Hi Jim, thats good to hear. I am still at work so havent been able to try yet (12 hour shifts..) but I also saw some first person views from youtube since I posted some a bit more aware now about what is currently possible. Seems like a small step to have a ladder exit / entry rather than the bang seat. Hope it gets implemented one day..

Yes Power 5, thats sort of what I mean. with the engines off and the cockpit open you press a button and the pilot will clamber out. Then leave you at the foot of the stairs able to walk around. I have seen in youtube now several videos where people are already walking about and driving in small jeeps. So all we need is a way to get out of the plane (and back in) without having to pull the handle. Then I saw a video by some Germans who were driving around doing JTAC stuff. How cool is that! That is really then becoming a digital battlefield. How about you can get out of your A-10, drive across the airfield, get into your KA50? (or your F16 .....if that is the next aircraft...). Or how about you can get out of the plane, walk over to the start of the runway and wave to your online buddies as they set off on their mission? ED programmers PLEASE someone make a little "getting in and out of the parked aeroplane" script (or whatever its called). You could probably do it in 5 mins......

In my experience with these "other" flights, you dont get to tell them what to do, you just tell them to join the fight, and they say leaving the station, and they go about doing there business. Certainly in one of the campaigns, the one where you take off from Batumi, at some points you have several other flights; CAP, SEAD etc. If you see a MiG painting you, call the CAP. The CAP will say leaving the station or something, next thing you know MiG is dead. Same with SEAD (for SAMS) etc. At least thats how I thought it was working.

OK, Cool that some of the functionality is kind of their already, not tried any of that yet. Will give it a go later when Im not "working". Anyway I was thinking more along the lines of being able to get out of the plane without having to eject? I think it would add a LOT to the start and end of the mission "immersion factor". Can you tell I'm someone likes to ramp start every time? And full shutdown. Another thing, I imagine the eject walk-around functionality is probably not in the first person view (because, from memory when you eject you see the pilot). This thread is DEFINATELY only about doing it in the first person view, none of that arcade stuff. I suppose I should check before posting that but I cant because Im at stupid work. Cheers!

coooool love this sort of thing wish I could get on MP to give it a go. Will try SP instead

Hi, I think it would be really cool, and add to the immersion, if the pilot could get out and walk around a bit -on the gound I mean! After a mission you could press a button and the pilot would stand up on the seat and climb down the little ladder. Then you could use the arrow keys to stroll around and look at some of the damage, Maybe even climb into a new plane rather than have the ground crew repair it in 5 minutes. Before the mission you could walk up to the plane and get a feel for the size of it. I dont know why, but I always think "the walk" is a big part of the flight. Seeing the aeroplane as you walk up to it kind of gives you a feeling of the scale of the thing you are about to do. I dont know much about programming (try anything about progamming!) but it seems to me that this should be an easy thing to do and would add a dimension to the simulator which I think would be kind of unique, at least Ive never seen it before. Anwyway there is lots of more important things to fix first, but maybe it could be considered? Then again maybe this is just some sort of strange perversion that I have that doesnt affect other simmers !?

Thought from a noob...Trim is your friend
bluepilot76 replied to cichlidfan's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Has something been changed in the rudder trim? Recently, shortly after take off the nose of the A-10 swings 10 degrees or so to the side. "Bit of a cross wind" I think, but then it seemed to be on the same side on the reciprocal heading. I thought maybe my stores were causing it so tried a little bit of rudder trim with the knob on the left. although apparently curing the yaw (flight vector now in middle of hud), it created a continual change in heading. as if the plane was turning very slowly around its Z axis. I havent seen a plane where you can actually do a flat turn like that since Fighter Bomber on my Atari 512. I was only 6 or something then, but I knew that wasnt right. Anyway I'm sure the A-10 didnt do that in the previous release. It seems wrong to me now. -

I have never flown an A-10 in real life, but even in a Cessna, if the trim is a bit wrong and you are trying to hold an attitude, you will know about it. It takes quite a lot of strength. If going around, you better be ready because it can take all your strength if you havent got the trim right. I think it was pretty much the first thing I was introduced to on my first flying lesson. Years of flying sims prior to that hadnt really prepared me for how important it was. Mind you those sims werent very good in those days. -
Which campaign do people prefer?
bluepilot76 replied to ScEBlack1's topic in User Created Missions General
I have been to the end of that campaign and was told it was a success. Dont want to spoil it for anyone so wont give too much away, but as in RL, you dont seem to have to kill everything. Even doing multiple trips would be hard to get them all. Anyway when you get back from your missions other hogs and apaches are setting off, so you just need to remember that you are a small cog in a big engine, plenty to go around, you cant have all the glory.... Something like that anyway. It is a great campaign although I miss the menacing clouds and HAS starts. It seems really easy now. -
Changing Campaign Payloads - Cheating?

