  1. What on Earth is that thing with the forward swept wings? Cool vid!
  2. No doubt ... One day, my friends ...
  3. Tornado and Harrier (Gr.9 AND Sea Harrier) for sure!
  4. I know what you mean! Come on boffins, where's my VR?!
  5. That movie is hilarious!
  6. Which is a shame as it takes transistors away from processing graphics. I really hope these things take off, and by that I mean I hope there's going to be more games that utulise them.
  7. I second this motion.
  8. Battlenuns rule!!!!!
  9. Now the Pheonix has been withdrawn from service, are there any missiles currently in development that can match its range?
  10. IR Mavericks already are fire-and-forget. Only the mmw Hellfires are fire-and-forget, not the laser guided ones. What other reasons make you think that the Hellfire is much better than the latest Maverick? (However, it's necessarily not true that the A10 would need a Longbow-style mmw radar to use the mmw Hellfires. The British Harrier Gr.9 will use the Brimstone missile (a development of the mmw Hellfire) and the Harrier has no radar ... the missile's own radar head does the job.)
  11. Wow, those new textures totally transform the graphics! Looks like I might have to give this one a dusting off ...
  12. What are these addons of which you speak? Have you managed to get it running on XP with a USB joystick?
  13. http://www.thunder-works.com/news.htm I can't wait.
  14. So it's not definite that we're going to be saddled with the F16? Hooray! :icon_jook
  15. LOL, good one. I am of course assuming you're joking.
  16. Anything that's not the F16.
  17. Considering the wealth of alternatives out there, for ED to chose the F16 of all things, is depressing. I'm not saying they had to choose a Russian plane, just not the plane that's featured in the only other jet flight sim that's around right now.
  18. Yeah, as long as it's American happiness ... And try telling the people in Guantanamo Bay you're promoting freedom ... I've never heard a bigger load of drivel. You've allowed yourself to be brainwashed by Fox News. This is the scariest thing about the US ... many of its citizens truly believe that it's still the 'Freest Nation on Earth', when that is far from the case. How can the population do anything about it when they don't think anything is wrong? Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.
  19. The usual American arrogance. I am a British citizen currently in Canada. If I want to cross the border into the US, not only will I have to show my passport, I will be FINGERPRINTED, like some damn criminal. Innocent until proven guilty? Land of the free? Not any more.
  20. So I guess the take-home message from all this is don't update your Saitek software?? PS I've got an X-52 as well ... can anyone send me a profile to try (d9720267@fsmail.net)?
  21. No way, I can't wait for a good chopper sim!
  22. Wow, I'd have thought your frame rates would have been better ... Are you running it with all settings maxed out?
  23. Exactly, even just bitmapped sprites a la M1 Tank Platoon 2 would do - they'd look just fine until you got REALLY close (and you could have them at higher resolution than in that 1998 game). And contrary to what has been posted elsewhere, troops DO fire at helicopters - just ask the crew of the Apache that was brought down by small arms fire in the last Gulf war! Even if small calibre rifles aren't likely to do much damage to an armoured chopper, you might still get a lucky hit. And that's without medium machine guns, anti-materiel rifles and RPGs (obviously these things are only going to be a threat at close range, but that's the point - IRL I'd imagine chopper pilots are wary of getting too close to live enemy troops, so the game would have to have a similar motivating factor). Plus there might be intelligent solutions to the problem of having lots of AI entities milling around - that's why I gave the example of Rome: Total War. There a lot of the AI is dealt with at the unit level - with each individaul SEEMING to have its own animations, actions etc, but in actual fact much of that is simply scripting, and is triggered by what the overall unit is doing. Therefore, each group of soldiers would act as an AI entity, without them all performing the exact same actions like robots.
  24. When you're only getting 20 fps ghosting is a help, not a hindrance, LOL!
  25. I still don't understand why they decided to do the F16. How many good quality modern jet sims are there on the market right now? Other than LOMAC I can only think of F4 (as AF in its current incarnation). And what is the ONE plane that is lovingly modelled in that sim? That's right, the F16. My dream aircraft would be the Tornado or Harrier, but I realise these might be deemed too 'niche', so I would definitely prefer the F18 over the F16. BTW I don't want to get into the whole LOMAC vs. AF thing either, they both have different strengths and they both are excellent in their own ways. All I want to see is an aircraft that hasn't been done that recently.
