hold one of the bottom buttons down until the list comes up then select the TAD and put it where you want it.

Yeah that works, but first move the cursor away from a selectable feature, otherwise it doesnt look like its working, but it is..

Im not sure I am following this thread, but am going to stick my 2p in and see what happens!. Runway headings are magnetic headings, rounded to the nearest 10degs and with the last 0 knocked off. Your compass in the aircraft is also giving magnetic headings. If your magnetic heading is 310 degrees, and you are pointing towards runway 31, you will have it in line in front of you. If your magnetic heading is 310 degrees but you are not pointing towards the runway, you will pass the runway by. Parallel to it. Assuming no wind of course. Tacans, VORs, ILS, are all magnetic headings. Your true heading would depend on magnetic variation and compass deviation. a true heading of 315 would be the same in Mexico as it is in Kiruna. it is 315 degrees clockwise from the local line of longitude.

Are you sure thats not the offset they are giving you ie IP BANKS 30012 (12 miles at 300 degs from IP Banks)

Update to 1.1.0.8 or wait for 1.1.0.9?
bluepilot76 replied to SinandGrin's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I say get it (1108 ) You dont know how long it will be before 1109 (despite the recent announcement, there could be hold ups) Since 1109 is a fast patch maybe there wont be a whole installer anyway, you might need 1108 to patch up from. For me 1108 runs nice, despite the trees, its worth it because so many annoying bugs have been fixed. And the cockpit shadows are really good. -
Yeah thats the one...Thanks
-
I swear I just read an Official update by Wags that there was to be a fast patch 1.1.0.9 to fix the tree shadows. Now I cant find it.. No discussions on here about it? Have I missed it or is everyone so busy enjoying 1.1.0.8. that they havent noticed? looking forward to that, whilst still enjoying the 1.1.0.8 changes too. Happy days in simworld!

Cool: a bit like "DECLARE!" in Falcon 4. Very useful! Thanks Nate!

In some of the campaigns the battlefield is changing fast, for example the 2nd or 3rd mission on the first campaign, the tanks are storming across the battlefield. the initial JTAC red triangle was rapidly obsolete. Without logging out of the JTAC with the "end of vul" call, is there a way to get updates from the JTAC?

Hi GGTharos, ok thanks for that. I was a bit confused because when you startup, the gyros align on HARS mode, before selecting EGI. I thought my EGI was damaged (it probably was, most of the caution lights were on) and thought if I went back to HARS I might get the gyros back but it didnt work. I just read somewhere about a HARS emergency alignment or something so maybe I need to do that, or maybe my gyro was damaged. WHatever, Im off to do some reading.

Hi I got some damage where the HUD IAS and ALT were knockked out (CADC damage?) anyway my mechanical ASI was still functioning, and my mechanical altimeter was ok once I set it PNEU. Is there a backup method of getting this info onto the HUD? I went into the maintenance menu and was able to get up groundspeed, but that wasnt really what I wanted. I also set hud altitude info to radar with the switch, I didnt notice this info coming up either, but was perhaps distracted as on the approach by the time I was in radalt range.. Also if you go from EGI to HARS you lose the ADI and HUD ladder. I would have thought the ADI could operate without EGI, hasnt it got an internal gyroscope? Is there a way of getting it operational without EGI? I probably need to read more, or get hit less.

nedd an advice on a new stick
bluepilot76 replied to SilentBob's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
buttons on both sides are so left and right handed people can use it. I only use those on the stick and the LHS and have hardly any HOTAS functions missing off the stick. Feels bulletproof. Oh and its got rudder, so is actually BETTER than the warthog lol. History is logitech and saitek. Now THOSE were flimsy plasticky breakeable rubbish! -

Thrustmaster T16000m, perfect for DCS A10C and about £40. Hall ball technology or whatever its called..same tech as much more expensive sibling. plenty buttons all over. Action is first class. Heavy and smooth, precise. Annoying green light. -
I have no problem with that. There is image somewhere on the net of a Intruder or Prowler landing on a carrier sans nose cone. Just be a bit extra drag. Prob fod damaged engines? Im not into the DCS A10c flying around with one wing though.

