I have just read the manual on page 459 about UTM and MGRS and for someone who I would say was reasonably intelligent, I just find it difficult to get my head around it. They are trying to explain a grid system but I cannot make sense of it. Can someone put this in like a dummies guide even though I don't consider myself a dummy

Should a GBU-12 be able to hit a moving tank?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Why is this, it seems a bit odd? -
If that's the case why am I able to start both engines with all fuel pumps off? Why don't you try it and see for yourself.
-
To be honest I'm finding the BMS manual much easier to digest and and I'm actually enjoying reading it. I'm also watching videos and learning the same way you did now. I really like Fish videos because they are straight to the point and easy to learn. I remember reading about the TAD and thinking hears another Sim that is just going to collect dust on my shelf. I then did a quick look at you tube and his videos were the first I saw. I have all the DCS modules and haven't touch any apart from the A10C. I'm so determined to learn all I can before even looking at any of the others. I might be tempted to play with the F18 when it arrives though :)

I just tried it myself and I can start both engines and run them with all fuel pumps set to off. maybe somehow the engine still gets fuel without the pumps though? Anyone know? Edit: I just read this about aircraft in general. Fuel pumps are not required to be on and are mainly used to keep fuel distribution within limits. 99.9% of all aircraft have 2 or 3 fuel pumps per engine. The boost pump in the tank is just there to keep the secondary fuel pump from cavitating. On start the fuel control which consists of 2 pumps that run in series or parallel are set to parallel which increases flow but lowers pressure...... I could go on forever, but your answer in simple terms is that fuel boost pumps are mainly used to maintain proper fuel distribution.

I wish I had your optimism, but I recall in December, 2013, when there was talk about Nevada been released in January, 2014. I won't put a wager on it, but I bet you're wrong. I bet we won't see either of these in 2014 and I'll be back here to say I told you so :)

Maybe some fuel left in the pipes? How long do they keep running for?

Where is the nose of the A10C pointing?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I found this link explain everything I needed to know about AOA, which was my primary goal in asking this question. Excellent read and straight to the point. http://kriegsimulation.blogspot.co.uk/2010/10/dcs-10c-warthog-angle-of-attack-watch_24.html -

Now you got me all paranoid. I better switch off my webcam or make sure it's facing straight on :) -
Where is the nose of the A10C pointing?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Well it does look similar to where the cross in Falcon is, so I did wonder if that was it. However, if someone disagrees with this please let me know because I'm not entirely sure either. -

Now you got me confused. So is the Depressible Pipper when set to zero ((standard value) where the aircrafts nose is pointed? -
Where is the nose of the A10C pointing?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I did mean this, I know the velocity vector shows the flight path, but where on the HUD does it show me where the nose of the aircraft actually is pointed? -
Edit: Can someone tell me where on the HUD does it show me where my nose is pointing? I read in the Falcon sim it is marked by a cross in the HUD. I know the velocity vector shows my flight path, but I want to know what symbol in the HUD shows where the nose is pointing in the A10C. Thanks!

I have tried to get into the manual, but I'm just not good at reading and learning something at the same time. Not something on such a big as scale as this anyway. This is made even worse by the fact that this is the first flight sim I have played, so I really have had to start from scratch not knowing anything about planes. I'd say I'm about half way into learning the A10C though, so I'm getting there. Funny that you mention the Falcon manual, because I have it right here. I bought the original Falcon when I bought DCS, but didn't get chance to play it. Do you think reading this manual from Falcon could help me with DCS?

I'm still learning the A10C, and find reading the manual frustrating at times. I have learned more watching video tutorials then I have sticking my head in the manual for hours on end and trying to put what I have read into practice. I watched a video tutorial about the TAD recently, I knew all there was to know in under 1 hour of watching that video. If I'd of been reading the manual about the TAD, it would have taken me hours to take it all in. I just wish there were more videos covering topics like weapon settings on the MFCD and also about the CDU. Does anyone know if any videos like this exist? I think there was a video by a Crew Chief once, but I can't seem to find it.

