FWIW.... I 3d printed and built a DIY kit a couple months back, and it is amazing. I haven't had a FFB stick since the original CH ForceFX back in the 1990s, but always wanted one again. Anyone who races with a FFB wheel knows how much FFB adds to a sim. I saved maybe $200 (and months of waiting) at best when you factor in the cost of the bill of materials. You could maybe save more hunting down the cheapest prices, but good old Amazon had everything to me within a week. I have been 3d printing since 2019, so I had a head start and a better than decent printer at my disposal (Bambu X1). The Rhino can output a lot of "force" relative to sprung controllers, but more importantly varying the stick forces is a game changer. You can have a stiff spring and a friction clutch in Virpil/VKB sticks, but you can't "feel" the changes in forces in the sim. Flying the recently released F-4E is phenomenal. You can feel the changes in stick forces as speed changes subsonic to transonic, and you can "feel" the AOA without having to check the gauges in a dogfight. Warbirds are just as fun with stick forces varying with speed, and helos are night and day better. Another thing I noticed is the onset of visual and audio queues in most modules telling you when you are pushing AOA limits or are near a stall lags behind what the airframe is doing (or my eyes/ears don't pick it up until it is more developed), and the Rhino will let you feel it before you see it on the screen. I am probably not describing it very well, but my flying improved overnight after decades over controlling with stick inputs without realizing it. For example a P-47 in a dive will have a progressively stiffer "pull" automatically causing me to gently pull back vs yanking it back bleeding energy due to excessive G loading. A spring/clutch setup can't give you that kind of feedback for energy management. The free TeleMFFB software adds additional feedback too based on hooking into DCS telemetry. Things such as countermeasures and weapon releases lightly "thunk", guns/cannons vibrate in the grip, and there is shake/rumble at the edges of a stall, when airbrakes are deployed, etc. Lots of subtle and easily customizable (with sliders) effects that really add to immersion. Is it a must have? No, and if you mostly run fly-by-wire modules, you might think all the other effects are not worth the investment and arguably would not be wrong. It isn't cheap, but I am 100% satisfied with the investment.

I am testing the waters to see if anyone local to me is looking for an Obutto cockpit. I have the r3voltion cockpit (https://obutto.com/product/r3volution-cockpit/) for a single monitor setup that I just don't have the space for anymore. It is currently disassembled. If there is any local interest I can put it together and take pictures. The seat is in perfect condition and one of the stick mounts has 4 holes drilled for a Virpil stick base. It is too expensive to ship, and I am looking for a best offer with local pickup or delivery (Henderson/Las Vegas area).

I can think of 2 reasons to link… 1. Some games (not DCS) have a limit on how many USB devices they will detect. Linking can help if you are 1 over the limit. 2. You want to control the LEDs on both with Virpil’s link tool, and it can only manage a single device last time I checked. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

FYI, You can use the “Cockpit View” bindings to move the camera forward in MP to look down into the front cockpit and manipulate/verify the countermeasures switches. Then hit camera center or move camera back to reset the view. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Thanks! I will put those tips into practice! I am still breaking the engine occasionally, and I am sure your pointers will help. I am 7 missions in now, and have the AI sorted (workarounds noted in Reflected’s video). 7 hard earned kills protecting the “Big Friends” that played out like WWII gun cam footage. Easily the best campaign I have ever played in any flight sim. Hits all the “realism” marks, totally immersive, and I feel like part of the war effort vs having to singlehandedly shoot down AI like John Wick in every mission. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Thank you foe the quick response. I finished the video you recommended and took notes on your engine management recommendations and AI pointers. The campaign as a whole is mind blowing. The large formations of fighters and bombers is jaw dropping. No sim has ever looked this impressive and immersive, and the work you put into it is as amazing as the results on screen. I don't mean to come off as a complainer, and this campaign is a dream come true, but I am running into some show stopper issues... 1. The AI climb rate forces me to overstress my engine to keep up. - Multiple missions I have blown my engine running high mp and rpm just to stay in contact with my flight (52/2550) until they level off. No matter how careful I am with the temps the engine blows late into the mission. I either fly solo lagging miles behind, or blow the engine keeping in formation. I spend more time trimming and playing with oil/intercooler shutters to minimize drag than enjoying the flight. 2. My element lead is a coward. - At the point of contact with the Luftwaffe, my flight lead will turn the other direction, descend down to 12-15K, putz around away from the action, and then turn for home when the radio call comes in to form up and leave without ever getting close to an enemy plane. This has happened on 3 missions in a row (4, 5, 6). On the way home my engine blows (see #1).
