'm an old head when it comes to A-10's. :geek: Fond memories all. 3 cheers for flight sims!

Beat me to the punch! :smilewink: I'm a big Steam user, but I couldn't wait. Glad I didn't.

I know this is probably painfully obvious, but I can't seem to find it. How do you map TIR keys to your joystick? Thanks

This is being discussed in this thread. My understanding is the ILS identifier tones cannot be turned down or off. The audio panel button labeled ILS only effects the marker beacon tones, but only if the ILS receiver is tuned in and turned on. If the ILS receiver is on and tuned you'll get the ID tones and the marker beacon tones--the marker beacon tones only if the audio panel ILS button is on and turned up. With the ILS receiver off or detuned you'll get nothing. *whew* This is a little off. But, look at all that's right on! Update RE: the tacan. There's a little volume knob on the tacan receiver that controls the tacan ID volume. It works perfectly.

Great pic StrongHarm. I'm still chuckling.

Yes, yes and more yes. (except the pain meds) This is the most kick a$$ sim ever. I'm constantly amazed at the fidelity. Thanks ED and thanks to the beta testers, who can claim some credit too; believing in the product enough to pay way before release and testing like mad. I've seen unfinished garbage (anyone else buy Dungeon Lords?) through to this apex of software. I like the apex end of things much more.

I have my doubts about the Wiki entry. These are the only 2 hard airspeed restrictions that I've seen in the manual. Maybe that's the only ones. The barber pole is the Vne and the stall warning is the other end of things. I tend to agree with the above linked article as he did quote a USAF publication.

Ask and you shall... Thank you, Sir.

Yellow tick What is the yellow tick or line outside the airspeed indicator? It seems to mark 205 knots or there about. Anything special about this airspeed? It reminds me of other types of airspeed indications in other aircraft: maximum flap operating speed and the like. Just wondering. Not important, but this is the question thread. :)

To add to the above reply: there's also a switch on the bottom right of the altimeter which has positions Electronic and Barometric (the names are from memory, might be incorrect.) Switching to Barometric uncouples the altimeter from the integrated flight system and thereby could be used as you describe. I think. :music_whistling:

A note about the cursor hiding feature. First, I really like it. :D Secondly, it only hides if you have the cursor over a manipulatable item---button, switch or what have you. I don't care, but thought I'd put up an FYI.

I've done some testing on a mission I built. The ILS identifier will sound if the ILS receiver is turned on and is tuned into a working ILS frequency within a reasonable range. [bTW, it shouldn't matter if you're on or near the localizer to get the identifier. This isn't directional (at least not in the US.)] The ILS knob on the audio panel on the left has no effect on the ILS identifier tone; volume nor on/off. It does, however, effect the marker beacon audible tones; volume and on/off.

Thank you, sir.

Not complaining but, I've noted that when using the Weapon to Target view (F6 + LCtrl), initially the view seems to flash between two non-synchronized images. As the bomb continues to fall and gets closer to the ground, this stops and the view is perfect. Not looking for a fix or complaining. I don't think there's a bug report thread, at least not that I've seen, and I wanted to report this mildly off bit. My settings are: Textures - H Scenes - H Civ Trfic - M Water - M Vis Rng - H Heat Blur - On Shadows - H Res - 1920x1200 Single monitor Res of CP - 512 MSAA - 4x HDR - On TSSAA - On Specs in sig.
