  1. Sorry, I was trolling ... Although you're right, Ride of the Valkyries a la Apocalypse Now would be SO much better ...
  2. M1 Tank Platoon 2 was released in 1998, and you're complaining that its graphics are not impressive? There may be more to it than I typed in my last post, but the picture YOU'RE painting is still garbage. You cannot believe that running LOMAC at the same time as R:TW will give an accurate indication of framerate. You would be forcing the CPU to run TWO sets of AI, TWO SEPARATE graphical engines, in fact, two of everything - you seem to think that there is nothing to R:TW other than its rendering of troops, when in fact it is a very deep game with a lot of other things having to be calculated at the same time. Adding some graphical representations of humans to LOMAC is so totally different from what you are describing I'm spluttering in disbelief.
  3. What are your specs?
  4. Rubbish, M1 Tank Platoon 2 had infantry, and that was released in 1998. Newer games have shown that you can render large numbers of detailed troops and still have smooth gamepaly (see Rome: Total War).
  5. No, but you can max out the antialiasing on the MFDs!
  6. Exactly, I'm waiting to see if this catches on first (although I really hope it does).
  7. Wow, this is so cool! Imagine a Beowulf cluster of F15Es!
  8. For some of the small things coming in from the upper left/right the weapons display says HF, so I guess that is Hellfires (I didn't think Cobras carried Hellfires, but there you go ...) At 10:35 the whole building being viewed erupts ... yet the weapon being displayed is gun. So I definitely think the Cobra is lasing the target.
  9. Right, can anyone help me identify ALL the weapons used in this video? The scenes with the cannon, rockets and TOWs are all obvious (although it is funny how slow the TOW is!). However, there are other scenes where the chooper appears to be lasing the target from great range, and then a very fast projectile impacts the target from directly above it (i.e. enters the camera shot vertically). There are at least 2 different weapons that act like this, one creates a large earth-moving explosion, the other creates a smaller impact. I'm guessing the larger one is an LGB dropped by another aircraft, but what could the smaller projectiles be? Laser-guided mortar rounds, or something weird like that? I'll look at the video again tonight and see if I can give the exact location of each relevant scene (I don't have it on my computer at work). Oh yeah, and if the tracker's still up, I'll try seeding it for people who don't have it yet :-)
  10. I know what you mean. I hate Rammstein.
  11. This is very true. Do we have any indications as to how much of this ED is going to try?
  12. What are your frame rates like?
  13. Oh man, I hope so!
  14. Yes, I felt that was also very unrealistic. If Halle Berry was giving ME a BJ, I'd be lucky if I could write my name in crayon.
  15. What?! So programmers never 'jack in to the mainframe' or route everything through 3 satellites so that they're impossible to track? I feel cheated ...
  16. F15 vs. Zero anyone?
  17. Yes, but what about the dynamic campaign? It sucks when your powered hanglider isn't allowed to influence the outcome of WWIII ...
  18. While this would be cool, I hope ED do it properly and use real fluid dynamics calculations to simulate the 3D effect; anything less would be a betrayal of the whole 'high-fidelity flight sim' ethos. I don't mind if I have to upgrade my CPU, but what about also making those new physics processing cards a requirement? ;)
  19. I second this request, even if it comes only as part of 1.2.
  20. Do we know if 1.2 will introduce any DX9 effects?
  21. The military doesn't know how their own systems behave? Why not plug a dedicated RF system sim (hardware and software) into a flight sim?
  22. ... in a home PC game.
  23. Does anyone know of any more details about this simulation? I remember hearing something about this a long time ago, so I think it was probably run a while ago - not sure how they modelled the F-22 and EF-2000 back then. Also, the article doesn't mention what missiles the non-Russian aircraft were modelled with.
  24. Have you seen this site ...? http://www.thunder-works.com/news.htm Give me the Tornado.
