Hello, I am curious about how folks deal with the 9 line info about threats. Currently I am enjoying using the offset from IP information to make a waypoint on my target. There is usually added stuff like Zeus 3mile northeast. How do you all deal with this? do people tend to make a second offset waypoint from the target waypoint and then neutralise the threat, or just make a mental note to avoid that area and stick on the jammer and chaff like crazy? or just slew the TGP a bit towards the NE and hope to find it...? Any tips would be great. Also, if you see on the threat indicator, (eg) 08. You know there is a SAM over in a certain direction. I would like to kill him before he kills me, but dont want to spend 40 minutes slewing around the TGP. Any clues how to find him? maybe assuming the wingman has already bought it so you cant send him in... I dont want to use Icons, or target headlock, if such a thing exists.

Not thunder I hear the thunder as well I don't have a problem with that, but I hear very clear sound of rain falling on canopy. Strange that you don't hear it as well, perhaps if I posted a track? -

Hi, I have 1.1.0.7, (it was a clean install of 1.1.0.6 then patched up to 1.1.0.7). Mission attached, it is someone elses that I modified by adding dynamic weather, and a few other things for target practice. EDITAerial_Refueling_Training.miz -
I have mine pretty much at default settings and rarely have a problem, Are you using a proclip? I found that makes it a lot better. It seems like a shame to have something so instinctive and natural as Track IR and then have to make a bigger movement to get your mans head to move. When occasionally I have had the problem you have, where you cant quite get the switch, it seems to creep away just as you are bringing the mouse towards it, I have found if I make a conscious effort to stop looking AT the switch. Just keep your head still and be careful to just move your eyes. Then again, maybe I will try the deadzone too.

Wow! Amazed how many sims passed me by! I thought I had them all, but now you remind me, how could I have forgotten F16 Combat Pilot, I LOVED that- So Real! In retrospect my favorite things about that sim were, that you started in a hanger, and you could taxi back in at the end and get rearmed I think (A BIT LIKE DCS A10C!), Im sure you could get bombed if you werent in the hanger too? or was that just part of my private fantasy. Also it had crossed runways and some sort of campaign. I will now admit that I had a Martin Baker ejection seat from a Buccanear in my bedroom, bought it from a scrapyard for 16pounds. I used to sit on there, and if I was in a dogfight, hold my breath, to simulate blacking out with the G-forces. Brilliant! The ejector seat came useful as I got older, good for parties where you would put your mates on it and tell them not, under any circumstances, to pull the handle. Of course then you would pull it. Lots of laughs! Even the girls liked to come into the bedroom to see the Ejector seat! Top Gun era, so they all new what it was... I remember seeing the Tornado simulator and wanting it badly, but I think I couldn't afford it, or it was out of specs for my system. That has been the story of my simming life untill I bought DCS A10C, after a couple of goes I googled. "Gaming laptop", bought one, and have never looked back since (all of 6 weeks ago!) Thanks for sharing people, have brought back many happy memories!

Already posted this but maybe in the wrong place. I put dynamic weather into a mission; I have the sound effect of heavy rain when the weather is snowstorm (before takeoff cockpit open or closed) I still have the sound of the rain when above the cloud layer.

I posted one in the weather sound effects thread just up the page, its not really a mission but covers my attempts at aerial refuelling, slightly ropey ILS landing and some georgeous weather effects. I was saying yesterady that it might be good to have a tracks library where people could post lessons or just stuff they though was interesting or useful. Its interesting to see how others fly as well

Alright then, only fair I spose... I decided to land on the into wind runway in the end, according to the tower anyways. my attempt at Xwind landing.trk

I have been simming on and off all of my life, since we first got an acorn electron, when I was about 4 I think. Aunty took me to the computer game section, and there was a game called "Bandits at 3oclock" the cover showed a scene of heros flying biplanes over flanders, and I thought that was what the game would be like. Very excited. I must say I was a bit dissapointed with the game, but stuck with it. (actually, Rise of Flight was pretty much what I was expecting) Next was (also on the Acorn Electron), called something like "Terror on the flight deck" Another extremely dramatic front cover with 3 steely eyed flight deck crew wrestling with the controls through a thunderstorm. I think they might have had an engine failure as well. Basically you had to take off a 737 then you would get a blue screen, like a radar display, and would have to fly a procedure. If you were good, and I was VERY good after I found that my dad couldnt do it, and spent like a year practicing secretly and then amazed him, anyway if you were VERY good, because it was hard, especially if you were like 6, then the blue screen would give way to a view of a runway and PAPIs. through the remainder of the approach if anything went out of spec, you were back to the blue screen (or death Im not sure). Actually that sim was kind of amazing. quite realistic in some ways like the procedure you had to fly. and speed control on the ILS. Then I had an Spectrum 48k. There was a BRILLIANT simulator for an F4 phantom. very small runway, quite accurate flight dynamics as I remember. The sound was really cool, it had a whistling whining jet noise. I used to do cross countrys and red arrows aerobatic displays. the graphics consisted of a white line for the horizon and either an enemy plane (a delta shape) or a runway. SPent hundreds of hours on that. Fighter Bomber; Amazing graphics. slightly disspointing realism. still years of my life wasted on that. The Spectrum becoming red hot on my la untill one day just went pop. Next highlights were Flight of The Intruder, Chuck Yeagers Flight Sim, a break through uni, then Falcon 4. Lost a girlfriend because of that- too distracted apparently. All the rest, I still fly so dont count. I think with DCS A-10C and Rise of Flight, I am in flight sim nirvana. Anybody else want to share there happy memories?

I agree wholeheartedly. I remember day dreaming about a sim like this when I was little, with a 3d cockpit and moving map display, and outside scenery that looked like the real world. I can guarantee that I will buy every aircraft in the series, and every other theater of operations that is realeased, as long as the quality and realism continues as it is. I have shown youtube clips of this sim to several people at work, who have never been interested in flying or simulation before. They all went away asking, where they could get it, would they be able to fly it, would there computers be able to run it. So although the market may seem small Im sure there is great potential, I think with the realism as it is we are getting into the realms of virtual reality now. I wonder if all the people who like to drive tanks and ships and submarines etc would like in on the action. I would love to go tank busting against them....

Last night I tried to set the mission up how I originally had it, but couldnt replicate the extreme turbulence that it had. I am starting to think that I might have misinterpreted the wind arrows in the mission editor, and it was in fact set for quite strong. However the wind did definately appear a lot stronger and a lot more turbulent that would seem reasoneable for 3m/s wind. I tried the cross wind landing mission, linked earlier in the thread. One thing I noticed is the tower reports 2m/s from 130, and clears you to land on runway 30, so that doesnt help.. Again the wind seems stronger and more turbulent than I would like for such a low reported wind. I love the concept of dynamic weather though, and that there is turbulence and windshear- Brilliant! I just think it might need to be toned down a bit at low level or that there might be a mismatch between what the weather briefing / tower is telling us and what is actually created. I got it down ok with only 1 burst, but not that proud of my attempts so not desperate to post a track!

I always turn that off. Go to the up front control panel, having first selected CDU on one of the MFCDs. Find the key which has the Function "FPM" (so press FUNC then 5). The Flight Plan Menu page will appear on the CDU. You can press OSB next to the flight plan, I think its OSB20, and it will change from Auto to Manual.

A little to add to this, I am still getting the rain sound effects once above the clouds. Track attached. Also, in this mission I modified it by selecting Dynamic weather. However what I got was a fantastic overcast, snow etc. I thought you couldnt get this weather from Dynamic though? It looks to me like although I selected dynamic weather, the weather in the simulation that occurred was actually the manually edited standard weather from my previous flight. I definately saved it with the dynamic weather. I could attach the mission file, but it is 90% someone elses work that I have slightly modified for my own training purposes, so it seems wrong to do that. AR ILS SNOW.trk

A really small thing but probably easy to fix, If you set the weather to snowstorm, the sound effect is of rain. Also experimenting with the wind settings, I see that gusts of wind will move the aircraft on the ground. Thats really good, but it would be great if there was a sound efffect for that as well, not sure how hard that might be to do. All just adds to the immersion (not that there is much of a shortage though!)

woops yeah sorry, ALT mode is good for an orbit, whereas the PATH mode will maintain a nice descent or climb etc, at least untill you run out of altitude or speed that is.

Capt Ball Nice post! I know how expensive flying instuction is when we start getting into the realms of twin engine and jet aircraft. That was gold dust!Thankyou for taking the time to provide such comprehensive and good advice advice here on the forum!

EtherealN Just to say thanks for your attention and help on this topic! Cheers
-
Well yours could have, if you hadnt used the yellow and black door handle! Pity you cant get out another way....but thats a different thread... So what was the wind supposed to be? Do you think there might be a little adjustment necassary?
-
jv44bubi I think that was very well described! I think you might be a flying instructor in RL? Cheers
-
Hi EtherealN, Well you know what they say, any landing you can walk away from is a good one! I was definately not able to walk after my landing! But that looks very similar to the experience I had, if anything slightly less turbulent, but maybe you just handled it better. What I dont know from watching the track is what the wind was supposed to be. In RL, I would imagine that was a 35kt+ crosswind, and very gusty at that. Which I'm sure would be out of specs for most aircraft. Looking forward to having a go myself! Cheers

Yeah I think it can be. I always remember ATC camp to RAF Laarbruch in about 1992. It was 50C then a few days. Us cadets were dropping like flies on parade with our woolly berets on. Unless my memory has failed me again. Im sure it was though!

I just discovered how to play back tracks! Very cool! So Im now wondering if there is a Tracks Library somewhere, classic tracks, educational tracks, bug tracks etc? Would help pass the time at work; I can watch these discretly without drawing too much fire. If I get the joystick and Track IR out I will probably get busted. BTW I am not advocating idle ness at work and its not that I am lazy, its just that there is literally nothing for me to do at the moment...Makes up for all the times when I am doing 3 jobs at the same time!

Got the tracks working - Thats a great system!

Track please EtherealN... Dont be shy!