I just read what they said and on one hand they say they don't think it will be released in November or December, but near the bottom they say Nevada will probably be released near end of December. Bit confusing if you ask me unless Nevada isn't DCS World 2.
-
The bit I don't understand is they say DCS world 2, may not be ready in November or December because of several new projects, But then further down they say the NTTR map will probably be released late December? I thought DCS World 2 was Edge? So how are they going to release one without the other?
-
I thought DSR had to be added before it could work? I cannot find the list of games it is supposed to work with but there was no mention of DCS? So do the games need to be added or not? I'm a bit confused after reading they did need adding.

Should a GBU-12 be able to hit a moving tank?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I think I might have found where I'm going wrong apart from height been one factor. I think the other reason is because I'm not setting up for the target correctly. I'd really appreciate someone filling in the blanks for me on this subject. Once I have called IP what distance in nautical miles should I be from the target when calling in the other commands? Like how many miles from the target when I ask JTAC for laser on? Then for calling over the radio things like "in" etc? If someone could just list the commands after I give the IP call and then the miles you need to be from the target when calling each one in it would be great. Also, what page of the manual does it explain what I am asking for above because I cant seem to find it. Thanks for the help! -
Should a GBU-12 be able to hit a moving tank?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I will take all what has been said into account and let you know how it all goes. I'm just learning to do stuff with JTAC atm, so it's more then likely I am doing something wrong. I'm going to try dropping the bombs from height without using the JTAC and see how that goes. @Mike - I clicked on LSS once I asked JTAC to laser the target which they did. I then thought I could use the JTACS laser and all I had to do was drop the bomb. I was in CCIP mode and just dived for the target from about 6000 FT. I did watch the bomb and noticed it made no attempt to head towards the target, it just acted like a dumb bomb. One other thing I found quite annoying is that sometimes when I ask them to laser the target, the laser can suddenly jump off the target and go to the mark point. I'm not sure what that is all about, but it's happened a couple of times now. -
I watch a documentary on smart bombs last night, all about laser guided bombs. I totally got how they worked and so I thought I would put it into practice in this sim. The documentary showed a laser bomb been used against a moving tank and it had no problem taking the tank out. I first tried to use a GBU 12 against a moving tank, but they just kept on missing? I target them using CCRP form about 5000ft and press the laser with about 12 seconds to go, but they all just missed by some distance? I then had the JTAC laser the target for me. I released the GBU-12 using the same code as the JTAC 1688, but again though the GBU-12 missed? I used CCIP this time to release the bombs! So, first question. Why does the GBU-12 have problems hitting moving targets and would this be the case in real life? The documentary showed them to be quite accurate at this. Second question. How come when I release the GBU-12, while in CCiP, and the JTAC lasering the target...Does the GBU-12 miss the target? I thought the bomb just followed the flash at the end of the laser? Again this was with a moving tank.

Any JATAC training missions for A10C?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in User Created Missions General
EricJ- Thanks, but I'm trying to learn the A10C, and not just trying to get the tank taken out. I have taken the tank out a number of times quite easily, but I just want a mission that will teach me all there is to know about the JTAC and inputing coordinates into the CDU. I mean, it took me long enough to learn all this, so I'm hoping it all works instead of been bugged and a total waste of time. -
Any JATAC training missions for A10C?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in User Created Missions General
Hey Just one more thing about that mission. When I put the coordinates in the CDU, UTM, that the JTAC gives me, I have found them to be way of the target area. Can you tell me if you are aware of this? I don't think I am doing anything wrong when I place them in the CDU, but just to make sure this is what I do. On the CDU 1) Waypoint 2) Elevation 3) GG***** coordinates 4) select mission on the dial. 5) Select the waypoint number and name comes up GG***** same as the coordinates. I have found it to be nowhere near the target and I don't even see a new square created? Thanks! -

Thanks for clearing that up Sabre, I appreciate it.