Garfieldo, thanks for the info, I guess it wont be long untill I get to try it out! -
Changing Campaign Payloads - Cheating?
bluepilot76 replied to 636_Castle's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yes! you might have to tell me how to swap the screens around because one of them is often the first thing to go. I will see if I can find it in the manual first. Airspeed indicator is always knackkered too. I flew the whole way back last night and didnt notice untill coming in for landing anyway. -
Changing Campaign Payloads - Cheating?
bluepilot76 replied to 636_Castle's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Well thanks to all that design and share missions. I havent tried that myself, but in the case where the mission designers are unable to restrict loadouts, I would have though the answer was something along the lines of; make the Hog pilot use up all his mavs say on heaps of SAMS and ZEUS and radars but still have plenty of targets that he might take on with whatever else he has onboard. If its a 10min transit back to base, Im not going untill I have spent everything I have got or the plane is so damaged as its touch and go whether I will make it back at all. Of course in RL things would be a little different. -
Changing Campaign Payloads - Cheating?
bluepilot76 replied to 636_Castle's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Well I am dissapointed. Having succeeded in Devils Cross 1st mission eventually, having figured out how to work the TGP and get some mavericks in, to find out I have been "cheating". As far as I was concerned, there was a choice to change the loadout. (perhaps I didnt read the mission briefing carefully enough?) but I had the option to change the loadout so I took it. It seemed insane to tackle that battlefield any other way. This is when there was clouds, not the easy place it is now, so staying high and pickling the odd bomb down from 20k was not an option. My first few blundering attempts, flying through the battlefield whils heads down trying to find things on the TGP, all came to a sticky end when about a hundred machine guns opened up from half the russian army in there well camoflaged tanks and things that I had just flown right over the top of. Trying to pickle a couple of bombs in from there was suicide. And my piddly gun wasnt much use either. So yes, I am dissapointed to find out that I hadnt won the war through initiative (changing out for some decent missiles) but by cheating. Anyway surely if the USAAF can have a squadron of A-10Cs anywhere in the world they can keep them stocked up with a few mavericks and pods. Half of transport commands C-17s were in the airfield next door. Surely some of them would have thought to bring in a few TGPs and Mavs whilst brinking the troops there KFCs and Macky Ds?? -
Yes thanks 636_Castle. Sounds like a good (and easy?) thing to fix for in next patch.
-
Oh OK great thanks for the clear and quick reply. I look forward to trying it, it takes ages to type in the waypoint manually!

Hi Folks, sorry if I have missed something obvious. I know its been done a hundred times already. I would have thought the new patch would solve the net reset bug which stops the JTAC getting the data to me, but for me I never really had a problem with this in the past and now it seems that I do. Thing is, when me and wingman take off we are both on the same net. I know this because his plane is blue (TAD) whereas all other friendlies are green. If i change my setting to something else he becomes green, meaning I am no longer on his net. So it doesnt seem logical to me to change my net settings. Anyway most of the time we are Hawg 1-1 on the radio, and thats what it says on my net setting. What should I change it too? the numbers from the briefing? the numbers in my radiocall? Is it still broken?

Well thanks to all who helped, I first of all tried what hassata said, but although my keyboard commands worked it didnt remember anything for my joystick. So I deleted the whole folder and restarted the sim to recreate the folder, then I was about to start inputting from scratch just to be on the safe side, but wanted to fly, so I just copied the old config folder in. all my settings were back. then I tried a different campaign, I also decided to tuurn up some settings; turned on the mirrors and with 512k monitors, although turned down the water, and went for a fly. Cant say it was far off perfect really. Loved it. Did two missions, got a British Air medal and brought back two thouroughly holed but flyable A-10s. My AI wingman was brilliant two, probably blew more stuff up than me. Great sim. Love it!

Hi hassata, thanks very much for that! I will give it a go and hopefully everything runs smoothly!

Hi All, I flew the 1st mission in Devils Cross (1107). When I eventually returned to base, I was dissapointed to see some F15s hadnt reached the runway because they had met a bunch of German Tornados at a cross roads in the taxiways. No one was going anywhere. Migs were potentially having a field day. Might be a good thing to fix the ground control at Vaziani? Its still good though!

Hi Hasata, I think I can find the .lua that I saved my input setting as, in the DCS Warthog folder, but there are also some likely candidates in the Config. folder. What I meant to ask really is if I copy, say, the config folder and that .lua into my new installation, is there a chance that it can negatively affect the new installation. Actually I did already patch the simulation without doing the full process, just to see if there was an obvious boost. To be honest I dont think there is a boost, although its hard to tell because they have changed the 1st mission of Devils Cross which is my test. I dont have any major stutters but lots of microstutters, otherwise fps is good and it seemed stable, however I didnt notice any real boost over my 1106 installation. So thats why I was going to do the whole process from fresh, and was hoping for a shortcut to remapping all my keys again.

Hi All. I want to do the upgrade from 1106 to 1107. If I delete that folder in /Users/(name)/Saved Games/ wont I lose my joystick / key settings? Is there some file in there I can save so I dont have to reset them all again? Its just that Ive done it a few times now and it always takes ages to put everything back, so many hatswtiches and china boats and what have you. Alternatively, are all you that are having the big improvements primarily downloading the new "from scratch" installer? I would do that normally but I am offshore and cant use that much broadband. It took the whole day to get the 1107 patch as it was. And everyone was like, "whats wrong with the internet today?"