AlphaOneSix, Im really glad you explained that! inHg have always been a mystery to me! -
Converting QFE to QNH Rule of Thumb
bluepilot76 replied to bluepilot76's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hi Vincent, I believe that mb are hPa are effectively interchangeable, sorry I should have written hPa but I am used to thinking mb. You are alse right that in the lower levels of the atmosphere, 1mb is actually 27 feet, but it is a rule of thumb, pilots use 30 because it is easier to calculate. Rules of Thumb are widespread in aviation, they do not provide the exact answer but provide you with an answer that is accurate enough, quickly. Chances are you cant fly to the nearest foot anyway. If you really want to get precise you also have to take into account the temperature of the air, it all gets messy very quickly... meanwhile your plane is busting russian airspace. Its a trade off, how accurate do you need to be, versus keeping on top of all the other things that are happening as your aircraft is speeding around. If pilots were that fussy about exact numbers they probably wouldnt be pilots, maybe accountants lol. EDITED TO ADD. Hi Vincent on re-reading your post it occurs to me that perhaps you are getting inches of mercury confused with hPa? Inches of mercury (used in the USA) are writted XX.XX for example 29.92in is standard pressure setting, which in mb( or hPa) is 1013. I dont know how you convert inches of mercury into height. However, I think you will find that in DCS A10C, the tower is providing air pressure information in mb (hPa). -
Converting QFE to QNH Rule of Thumb
bluepilot76 replied to bluepilot76's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yes the problem arises when you are returning from a mission, in IMC, and the air pressure has changed. The ATC provides you with QFE. If you WANT to use QNH then you need to know how to figure it out. Dividing one number by 30 is not really complicated maths either? Pilots do little sums like that all the time, its all part of the simulation to me. -
Converting QFE to QNH Rule of Thumb
bluepilot76 replied to bluepilot76's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
The RAF uses it in the UK when giving the airfield information, if several bases are close together they provide a "clutch QFE" which is a single QFE used at all the bases. I suppose for a lot of the bases QNH are not that relevent as they probably depart straight onto a radar altimeter height. At my local airfield, you tend to be given QFE if your flying something small and QNH if your flying commercial. Even though many pilots (myself included) would prefer the QNH, and try to instigate QNH when reporting in with the relevent airfield information, the controllers just start giving QFEs. Not a big deal though as my airfield is only 30feet off sea level.. We like to use as many different measurement systems as possible in the UK, keeps you on your toes! -
I just have to mention Realair TurbineDuke! Get it, its brilliant! unless you are truly not interested in light aircraft (although it is a twin). I have the J41 from PMDG too, seems really good, but I got so distracted by the Duke that I havent been able to sit down and get to grips with J41 yet. The instruments are so smooth in the Realair that it is REALLY good IFR practice, and the flight model is verygood, you can feel the weight of the aircraft, the balance between control trimming etc all seems spot on. Almost worth putting up with FSX for!

Hi Guys, thanks for your help! Definately going to check out those programs. If its anything cool I will post the video!

I feared as much. Maybe I can capture a video or something. This Fraps thing I hear about sometimes...

Hi sorry if this is in the manual, I have no access to it at the moment. Tried search too! Is it possible to edit a track? I flew for about 1 hour and whilst heads down in a turn at altitude was suddently blown up. According to my debrief it was a midair collision. I would like to ananlyse the crash a bit but dont want to play through such a long track repeatedly so I was hoping I could edit it to only see the last couple of minutes? Can it be done??

We have to do it like this for the flaps on the particular C172 I fly: hold flap toggle down, say "oneandtwoand" then release the toggle. thats 20 degs. Prob have a glance out the window to check it looks about right. You can do the same thing, I think the brakes only open at one rate, so get an idea for how long it takes to open 40%, then you wont have to look outside at a critical moment. Its not going to be that important that you get it exactly right though.

I bought it boxed out the shop recently, all installation etc worked perfectly. Sorry thats not much help, but maybe rather than giving your addons away you could buy the cheapest boxed version of FSX you can find just to get up and running. Since you have bought PMDG you probably appreciate a good model so you will not be interested in any of the FSX stock stuff anyway. I have been very pleased with the PMDG and Realair stuff I have bought, and some of the scenery (western / and northern isles), those addons alone have luckily made it worthwhile upgrading to FSX. If they could run on FS2004 I would advise you to go back to FS2004 before you waste any more money on FSX. I am amazed by how buggy and half arsed the whole thing seems, very dissapointing!

Hi Ray, I use TIR5 too, annoyingly just after unpausing at the start the view zooms out a bit, I always zoom in a bit until the HUD Is comfortable to read. You might need to shuffle around a bit so that it doesn't get hidden by bits of the HUD framework. It is the slow zoom buttons you need to use. Or I think you can press num pad enter for a the default zoom which is quite good I have noticed that if I lean right over you can tell that the HUD symbology is not actually on the HUD glass, I guess some things r impractical to simulate. I thought the cockpit felt odd to begin with, I was always mssing with the zoom, and moving my head around, after a while it feels totally natural though.
