What's the best SSD to get for DCS?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Why is it better to have your games on one SSD and your OS on another? Wouldn't it be better to just have everything on one SSD and back it up? What are the benefits of having two SDS drives? -
What's the best SSD to get for DCS? I've asked this because I heard you can get some that cause stutter and I don't want that to happen. Thanks!

Does anyone know if there is a problem with with Multiplayer? I can't seem to join because of crashes since installing the new patch. How do I do a repair if it's not broken? Thanks!

Why have the screen shots of Nevada been taken out of the news letter?
-
If it's in a closed beta and is quite solid, then I see no reason why they can't just release it as a beta to use. We have the option to then play it or not since we have two versions of the Sim already.
-
They said something similar in December 2013 about finishing touches ect.
-
Nope, but the news letter could have been bit more interesting with some screen shots. I just hope I don't forget all I learned about the A10C while waiting for this new map. I've lost all interest in the old map now even with new aircraft. I'll get back into DCS once it has something decent to fly around in and look at.
-
Did I miss the news letter or is it due any minute now?
-
I can't wait for them to announce EDGE release date in 2 days time, I've just woken up though and do realise this is just wishful thinking :) Will be a real shame if it isn't out soon, I just spent ages learning the A10C, and then got bored looking around the same old map and haven't played in 3 weeks. I really wish they had just left the old desert map in the game because even that was better then the current map. While nobody moans about a sale, it's the only news I seem to see now.
-
Wasn't it December 2013 that edge was running a little late and wouldn't make it for that month? That was a year ago now, so I'm hoping this isn't like that movie Groundhog Day. I got the impression from the last news letter that it was already setting use up for some bad news to come in December 2014 though. I hope i'm proved wrong.

EDGE released before Christmas? I'm just writing my Christmas list out and didn't know if to put EDGE on the list. I will be totally spent up after Christmas and EDGE will have to wait if it's any later.

You can set the course by turning the dial on the lower right corner of the HSi. It says: "Course set" on top of the dial. You will see the numbers change in the top right corner of the HSi as you turn the dial. The HSi gives you the correct course to take. When you aligned the bars in the middle of the HS you are on course. I just use the lines on the TAD to make sure I am on course though. Just make sure your plane is following the line to the way point on your TAD and you are on the right course.

Is the Manual wrong? I Need help. Thanks!
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I have the Devkit 2 and while it really feels like you are in a jet unfortunately the HUD isn't clear enough to make out. I couldn't believe how real it feels though the A10C is massive inside the Rift. -

Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Well I have sort of read the manual only a bit back to front. I want to learn the emergency procedures and then want to tackle the CDU. The only problem I have with the CDU is I'm not sure what I really need to learn and what is just for show. At the moment I can use the CDU for Offset and creating a waypoint, I can also use divert and a couple of other things. Can you suggest what else I learn about the CDU? -

@Flagrum - Yes you are right it's just a continuation of that page. I mistook it to mean press L5 to see the page I was already on LOL. Red faced at this very minute LOL. -
Please read page 181 to 182 of the manual and tell me it's the manual that is wrong and not just me not getting it. This Sim is hard enough to learn without the manual totally confusing the hell out of you. I have included some pics to show you the problem I'm having. So I turn the dial to Waypoint and I get the display on the CDU shown in the first Pic I uploaded. This is the correct display, but its the next part of the manual that appears to be wrong. It then says in the manual (page182) that if you select line 5 it allows to to go to the Waypoint page P1/2 and displays the following information I have highlighted below. The problem been is I don't see any of the information below. When I press line 5 (Waypoint) which it tells you to do in the manual, it just takes me to a totally different page which is shown in the second Pic I have uploaded. Time to Go to Steerpoint, L8. manual Magnetic Heading/Distance to Steerpoint, L9. ANCHOR Page (ANCHOR PT) Branch Line Select Key, R7. Time to Go to Anchor Point, R8 Magnetic Heading/Distance to Anchor Point, R9. Anchor Point to (TO)/from (FR) Rotary Line Select Key, R9.

How do I orbit without getting masked?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
What degrees of turn can you normal get before you start to get masked? I think I read somewhere it been ten degrees or five degrees, but I won't get the chance to test it till the weekend now. -
Maybe just get the glass of water before you start the Sim and have it at the side of you, but some where away from your computer. I have a glass holder on my table after ruining a few good keyboards because of my like for beer and gaming.
-
Are you certain AP has actually gone into path mode? Have you tried it without going to fill a glass of water :)

How do I orbit without getting masked?
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
@ff4life4 - Don't apologise for the long post, it's really appreciated and explains everything very well. Can you explain when to use INR- Track, if you have got time. I'm just not sure what it does and cant seem to find much about it in the manual. I could be looking in the wrong section though. Thanks! -
Can someone tell me if its possible to orbit without getting masked? The problem I'm having is finding moving targets and then losing them because I have been masked while I'm orbiting. I am setting these targets up for a laser guided bomb. I would also like to know when it's best to use INR track? I'm a bit unsure what this mode does. Does it continue to track moving targets even after they have been masked or something? Thanks!

UTM and MGRS Coordinates Explained - NOT
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
@14_JAR I get it now after looking at this training guide, but what I don't get is that DCS world map only shows the grid upto GG21. It doesn't include the smaller grids with numbers, so am I right in thinking I won't be able to use DCS map to find my own coordinates? I did notice there are some downloads like Batumi, but isn't there anything that covers the would of the DCS world map? -

Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
This is they way I did did it before reading the manual. I think you are right about the manual failing to teaching you well, it just complicates a very easy procedure. I think I'm just going back to watching videos ect. I think I'm nearly there learning most things. I'v'e just got emergency procedures to learn and the CDU. I also have to get used to using the DMS and TMS switch without getting confused in the heat of battle. -
UTM and MGRS Coordinates Explained - NOT
Dudester22 replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I get what you are saying, but can I leave the dial on MISSION when getting a UTM coordinates from JTAC? Or do I always have to have it set to FLT PLAN first, each time I enter a UTM coordinates by JTAC? I'm unsure because I read this in the manual. To make the UTM coordinate provided by JTAC into a waypoint do the following: Find a safe area to do a wide orbit. Set your autopilot to ALT and then make a left or right banking level turn and hold it. Then engage the autopilot and ensure it is holding the turn and you have no elevation conflicts around you. The UTM coordinates will be in the form of 2 letters and 6 numbers. Make sure your STEER PT switch on your AAP Panel is set to FLT PLAN. Set your right MFCD to the CDU repeater function. *NOTE: If your CDU is not on the WAYPOINT PAGE, then hit the WP key on the CDU, or FUNC 3 on the UFC. This will bring up the page where you can choose to select WAYPOINT by hitting OSB 7. You should now be on the WAYPOINT PAGE and ready to continue. Hit OSB 10 to switch from the default L/L (Lat/Long) to UTM. Hit OSB 9 to select the number presented next to the question mark as your new target waypoint. Using the CDU or the UFC, enter the 2 letters, and 6 numbers without spaces in the scratchpad. Hit OSB 16 to enter the UTM coordinate in to the computer. Verify the number entered is correct. Using the CDU or UFC keypad give your new waypoint a unique name eg: TGT A and hit OSB 7 to change the name. Now turn your STEER PT dial on the AAP from FLT PLAN to MISSION. -

Just one other thing guys while I am on this subject. When you enter a UTM coordinates given by JTAC, do you always have to set the the dial to FLT PLAN first and then turn it to MISSION? I was wondering if I could just leave it set to MISSION after receiving the first UTM coordinates and enter anymore UTM JTAC coordinates that might come in after that. It does say in the manual it must be set to FLT PLAN first, but I'm not sure if you have to switch it back and forth between each call. Thanks!
