  1. Here's a write up on A-10C Warthog at Rock Paper Shotgun. It's not a proper review, but I found it interesting. While he acknowledges the fine work by ED, he spends most of his writeup complaining about the things which make this simulator precious to me. I've waited for a sim like A-10C since the 1st time I saw Flight Simulator 1.0 back in 1982. FS 1.0 was simply a white on black wire-frame which primitively modeled flight. This fired my imagination and from then on I dreamt what could be: Photo-realism, weather, faithful flight model and avionics and weapon systems as they exist in the real thing (as far as I know anyway :P. I've never been within 10 miles of one). He also complains of crashes while not posting his system specifications and demonstrating he runs the sim on XP! So, have a look and see if you agree or not.
  2. :lookaround: It's bound to Q in my setup. That's strange.
  3. I tried your mission. I got it on the ground, but consistently blew at least 1 tire and usually all tires :p Pretty extreme conditions: trailing crosswind with a pretty good sheer at about 300 ft. If I recall, the winds are 145 @ 27 and the runway is 06? :joystick: I wouldn't feel bad about not being able to nail this one consistently. I don't know what the crosswind/tailwind limits are for an a-10, but I suspect this exceeds them. I have noticed in several missions, you are tasked with landing in this type of conditions. Maybe the mission builders will be more reasonable in the future. :D
  4. I see this was requested a few years ago. I would really like to see windsocks on the airfields. It would be a nice piece to add to the realism. Now that smoke blows along with the wind currents, maybe adding windsocks to the airfields might be easier to implement. :music_whistling:
  5. This may be too obvious for some folks, but here goes: I couldn't start my engines and realized my throttle wasn't fully closed. Once closed, no problem. I use the keyboard keys to start/stop my engines. Sure wish I had a fancy HOTAS joystick.:joystick:
  6. Yes, it does fix long load times and more Thanks Bonso. That did the trick for me. In fact, the load times are now faster than before--which is great. I had some weird FPS drop outs and those are now gone.
  7. Is this with all views? Just external? Engines running?
  8. Nice work on the ILS. Marker beacons have appropriate sounds and light the marker beacon panel light. All three beacons too. It's perfect. I also noted an increase in load times. Seems the progress bar gets to about 90% and stops moving for a bit. Not complaining; just observing. FPS seems more steady, but it's hard to be objective when you're pumped! Seems better. Great work ED. Seeding for a few days...
  9. Check the thread at this link . In short, you need to delete the TXT folder in your C:\...\Saved Games\DCS Warthog\Config\Input folder. Once you click the To Text button, you'll no longer be able to use the control configuration until deleting this folder. I'm sure ED will correct this in a future patch.
  10. I completely agree with this advice. You will end up chasing if you use the ADI Localizer bars. The localizer bars are very sensitive, or put another way: a full deviation with the localizer bars is only (about) 1/2 full deflections using the HSI and GP indicators. What I generally do is use both. I use the HSI and GP indicators to get 'in the pipe' and then monitor the localizer bars to monitor whether I'm drifting high/low or left/right.
  11. There's also the Able/Stow ADI Localizer Bar switch. This is on the NMCP (Navigation Mode Selector Panel) and must be set to Able (enable?) to see the bars. Usually, it is set to Stow in most missions.
  12. Yes. Same here. I set mine at startup and after a few maneuvers, it's wonky and I can't cage it again. I don't know when it happens since I don't look at it very often.
  13. I've seen this too. In my case, I shut down and restarted. Is this what you did? I think that when I request external power and leave all avionics on, I haven't seen this. But, then again, my memory isn't too hot.
  14. Thanks for the replies. After posting the original post, I went back and did some more testing. I may have this wrong, but seemingly having the map zoomed out to where the airports are the circle symbols before placing the aircraft groups worked. Where when I was failing, I was placing the aircraft on the runway with the 'camera' zoomed in to where airport details were visible. Not positive. I was glad it worked and didn't spend any time trying to reproduce my problem. Thanks again.
  15. Sorry if this is answered somewhere else, but I couldn't find it using the searching tool. I'm making some navigation training missions and all is going well. But, with the need to quickly get airborn to test the changes I've made, I changed the aircraft to start on runway instead of start on ramp. This is in a single player mode where I'm choosing Player instead of Client on the aircraft group. The problem is when I start the mission after this change, the player is not there. Only the 1st static object I placed is there (in a location between the starting point and landing point--might want to drop some ordinance along the way.) No aircraft. Am I doing it wrong? :smilewink: Or, is this a restriction associated with certain airports? I'm starting at Batumi, btw. I've looked and looked at the aircraft group setting, but I'm not seeing anything. Appreciate any insight you can provide.
  16. Has the HSI changed as well? I don't recall seeing the series of white blocks, which are course deviation marks I suppose.
  17. Yes. These guys are the only PC flight simulator developers who know what they're doing. And they make military sims at that. There are others: MS and x-plane, but ED's products stand head and shoulders above the rest.
  18. I've not seen this radio option either. However, being damage during a flight, landing and then shutting down on the ramp you'll see it...eventually. In fact, your plane gets put on jacks, the access doors open and your crew chief starts yelling at you: "What are you doing!" :D
  19. Here you go my friend: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=69180 Short version...delete the TXT folder in the C:\Users\<profileName>\Saved Games\DCS Warthog\Config\Input directory
  20. I'm a retired commercial pilot with about 4k hours (I know, not much compared to some). I've flown all kinds of fixed wing single and multi engine; small and not so small aircraft. I'm always on the look-out for a sim that can satisfy my need for a fix. DCS A-10 has hit my sweet spot. :pilotfly: I love the flight model and aircraft fidelity. I'm very happy and equally impressed by this accomplishment. Throw in the ability to apply munitions to bad guys...wowzer. I've 'flow' the usual suspects: MFS IV through X, X-plane9, all the Jane's offerings. Pretty much anything that's come along over the years. They all fell short of what I wanted. Anyway...yes, this sim rocks.
  21. Couldn't Wait I was going to wait on the Steam release, but couldn't do it. Instant gratification and all that. ;) And I'm glad I didn't wait. This is one awesome simulator. I'm having a blast. Blast. Get it? :megalol:
