  1. Are they anything like beer nuts? Mmmm ... beer nuts ...
  2. I agree, if it is linked, there should be no problem. Yep, I'm planning on only flying helos in singleplayer, even though I also "lub" them :icon_wink
  3. Doh! I guess if I'd have just bothered to do a Google image search I could have seen that straight away ... Anyway, thanks for your answer! Do you know if the blade pitch is automated in some way, so the pilot only needs to worry about the engine revs (or vice versa)? Is it even fly by wire (I'm guessing not ...)?
  4. Oh man, that is just too rich. As a matter of fact, I am Scottish. I moved to Montreal 5 months ago. However, that is completely irrelevent. Really you should be judging people by the content of their posts, not by where they happen to live. Not only would your world-view bear a closer resemblance to reality, but you also wouldn't feel the need to throw insults around left right and centre based on hasty assumptions. This would mean you would put your foot in it less often, and look less like a fool. I offer this advice free of charge, there's no need to thank me.
  5. Right, in the same way they watch the British armed forces lest an attempt is made to recolonise the US. They better also be keeping tabs on the Italian military, in case they decide to reclaim the territory of the Roman Empire. Don't forget about those Egyptians either! They might want to start rebuilding those pyramids any day now ...
  6. Ok, that's fair enough. But if you don't know for sure, have a guess! My personal feeling is that with maximum realism, you will need separate throttle, joystick and pedals. However, the throttle will do the job of both the throttle and pitch shift. I still don't know about whether or not the real Ka-50 links the tail rotor to the throttle/pitch shift. Surely someone must know? Crack open those Jane's guides!
  7. The British recently conducted successful trials of using unmodified Apaches from naval vessels.
  8. Without getting into the whole "hard doesn't necessarily mean real" debate here, is anyone willing to have a guess as to how difficult this helicopter will be to fly? I mean, with all realism settings on, it should be very difficult, and require the use of separate joystick, throttle and pedals. Can anyone tell me if the Ka-50 has separate throttle and rotor blade pitch controls? If so, I can't get my head around how ED will implement this in a PC game - I can't think of any products on the market that allow you to control both simultaneously (except the ultra-expensive Copycat controls). Also, does anyone know if the Ka-50 has linked throttle and tail rotor controls (if so, that's one example of easier being more realistic)?
  9. I agree. In simming days gone by, the norm was to model one, and only one, aircraft, with the intention being that you got as much fidelity as possible. To complain about the number of planes in LOMAC (especially since you get new ones with every expansion pack) is, in my opinion, rather short-sighted. I think there are some people who will never be happy no matter how many planes are made flyable ... just look at the IL2 and Pacific Fighters franchise; there's about 100 flyable planes available now, but there are still people on the forums whining about how this or that plane isn't flyable. I have an inkling that it is these same people who are happy to install the 'fly any plane' mod in Falcon 4 - the cockpit is that of a Falcon, as is the avionics and flight model, yet they're happy to believe they're flying something different simply because the 3D model and skin is of an A10 or something. Personally, I think it is dangerous to put so much emphasis on making so many planes flyable, as you run the risk of reducing the fidelity of them all, and in addition, you take away valuable programming time that could be spent fixing bugs, improving graphics, or even (dare I say it), improving the campaign engine. I'm happy that 1.2 is introducing only one new flyable aircraft (although I'm especially happy it's a helicopter; just how long has it been since the last decent helicopter sim?).
  10. Anyone know how easy this will be to fly? Everyone knows that flying a helicopter is a b*tch compared to modern jets (stick-wise). (Don't know about you but I hope it's hard! Give my rudder pedals a workout ...)
  11. WHAT UTTER RUBBISH! I'm speechless ... SP and FF were so much more than graphical improvements, the reason both of them started in the first place was to fix bugs and to make data edits to vastly improve realism.
  12. This is a false dichotomy. There is no reason you couldn't have both if that's what was really desired.
  13. No way dude ... do you realise how long it's been since the last decent helicopter sim? THAT MOTORBIKE IS THE COOLEST THING THAT EXISTS
  14. Falcon 4.0: Allied Force is first in what is called the 'Battlefield Operations' series, which, rumour has it, will achieve this precise goal. It was Gunship! not Gunship 2000 that was going to integrate with the sequel to M1 Tank Platoon 2, but the developers went bust. A shame, M1 Tanks Platoon 2 was a great game (Gunship! wasn't, though; it sucked).
  15. Can someone tell me where I can find out more about these fixes?
  16. Where would I get these fixes? They aren't in the latest patch?
  17. Hmm, interesting. In your opinion, is LOMAC more processor intensive or more GPU intensive? In other words, would it be worth me upgrading my graphics card?
  18. I just recently bought LOMAC, and while I'm enjoying it I find the framerates a little on the slow side for my machine. I really want to get Flaming Cliffs (for the Su25T's AFM) but I want to make sure that these extra calculations won't slow my machine down even more.
